Rams fans, me included, have been dunking on Jimmy G for years for his inability to get it done in the big moments. I can’t imagine that Mcsnead would intentionally choose him to takeover a playoff and maybe SB ready team.

Takes two to agree to a deal. He wouldn't commit here of Stafford keeps playing and he certainly doesn't know what the Rams may do. So a 1 year deal made sense for him.
He is not a long term answer but he could be a Plan B bridge until next starter is in place. I don’t think they will reach or settle for QB in the draft next year but will have their 2 or 3 targets on their radar.

You have no idea what the negotiations were, but sure how I would assume both sides have no problem with going a year at a time right now. Hell they are essentially doing that with Stafford.
Exactly why would Jimmy sign a longer deal? If Stafford got hurt and he balled out, he’s going to command more than his current salary. And if you are the Rams, there is no need to commit to him longer than this year. What if Stetson has made a huge leap and it’s a certified backup QB? You could get him for 1/5th of the price of Jimmy G. Makes way too much sense for both sides to take it a year at a time.
He has played in multiple games even started 2 last year.
Yeah and those were bad teams. And he didn’t exactly jump off the screen with his performances. They were fine but he’s got a really long ways to go. Because when he got in the game vs great teams (ie Georgia), he was not good. And they got him out of there in a hurry.
