If they do give AD a contract extension, it won't be til after they sign all their draft picks and the UDFA's they want to keep.

With the assurances Snead made WHILE he was willing to wheel and deal for the players we got this offseason, HE SAID there are resources to sign Donald THIS offseason, so no freakin' excuses.
I hold him personally responsible if Donald contract isn't settled this offseason..
Give tha man a chance to back up his assurance. I will be the first of many to call foul if his assurances prove to be hot air.

Wait until you get a load of the thread where he finally signs his new contract. One side will say "It's about time." The other side will say "We paid too much and it messed up our salary cap." :fuelfire:

And some will laugh about all the worrying that was needlessly done about the subject :D

Donald really needs to realize that the Rams can hold his rights for another 3 seasons. His 5th-year option, then tag him for 2 years. By that time he will be 29 and his chance at a giant contact may fly the coupe.

A lot can happen between now and then. Donald could be hurt and miss out on a long term deal.

I guess what I'm saying is if the Rams are offering 20 Mill like being reported, maybe he should consider the offer.

I know it's a lot of ifs and it's only my opinion but weirder things have happened in my 39 years of watching the Rams.

Realize though that the Rams have set up a weird situation with so many players coming due. You have him and cooks on their 5th year this year, and Gurley and Peters next year.

Yes the Rams can franchise him during this period, but that means that Cook can't be and will have major negotiation power (especially after they gave a draft pick for him). The following year if you tag him a second time then you do not have it for Gurley or Peters who then both are FA. Playing hardball with him may cost you more for these guys or cost you valuable players if they go elsewhere (replacing any high level player is never easy).

I actually wonder if Cooks and Donald are actually sitting back knowing only one can be tagged giving the other major power.....

Well look what happened to Morgan Fox.
Like I said earlier, it gives other players more reps.

Aaron Donald will be ready to go September.
Getting reps in training camp well help, but this will play out positively.

I think a lot of you guys have said that one of the elements of this negotiation is to see where khalil mack's contract resolution gets finalized. I believe this as well. AD will need 2-3 weeks max of "football" training in the long run. I don't think we should sweat this one at all. Again, to repeat another poster, why risk any type of non-contact injury? This is absolutely the worst time for football fans....the agonizing wait and anticipation of the upcoming season.

I listened on my way home from work this evening. Danny Kelly didn't add much but I thought Robert Mays made some interesting points looking at it from both sides.

He talked about players potentially not having confidence in the front office to get a long term contract done (TruJo, Watkins, potentially Joyner) or, if they do, they get moved on soon after an extension (Ogletree).

The point being that if Donald doesn't get signed long term (something I'm becoming more convinced of as time goes by) then why should any other player expect to get a contract they feel they deserve?

Sorry, can't help feeling increasingly negative about how this is playing out.

Who was the most recent player to receive a contract extension? Matt Ryan maybe? That was like a month ago. Its the slow time for everyone apparently

An agent I'd never heard of did a market analysis and broke down some numbers for AD and Khalil Mack. His pretty long and detailed article/analysis came up with:
Based on the information currently in the marketplace, the data suggests the following contract for Mack/Donald.

Average per year: $23.5 million
Overall guarantees: $85 million
Fully guaranteed: $67.5 million
Contract length: 6-year extension

About the agent:
Joel Corry is a former sports agent who helped found Premier Sports & Entertainment, a sports management firm that represents professional athletes and coaches. Before his tenure at Premier, Joel worked for Management Plus Enterprises, which represented Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Ronnie Lott.
