I've never understood arguing about players. Either you like someone or you don't. It doesn't change the fact that you have to deal with him on ur team until they change that.

Never liked Goff. He impressed me more than once and a few times I wondered....maybe he had potential. But the bad FAR outweighed the good.

I hear people shit on Havenstein and Shake my head. He is one of the better right tackles in the league. We have him on a solid deal. He is weak to speed. Always has been and has always worked out okay. But....bitches gonna bitch lol.

I am definitely tired of all the Goff threads. I mean, damn. Hes gone. Why am I not seeing more Stafford threads?
You never liked Goff but he impressed you more than once? What does this even mean? Lol..

was most surprised that he was never as nimble and mobile (short space) quick feet and elusive as he showed on film as the California Bears quarterback.

His slow feet (compared to his college tape) and his lack of peripheral vision at the NFL level never made sense to me.
Bingo

It means I never wanted him to be our QB. I never thought he had what it took to be a top tier QB.

But, he had a few games in there that made me question that belief. Where I thought maybe I was wrong and he could be the guy. But, in the end, he proved that I was very correct.

Just never liked him. I didn't like him in college, I wanted Wentz. Jury is still out on him

I'd still take Goff over Wentz. Maybe I'm just being a fan boy here, but at least Goff stayed healthy, for the most part. He didn't divide the locker room like Wentz did. Face it. The only reason the Eagles are keeping Wentz is because of his price tag. They still might get rid of him, but it will be because Wentz decides to demand for a trade, which seems to be the trending QB move.

I think the jury is still out on both of them. Sometimes a change in locations works wonders for them. Maybe Detroit will just let Goff be Goff.

I fell in love with Wentz' physical ability. But he has certainly done nothing to say he should have been #1. If he could stay healthy and end up in Indy...I think we may get something special. But who knows.

I mean, unless we find out what came out of that FOUR HOUR meeting that ended with a "philosophical difference" profound enough to lead to a trade even as Goff was toughing it out with 9 fingers, we likely will never know.
Agreed. It may have went like this:
McV- "We need you to get better"
Goff- "I'm doing the best i can"
McV- "You've regressed"
Goff- "I need better protection"
McV- "You need to get better than the protection."
Goff- "What does that mean?"
[McV calls Snead]

I struggle with the idea of Snead and McVay being truthful in their answers to the media affecting his trade value. It's no doubt in my mind that other NFL teams knew the Rams mindset long before the massess (who ignored the earlier warning signs) found out.
Agreed. Players talk, trainers listen. Trainers talk, coaches listen. Coaches talk to other coaches around the league.

I wanted Wentz too but ehhhh. Hairy at best. Time is running out. He'll have to play a full season and win a bunch of games this season before the 12 Angry Men reconvene me thinks.

I was down after the trade. Understood the Rams’ thought process about improving at the most important position on a football team. However, I really wanted Goff to be the guy.

Kind of the battle between the thinking man (age and experience) vs. the boy (fan) in me ... that many of us have.

After the deal, I focused on some numbers to help me accept and feel better about it (the boy in me REALLY wanted Goff to be the guy).

Anyway, the comparison of Goff‘s #s in 2017-2018 vs 2019- 2020 are extreme.

31 starts in each two-year period. 24-7 vs 18-13 won/loss. 60 TDs and 19 interceptions vs 42 TDs and 29 interceptions.

Passing yards and completion percentage about the same, but more pass attempts the past two years. Rams did not throw deep near as often the past two years, in my opinion, yet Goff’s completion percentage was only slightly better. Accordingly, his yards-per-attempt were almost a full yard lower.

Now talent and coaching impacts a QB’s play; as does defense (easier to play offense with a lead or close score) but I would argue the offensive talent has remained strong (perhaps not AS strong).

Still, overall, I think Goff failed to improve, and the Rams feel they have a window right now, and they need to maximize their chances ... and the big-AND ... an upgrade at QB achieves that goal

I am fascinated by how both Stafford (with McVay) and Goff (without McVay) do in 2021. Will say a ton about all three.

Maybe the worst organization (Detriot Lions) in the NFL history, Jared Goff will be out of football in a couple of years - (from getting his bell rung)

I hope not. I hope he finds success. I think he is too good to be out of the league. If Blaine Gabbert can hold on. So can he.

The Goff conversation will always be an interesing debate. I believe he is top 10 in tools and physical ability
and bottom 10 in his ability to make quick reads and feel the pressure. Doesn't have the 6th sense,
A player like that will always be streaky ( a polite way of saying inconsistent )

Found this interesting.

That vid is freaking dope.

I definitely would want THAT GUY as my QB.

Dropping dimes... evading the pass rush... throwing from every angle, despite bodies crashing all around him... unbelievable accuracy.

Highlight tape is awesome. Only problem is, the "lowlight" tape freakin' sucks....

Yeah, he sucks...
All kidding aside, it’s amazing what time in the pocket, a deep threat, and a healthy Kupp will do for a QB.
Best of luck in Detroit.

GO RAMS

Poor dude looks so depressed right now. This must be taking a toll on him. Feel bad.

That's a man that's not in the moment. I mean... Detroit's a city on the comeback, he's a starting QB in the NFL with good family, hot gf who's also seemingly a nice person and a city that will go to war for him if he stays tough and humble.

Still, dude does look miserable...

Not disagreeing with any of that.. just can't get over how sad he looks.

Does anyone really care? I mean REALLY care that he’s gone? If so, then you were either (a) too invested in being right about him, or (b) think Stafford is a downgrade.

If you’re in the (a) group, get over it
If you’re in the (b) group, you’re nuts.

I liked Jared the player alright, but he’s no Matthew Stafford when it comes to intensity and leadership. But most of all I’m amped to see Matt play on a team that’s invested in winning it all. That dude deserves his due and I think every NFL fan would love to see him advance to - and win - meaningful games. He’s just that liked and respected around the NFL. And WE got him. It’s a helluva story. Rejoice.

What’s everyone standing around for?
Make with the rejoicing.

For now I'm hopeful but skeptical.
I'm from Missouri so Stafford will have to show me he is the better QB!

I believe Stafford is better than Goff due primarily to his mobility but is he two first round picks better?

That is the question and I am very skeptical about that even after watching his play last year.

I just hope Snead can continue to find Diamonds in the Rough in the 3rd rounds and later. Losing Holmes may be worse to us than losing Staley.
