Last week he looked bad, almost Goffesque and I was really worried. I presumed it must be something other than he forgot how to play football.

Watching last nights game I had a sinking feeling when he missed a couple of easy throws that would have kept drives going.

You guys may have known he had finger issues, but other than the pre-season knock I'd not heard anything.

So when the announcers mentioned it and they focussed on the tape I was actually relieved.

Now, if that injury lingers for weeks on end that relief will turn into vomit-inducing anxiety, but until then I'll remain happy he got as a crucial win.

But he said the injury happened during this game...
And he mostly got better as the game went along.

You'd think he had something going on with the few weird throws the last couple of weeks.. but I think they were just bad throws. The interception in the endzone was just a bad throw, the kind Goff made all-too often.

Yeah the finger injury, that he had to pop back in, happened last night.

Not really.

I don't want Stafford's throwing hand hurt, as that would be disastrous for this team. And you'd always be worrying if the injury is lingering, etc.

It would, however, provide some relief in terms of providing a reasonable explanation for all of his wide open misses and red zone turnover last night (which, BTW, were just as bad if not worse than anything Goff put on display). In that respect, I suppose that an injury would offer a silver lining of sorts, but I think you have to be hoping he was/is healthy.

He hasn’t been great the last 2 weeks. He is streaky - always has been. Streaky means that there will be some rough spots. We just need to hope that those rough spots dont come in the playoffs and that when they do, we can run the ball and play good D to pick him up.

That throw really bothered me since it is not what you'd expect from a guy with his experience/pedigree.

Listening to him postgame though, and realizing the dude that made that incredible play played against him in practice a million times, I am confident he will throw the ball 15 rows into the stands until the end of his career. We won't see that again.

The being a bit "off" in the midrange, I believe, was one of the comments I heard right after the trade and was the one checkmark that went into the Goff column of the pro/con list. It may be something we'll just have to get used to. Once he dials in, he gives us every chance in the world to win the game.

I think he said it's happened before, which leads me to believe it's been an issue this season. Which show that the last two weeks it must have been bothering him. TBH a dislocated finger will always be an issue, I've dislocated my middle finger multiple times in the last 12 years training Jujitsu and it occasionally pops back out and when it does it's sore for about a good week. Having team doctors and trainers I assume it will be sore for a only a couple days. Main thing is they have to strengthen the muscle in that finger in order for it to hold up which takes time. Good thing It's a mini bye.

I don't expect a player to be 100% honest with revealing how bad a minor injury is. But I will say, when the reporter asked how much it bothered him during the game, and his reply was "not at all", My initial thought was "he better be lying". Some of those throws were only excusable if caused by injury from a qb of his caliber. We didn't trade away what we did for that type of play.

He's been making some concerning throws the last two weeks. That INT last night was as bad as any I have seen. Just inexcusable. Also missed some wide open targets and even some of the completions were our WRs bailing him out. Hopefully he gets better as the season rolls on and he gets more timing with his guys.

I really think that especially early... after having so much positive attention sent his way after the relative anonymity in Detroit, that he feels responsible to do right by all that attention and gets a bit overhyped and pushes.

When he settles down, he's not just money, he's a billionaire's bank account.

The trick is settling down. I think as the season goes on that we'll see him really get into a groove and that will make the Rams a hella dangerous team

He didn’t play a lick in the pre-season.

Expect him to drill it down with Woods, Kupp, Jackson, Higbee and VJ.

Barring injury, and maybe in spite of, I see Stafford getting better and better as the season progresses.

I don't think the injury was all that much a part of how he played tbh. He's a tough dude. He just wasn't on point I suspect he's too geeked up. It's weird because I was afraid he might start slow and we'd have to listen to a bunch of BS on top of what we already had going on. But then he starts kind of fast only to hit those bumps of late.

Thing is statistically he's 6th overall in passer rating. Offensive stats look pretty damn good overall too. The five QBs in front of him and himself are within six points too, so he's right there with that top group that starts with Wilson and Mahomes.

And does anyone think what he's done so far is his best ball in this offense? I can think of a few individuals after reading their posts but while anything is possible I'd say that's very unlikely. In fact I expect he's going to have a great statistical season, question is whether things are good enough at the team level (Defense, balance, teams, etc) for him to get the hardware that really matters.

Just a reminder.. he’s only 5 games into a completely new system. There are bound to be growing pains. Just look at Brady. It took him most of last season to grasp Arians system. Until then things looked shaky at times.

Maybe the simple answer is that people are unrealistic about QB play. Outside of the top few guys, there's going to be some inconsistency.

I was gonna say the exact same thing. There isn't a qb in the history of the league that has made the perfect throw or read every time he falls back to throw.

Mahommes, Arob, Brees, the golden boy ... they've all made horrible throws in their career, horrible games. It's just that they have many more great throws and games than bad.

Stafford was awful for 1 and a half games then got in the groove in the 2nd half yesterday. That's when the Rams offense was unstoppable.

You gotta take the good with the bad. But only when the good is on display much more than the bad. Otherwise you get shipped to Detroit.

Didnt have an injury last week. Nor did he have one the first week when he underthrew Jefferson. And he didn't have one in week 3 when he underthrew Jackson multiple times.

Maybe the injury will help him hit the wide open reciever in stride?

Nice mumbers, nice record, but to those who dissect every movehe makes- its a mixed bag.
