I don't necessarily trust Goodell to do the "right thing." But IMO if Goodell were to impose a suspension, he'd be setting a bad precedent, and asking for a fight from the NFLPA.
It went from a felony charge to a misdemeanor to all charges dropped... and the restraining order dropped too. And IMO a huge piece in all this is that the woman admitted she bit him first. And I don't recall the woman ever accused him of striking her in any way... only talk of a "struggle for the phone."
@Mackeyser said it best:
3) While the NFL could suspend him, the NFLPA will have to go to the mattresses on this because based on available evidence, Jackson was defending himself and no way the NFLPA will let a suspension stand against a player that was defending themselves. That would set a precedent making NFL players open targets.
We'll see what happens. But given the weak evidence, and the fact that all charges were completely dropped, I'd be really surprised if the NFL were to impose a suspension.
There are plenty of examples of obvious serious misconduct by NFL players toward woman. But this case is murky with insufficient evidence. From a PR standpoint, if the NFL were to try to "make an example" out of AJ in this case, it could backfire on them.
