We really need Von to take a discount. If he feels like he still needs to be paid like a top 5 edge guy, we are likely way out. Miller made 19m last year and the top edge gets 28m. Top 5 bottoms out at 21m. If he wants one more big paycheck, he won't be a Ram next year.
That is a sad and unfortunate reality. I can’t blame him but I sure hope he feels different

I mean, come on now. Taking anything that's said right now as being serious is literally insane. These guys just won the damn SB and are on top of the world. When things settle down, business decisions will be made.
Its like having a bunch of drinks and hooking up, in the middle of the deed you might think or say something you surely wont feel like a couple hours later....

The Leprechaun's dynasty has begun. We have completed one trek across the /leprechaun's rainbow and secured the pot of Super Bowl gold on the other side. The rainbow trek for the 2022 season approaches in half a year.

Thank God free agency is only a few weeks away. I think anyone who's going to overpay Von will make that move early. Hopefully we have an answer next month.

Donald definitely doesn't want to be double triple-teamed all the time in his 30s. I get why he wants Miller back. Von hinted that he would be back but also said he wanted to try free agency so we'll see. Hopefully something can be arranged.
I have seen a few articles and talking heads suggest that Von will be testing FA. But has anyone actually seen him quoted as saying it?

The thread title is a bit misleading in that it suggests that AD stated that if they don’t return, he won’t either. I didn’t take his comments that way, and I really don’t see him retiring.

AD has more fingers for a few more rings. He'll be back.

Only thing I saw is a TMZ video post parade where Von said he and AD will be back

I see a fair amount of restructured players (Stafford, Kupp, Woods, Higbee, Donald, Ramsey). Let’s say hypothetically the get aggressive. From what I’ve read that could result in $60m cap reduction in 2022. Whit retires adds $16m. Trade Hekker adds $2m.

Currently at -$10m cap. That leaves $68m.

Hypothetical:
Miller. $14m
OBJ $3m+ incentives (out 10+ games)
Allen $6m
Gay $2m
Note. $7m
Shelton $1m
Howard $1m
Mundt $1m
Reeder. $1m
That’s $36m.

Leaving $32m for rooks and maybe couple of FAs:
Rashul Douglas CB $6m
M Glowinsky. OG $6m
X Woods. FS $5m
Rooks. $3m

Interesting position considering he probably wouldn’t take a pay cut to bring them back

Actually, that might be fairly accurate for year 1 of a long term back-loaded contract. Allen might be a bit lower though.
jmo.
Unless he wants to stay in LA I don’t see it even with his injury history. This is his chance to get that big pay day if it’s ever going to happen.

Oh, he'll get a big payday, I'm not arguing that. What I'm saying is in his first year (2022) of a long-term 4 or 5 year contract that his CAP hit will be considerably less than those last few years. The average salary in your post does not reflect an actual per year CAP hit.

Hypothetical. But what say you since he’s never started at LT and does have injury history.
Just a wild guess but I think someone who is desperate will offer 5 years starting at $15m and going up to $22m. Probably half of that guaranteed.

I wouldn’t doubt it could be one of our former coaches or Seattle.

My worry is that the chargers make a play for a lot of our FA's in the next couple months. They have about $78m more in cap space then we do for 2022.

We can restructure/ extend some guys and retire Big Whit to narrow that gap some, but they are poised to pounce: "You can stay in your hometown without taking a discount."

And deal with Spanos and his slum Lord ways.

While what you're saying is potentially true, there is likely a real value to these players to stick with a first class organization. How much value remains to be seen but I'm thinking we will get a bit of a discount when decisions are made.

And yeah... This is a TOTAL Homer take.

Now if Spanos is forced to sell... All bets are off. The right owner could make our life miserable in LA.
