IF he shows well in practice maybe MaVay shouldn't play him in preseason games so he doesn't get poached a la Lampkin. Or... and I hate to say this... if he looks good in preseason go ahead and cut Higbee or Parkinson or Allen.
Respectfully, I imagine he'd have to show as one of the steals of the draft of the last 10 years to cut one of the guys who helped us to a league leading EPA on offense and highest success rate of any team last year.

But perhaps a combo of Higs contract (is he cuttable?), age and possible proneness to injury could leave the door open to something like that.

Parkinson was the most effective TE when the Rams were enjoying great success using 13 Personnel.

Can’t figure out why some guys think he could be the odd-man-out.

There is cap relief from cutting Parkinson but I have been hoping he would get an extension this offseason. Keep him around and, an extension, would likely reduce his cap hit in 2026.

I get this sneaky feeling Parkinson is gonna be the one on the way out if there is another TE that shows well. Just a suspicion and also because the Rams save I believe around 7 mil if they do.
Nah, not in potentially Stafford's last year. Stafford would not be happy with that. Now, if this was a transition year with Simpson taking over, then I could see a move like that, moving on from a vet for a younger player. However, they will want Stafford to have all the proven vets possible around him.

Yeah, I think he is still only 26 yrs old. I could see an extension before a trade or release.

Never ever heard of this website but I thought the article was interesting. Parkinson is already getting 7 million a year and extending him for cap relief purposes only kicks the can down the road. It doesn't save any money. It might be worth it to let him test the free agent market after this year and get a good comp pick if he gets poached. With all of the young tight ends coming up I doubt the Rams would want to re-sign him. But what do I know.

I think Parkinson is 27 this season but I agree.

I have posted half-a-dozen times that I think Dotson and Parkinson are terrific candidates for extensions because their current cap hits are the 4th and 9th highest on the Team, totaling $26.5M.

Extensions for two of the most productive Rams players would almost certainly reduce their 2026 cap hits.

I could see Higbee retiring during camp if one of these UDFAs steps up and is too hard to cut. Or if he has any more injuries.
Given that he's only played in 13 games during the past couple of seasons, I was sorta surprised he decided to return.

@ Allen2McVay... do the Rams need any additional cap space this year? I thought they were already around 15-20 million under the cap. I guess if they are going to sign a big free agent like AJ Brown that would be a good option? And Dotson I totally agree with... good offensive linemen can be hard to find.

Parkinson is 27 and still in his prime so I am not against extending him. And when Snead calls I will let him know that.

For some reason I'd be a bit concerned if the Rams extended Parkinson after spending 2nd round picks on TEs in the past couple of draft classes.

The Rams did give Villari a pretty nice UDFA signing bonus. But, given the large number of TEs the NCAA has provided the league the past couple of seasons I wonder if he would be claimed for an active roster spot if released.

I just lean on the two cap sites (Over-the-Cap and Spotrac), and they both have the Rams with around $26M of cap space at the moment. However, the remaining unsigned Draft Class (which includes Simpson) should take-up about another $6M or so.

Cap site numbers change frequently, so I take it all with a grain-of-salt.

Yeah, while I'm sorta inclined to extend him, it's prob best for the Rams to take a wait and see approach with him. Too many signings need to happen elsewhere on the team, not sure if Stafford will be back, we have the ability to get younger at the position (though I'm still not sold completely on Fergy as a Y TE) and there's an outside shot that Higbee bounces back a little and can be our Y TE for one more year after Parkinson leaves.

Play out the season, see what happens unless he's willing to sign a team friendly deal right now.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Rams ended up adding Diggs. He's always brought legit threat outside the hash and we could use more of that. It adds a lot of pressure to the WR vs TE equation as well as it pertains to driving 11 vs 12/13 sets.

No idea how deep that rabbit hole goes with him on the off field stuff or his locker room side of things. That of course will drive whether they are interested in him. But I think with an incentive based contract of short duration (one year for a title run) he could potentially add a lot to this offense.

I'd much rather do that then watch the Eagles use our first round pick in next year's draft.

I like the idea of Diggs since he and Adams can split snaps to keep both fresh. Obviously they would also both relieve Nacua as well, but they basically could share WR2 and the redzone role so they both can be around for the playoffs.

The drawback is having another WR who can't help on STs, and thus losing a young WR that could possibly help on STs and be apart of the future.

Why, he was one of our top offensive playmakers with great blocking inline, an excellent outlet receiver and an 8 touchdown weapon in the red zone.
Just said IF and honestly it really is a big IF as I don't think TE is an easy position to pick up in the NFL. Why? That money can ultimately be used to extend more players before they become more expensive that are soon to be free agents. Again not saying it'll happen without the big IF. Wouldn't be smart to let good players hit the FA market if we can help it so I can see that side of it.

I'd much rather have Diggs than worry about a ST WR. Besides not all young WRs are going to blossom. We'd at least still have 2 that can learn from our top 3 on how to play WR at a high level in the NFL.

Also a possibility but McVay seems to love Higgs a lot. Besides Higgs is way more further removed from that nasty knee injury. Be curious to see what he looks like on the field this year vs last as I don't think he was playing fully recovered last year.

Most of Valari's catches were 8 yard button hooks. Not much after the catch. Jones on the other hand, looked like a WR with a lot of on the run down field catches. Even caught one with a guy around his neck. My guess is they both end up on the PS if anything. The only thing getting them on the roster would be injuries. Even then, I don't think Fergy is stupid and it took him awhile to get on the field. So I think Redman would get the nod before either one of them. In fact if injury hit the TE room that bad the Rams would probably bring in a vet.

I think it would be insane to get rid of the top TE from last year just to keep any UDFA TE from getting poached off the PS.
