I was trying to put Stafford’s situation into some sort of meaningful context. I came to the conclusion that while I think he’s exceptional and will only get better; the level of competition Stafford has known with the Lions is not up to par with what the NFC West is currently. He will evolve with our divisional competition.

Stafford is not the most consistently accurate thrower. He’s more of a power thrower than an anticipation touch thrower. Sort of in the Brett Favre mold in my opinion.

I think several of his off throws thus far through 5 games can be attributed to not being on the same page as the WR. This is can be improved and should as the season goes on. He’s still new to the system and WR’s.

Ultimately his value will be determined come playoffs. We need to see the good Stafford and not the inconsistent Stafford then.

Personally, no, if he has a little bit of the yips that usually takes less time to correct than a physical injury, especially to the throwing hand.

I think it's a combination of both, and he'll get there as he gets more and more settled in, as long as he stays healthy.

Rams also need someone with some balls to go up into the booth to tell McVay when he's being an idiot.

Stafford has been awesome. I love the way he moves in the pocket. Quick with reads.

@TexasRam made a good comparison to Favre, IMO. He has touch, but that’s not his bread and butter.

I wish I had all-22. Some of the replay angles we get show how complex the time and space for ball placement. Some of Stafford’s misses appear to be misreading that, which IMO comes with practice and time together.

People will slowly realize that Stafford will make the wtf type decisions making you question his status of a 12 year vet. But that's just who he is, we just gotta hope that doesn't happen come playoffs.

I call a crook of Which's brew.

Brett Farve would have never under threw at least 3 for sure wide open TD’s.I’ll say I was a little nervous against the Hags.I got settle & watch live.Wanted that Amazon experience of the game.Add I did think about Goff & Wolford for a few moments today while watching. Then Geno came in & thought about Kyler Murray,Goff & Wolford.Wonder as well about what the game would have been like with Russell Wilson still in.

The part about Stafford being all right ,I have to agree. His changing of his taped finger helped.

I’m not going to compare Stafford with Jared Goff or Wolford let a lone Brett Farve.
Once again Brett Farve if your comparing him I’d say they both played a lot of years in The NFC Central. They even played a few games against each other.

I replayed the last 3rd & out on a long pass to Higbee? to the right.
On the left was D.Jackson & Cooper Kupp.He didn’t get a quick read on that play.He stayed & forced a pass on the right side. Was interesting to see how those routed were run by #1 & #10.

The funny thing he actually played better and hit his stride after the injury.

Started out inconsistent but ended up at almost 10 YPA and only one turnover, I'll take that any day.

Have to admit there was a couple bad calls he made.THE First 15 plays are scripted.I’m not sure he stays true. Higbee on the pass to the left of the Endzone needed to be thrown somewhere else.

I kind of hate threads like this because to defend what we like about Stafford, means that you have to contrast his abilities to Jared. They both had positives and negatives, but I am 10 times more confident about how far Stafford can take us than where Goff could/can from here on out. Threads like this really boil down to "We never should have gotten rid of Jared because I liked him."....and then back fill other arguments when questioned.

Yes, Jared was the QB when we went to a Super Bowl, but there were 52 other players involved with that (plus coaching, training, etc...). At the QB position, I believe Stafford gives more to the winning effort that Goff could, but he still requires the efforts of the other 52 to take us there and win it. So with every interception or bad play we'll hear from the questioners of the trade deal, but it all disappears when Stafford has a killer game. Just like the questioners of Stafford in the media question Stafford in the big games. They move the goal posts when he beats a Tampa Bay because that goes against the narrative, but then pounce on him when he has a bad day like vs the Cardinals. We won't hear about Jared bad plays for the Lions this year because most attribute the bigger part of those to the team, or game situations etc.... but we also know Jared has his own flaws and those won't be emphasized in the media because it's sexier to rail against Stafford so their their predictions of his failure are fulfilled. I'm not saying everyone critical of Stafford is like this, but some are.

Not really.

I don't want Stafford's throwing hand hurt, as that would be disastrous for this team. And you'd always be worrying if the injury is lingering, etc.

It would, however, provide some relief in terms of providing a reasonable explanation for all of his wide open misses and red zone turnover last night (which, BTW, were just as bad if not worse than anything Goff put on display). In that respect, I suppose that an injury would offer a silver lining of sorts, but I think you have to be hoping he was/is healthy.
I think The Rams are built the right way. First I think Matthew Stafford is an excellent QB.I don’t believe The Rams can’t win a SuperBowl without him.

Wolford is an excellent backup.Les Snead talked him up on his last interview. They had to ask Wolford? Came out of the blue.

Wolford was doing very well in training camp. His football & the way he gets the ball out is exceptional. He really has worked hard with his foot workHe was not seen in the preseason for actually a couple reasons.Perkins just needs to keep being developed as well to get to a higher level.

My point is this offense (Rams) & with Wolford at QB would run well imo.

Maybe the injury will help him hit the wide open reciever in stride?

Nice mumbers, nice record, but to those who dissect every movehe makes- its a mixed bag.
I accept everything Stafford is because he gives us the best chance to win. The best chance since Warner, in my opinion.

He didn’t play a lick in the pre-season.

Expect him to drill it down with Woods, Kupp, Jackson, Higbee and VJ.

Barring injury, and maybe in spite of, I see Stafford getting better and better as the season progresses.

One thing I noticed, he was fine with the intermediate throws over the middle. The sideline throws were where the problem was. Once he started looking for Woods over the middle they were moving the ball. I think he adjusted better in the second half. The TD to Higbee wasn't over the middle and it was on target. Maybe he figured out how the change his grip to accommodate his injury?

Nailed it. I am concerned with some of the throws he is missing, but I have no doubt that he is and will be the better QB in this system.... Especially once he settles into it.

Also, you are 1000% correct about the few here that will never embrace him because he is not Jared. It's sad.

I disagree with this. He was always in the NFC and each year you play and entire division and 1 team from the other two. The Vikings and the Bears had some good defenses, and he had to play his best against Rodgers twice. Plus, he had to play outside in the COLD.

Plus, it's too early to come to that conclusion. Arizona is good this year for the first time in a while, and Seattle has a horrible defense. The level of competition he faced this week shouldn't be something he's not used to.

Perhaps. You make a good point. I considered that line of thought before I posted. However, I’m not sure many could say they are many ready to play at the level our division commands. I absolutely love the Stafford trade. I’m all in on him. I’m not trying to make excuses for Stafford as none are needed. He’s great! But he’s coming from a losing culture in Detroit and landing with a winning culture here in LA. Adjustments have to be made. Hopefully his finger injury improves. I think that the difference is pretty night and day. I fully expect him to handle it very well, he just needs some time with us. Just my opinion, thanks for yours, our beloved guru of boobs (meant as a sincere compliment).

Stafford's "shaky" start has him on pace for about 5K yards and 40TDs.
He needs to clean some stuff up, but is a hell of an upgrade.
My only problem with his Thursday performance was the RIDICULOUS interception. That was just an idiotic play. Period. Other than that?? Zero issues with him. Zero.

I’ve been very happy with him, my only knock is I’d like to see a little more touch getting more air on quick medium outs over the LBs head, we’re in good hands with Stafford
