Correct. They lack depth. I thought an early receiver would be a priority. Does this mean we will see a lot more 12 personnel?Mumpfield does not have to 'beat out Smith' for a roster spot.
The Rams carried 7 WRs on their roster for much of last season. Barring injury, they currently have Nacua, Adams, Atwell and Whittington. That's only 4. Even with Smith and Mumpfield, there could be a spot open.
The Rams are talented at WR but are razor-thin.
And in undrafted free agencyDont know much about him, but I happy to see progress. Instead of drafting an undersized WR in the 2nd round, we now pick them up in the 7th.
And in undrafted free agency
This was a Farmer Pick ast. GM!!I am just not sure about this pick. But again it is in the 7th round and how many 7th round picks actually make it to the 53
Two words for youSarcasm received.
Any insight on what Mumpfield brings to the table for the Rams that Restparo doesn’t?
The two of them are probably comparable in speed tbh. Restrepo was rumored to have been running in the 4.5-4.6 range which sounds about right, maybe he's a bit slower than that but I doubt he's a 4.8 range dude. And yet, he went undrafted. If the issue was merely a pulled hamstring, why would it have scared off the entire draft?
Seems pretty tough and goes after the ball as well. Hard to expect much from a 7th round receiver but it looks like he's got a lot of heart.Biggest thing I see said about him is he's a route technician. That's huge with McVay and company.
The issue from a Rams perspective is that Restrepo is strictly a slot WR while Mumpfield adds more potential versatility. And, IMO, the addition of Ferguson at TE is going to significantly lower the amount of 11 personnel this season. The two of them are probably comparable in speed tbh. I'd say the biggest difference is probably in the QBs throwing to each of them. Restrepo was much better set up in that regard.
But also I think there are guys who can put up volume and stats and guys who can't. So I value Restrepo's last two seasons. Also I expect Restrepo has a better chance of carving out a role in this league than Mumpfield, but would love to be wrong about that. We'll see.
Yeah... I'm definitely thinking we're going to see a significantly higher rate of 12 personnel this season. The issue from a Rams perspective is that Restrepo is strictly a slot WR while Mumpfield adds more potential versatility. And, IMO, the addition of Ferguson at TE is going to significantly lower the amount of 11 personnel this season.
And yet, he went undrafted. If he merely pulled his hamstring, why wouldn't NFL teams just rely on the tape and the metrics? He was at the Senior Bowl. They know his play speed. There had to be something up. That isn't to stay Restrepo won't be successful. Plenty of UDFAs have succeeded. But something spooked every single team. The two of them are probably comparable in speed tbh. Yep, they said Mumpfield had just about the same amount of plays from the slot as he did out wide. So a bit more versatile. The issue from a Rams perspective is that Restrepo is strictly a slot WR while Mumpfield adds more potential versatility. I don't need teams to agree with me to hold up my opinion on a player. Let's wait and see how they do.And yet, he went undrafted. Smaller slot receivers don’t tend to get drafted, even with production. Look at Wes Welker or Danny Amendola. Me? I’d have taken a chance on Restrepo, but I think he balls out in Tennessee with his college quarterback, Ward. And yet, he went undrafted. If the issue was merely a pulled hamstring, why would it have scared off the entire draft?
But would it matter?Yep, they said Mumpfield had just about the same amount of plays from the slot as he did out wide. So a bit more versatile.
That was true 15-20 years ago. That's not exactly true now. Certainly, they're devalued when compared to guys who can play outside. We'll see how he does.Smaller slot receivers don’t tend to get drafted, even with production. Look at Wes Welker or Danny Amendola. Me?
