That is the thing with CEO's.....
They will blow smoke right up there... fold the company and drive past GO, take a trip in the Reading railroad and collect 200 million on the way out the door.

On the positive side of things, CEO's have a challenging dilemma - keep things cooking, all the while, meeting the demands of the stakeholder(s).

Most regular companies do not re-tool the entire product line in a year, or invest up to their eyeballs for a short term gain. However, the NFL is not a typical investment.

I hate it - but, whatcha gonna do??
What smoke is he blowing?

He is telling you exactly what is going on. And yes, they are optimistic that they can still compete for a playoff spot in an anemic NFC.

I actually thought Demoff’s communication was well constructed & on point for a Dartmouth man.
Sometimes they manage to write in complete sentences with paragraph breaks and a firm grasp of not using ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME.

Of course, a better cover story would have helped, but in fairness KD really didn't have much to work with.

It’s The Bad investments that Kill You! They could have kept this thing going. It’s upsetting on a lot of the Players The Rams have missed on.

Why didn’t he bring up Floyd or T.Burgees? Then T. Lewis? Those are just basic names.
—My fear is that The Rams don’t get the comp picks for all the players they lose.

This season is gonna be rough...
In which way ? Watching SF dominate & The Hags having a better group of younger players.

Demoff made a good point on how The Rams shut it down early in 2022

With the best WR in the league, the best defensive player in the league and possibly the best QB in the conference.

My god Rams fans have become weak minded and dramatic as hell

So in other words they still can compete this yr.

Now please tell me what their cap situation was in 23' and going to be in 24' without moving on from some of these players.

Hell, even afterall they have done they only have 44 players under contract this yr and will have barely enough for their draft class and anyone else they bring in.

The weak minded and dramatic are those who are freaking out over this much needed reset and who conveniently forget how successful this group has been since McVay took over.

Get a grip...they will be fine over these next several yrs...or at least as long as McVay is here.

More W's than L's.

That's all I ever really ask for out of the horns on my Sundays.

...along with agony to 9er fans.

We will play good football.

Go Rams.

2year plan Ramily. Not 5 year or 10 year. 2 year plan. I chose to be patient.

I don't have a problem with what Demoff said. He's being honest by saying they aren't gonna do anything to jeopardize the longer term future. But he's also saying they believe they can challenge for the division. He's not gonna say "We won't be able to compete this season". I wouldn't want him or anyone associated with the team to throw in the towel.

We see the roster and we don't think they can be a playoff team with it. But we certainly don't want any coaches and players to take that mindset into the season. So we will just have to wait and see how it turns out. Who knows, maybe we will be pleasantly surprised. Anything can happen. We went from 3rd in 2016 to first in 2017.

I'm not a fan of the line about having all our '24 picks for trades at the deadline. Leave that 1st and 2nd alone at least. We are not going to be remotely one guy away from a Superbowl this year. Outside of that, he cannot and will not say we are tanking this year. The league would go ahead and take our picks if it was admitted.
I just think the course has detoured I'm not so sure they view or value 1st round picks just as the pick they still seem to value it as either or player or currency to acquire a commodity. I believe they would trade for a cornerstone ala Jalen this season should one become available knowing they can extend him or absorb a contract or two o can definitely see it I just think it would be for a young asset again choosing the proven commodity over the unknown.

I'm not saying they will give it away but if someone young enough and game changing enough became available I think the same mentality will be in place they are in fact just reloading from that perspective. They really started the trade trend I expect it to continue but inorder to do that you can't basically play from behind which is why this past trade deadline I believe frustrated them so much they had targets but not much to give up. I think starting this season and 2024 there's going to be tons of movement. I also wouldn't be shocked to see them sign a bunch of 1 or 2 yr short term FA hoping for the best but then if not using them at the deadline to acquire even more picks.

In my estimation I'm starting to see how they view it as reloading even though as fans it seems like a complete purge to us lol.

We havent hit on our mid to late round picks as much the last couple years. Depth guys we expected to develop into starters did not and it left our team with a lot of holes given our strategy. I know people haven't loved this off-season but I'm excited to have a high 1st round pick next year I'll tell you what. It's been soooo damn long.
I'm excited about it too. That said Snead has a full year to find a way to use that pick.

But he's also saying they believe they can challenge for the division.
And I think that is the right goal. Translation for that is "we hope to be a wildcard team" but worded for more optimism.

During the trade deadline this past year, it was clear that in a new era where teams were willing to be as aggressive as we were that we had neither the draft capital nor the salary cap space to win trade conversations and be able to take on top players at the salaries they would command.
As a result, we faced a choice this offseason. We could once again restructure contracts to give ourselves one last shot with our core roster but that would mean a total rebuild would be necessary over the next few seasons. Or we could focus on replenishing our draft capital and improving our long-term salary cap situation, clearing the way for us to compete both now and in the future.

These are the reasons for pulling back now. Very smart move.

Collectively as an organization, we chose the latter path, believing in the talent on our current roster and the skills of our coaching staff to return us to the playoffs. As we sit today, we have 11 draft picks in this year's draft, including three in the top 77. We have nearly all of our picks in 2024 to both build next year and have as capital to make trades at this year's trade deadline. From a salary cap perspective, while we have had to move on from players who helped us lift a Lombardi Trophy at SoFi Stadium, we have taken all of our salary cap pain in 2023 and project to have more than $60 million in space in 2024, the most salary cap space we have had since our move to Los Angeles.

Does it really matter if the Rams make the playoffs in 3023?

Actually, a bad record increases the draft capital value.

They have a plan! I've stated before it is a good and smart plan.

Let me be clear – our goal for 2023 is to win the NFC West and make a deep playoff run. Change doesn't mean that we expect to take a step back. Our Super Bowl LVI starting lineup featured 19 starters (out of 22) that didn't start in Super Bowl LIII just three years prior. Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald all enter this offseason as fresh as they have been in a few seasons and hungry to return to their Super Bowl form. We are excited to have young players such as Cam Akers, Cobie Durant, Van Jefferson and Ernest Jones take on more prominent roles. Sean has assembled a new coaching staff with a focus on great teachers, communicators, and different backgrounds to collaborate and figure out the best way to go win the NFC.

Playoffs or not in 2023 isn't important in the grand scheme of the Rams.

I do believe the Rams organization is going into the season trying to make the playoffs with the talent they have or don't have.

Hats off to the Rams organization for making the decision to reload for 2024. Hats off to Demoff for clearly explaining the decisions whether you believe they think the playoffs are realistic or not. McVay will keep them as positive as possible and will try to win as many games as they can.

Long-time Rams fans have gone through a lot worse times than what's facing the shorter-term outlook!

I see 10 wins and maybe a wildcard this season and I’m okay with that. Gotta stay healthy though.

Call me a starry-eyed optimist, but I'm buying what he's selling.

I don't mind going into this year with an underdog chip on our shoulder and some young, hungry, players pushing to make their mark.

More importantly, I'm really looking forward to 2024. How much fun will it be to go into an offseason with few key players to re-sign (Akers, Higbee, Jefferson - all replaceable), a shit-ton of $ to spend on premium FAs, and... FINALLY... a first round draft pick to scout!

So, yeah... sign me up for this ride, Kevin! Bumpy or not... I'm in!
What else are we going to do? Jump ship? I'm with you, he's blowing a little marketing smoke to sell tickets but, for the most part, he's telling it like it is now. They just have to strike gold in the draft.
