I kind of hate threads like this because to defend what we like about Stafford, means that you have to contrast his abilities to Jared. They both had positives and negatives, but I am 10 times more confident about how far Stafford can take us than where Goff could/can from here on out. Threads like this really boil down to "We never should have gotten rid of Jared because I liked him."....and then back fill other arguments when questioned.
Yes, Jared was the QB when we went to a Super Bowl, but there were 52 other players involved with that (plus coaching, training, etc...). At the QB position, I believe Stafford gives more to the winning effort that Goff could, but he still requires the efforts of the other 52 to take us there and win it. So with every interception or bad play we'll hear from the questioners of the trade deal, but it all disappears when Stafford has a killer game. Just like the questioners of Stafford in the media question Stafford in the big games. They move the goal posts when he beats a Tampa Bay because that goes against the narrative, but then pounce on him when he has a bad day like vs the Cardinals. We won't hear about Jared bad plays for the Lions this year because most attribute the bigger part of those to the team, or game situations etc.... but we also know Jared has his own flaws and those won't be emphasized in the media because it's sexier to rail against Stafford so their their predictions of his failure are fulfilled. I'm not saying everyone critical of Stafford is like this, but some are.
