Here's McShay's FINAL Mock, out today...

Just watched him on Cowherd. He claims the Rams reached out to "Simpson's camp" during the year because they had interest in him. He believes the interest is still there. He doesn't believe they stick at 13 and take a WR when they could probably get a Bernard or Stribling in the 2nd.

So he feels the Rams are a wildcard where if Love or another target falls, they could move up for that player, or they move back a few spots and possibly take Simpson.

In a way his thought process matches Schraeger in that they pass on WR in rd 1 and go for another position after a trade down. Schraeger has them taking the TE in Sadiq, he has them taking the QB.

We shall see.

Dan Graziano, on Rams (Simpson)

Let's skip a few picks and go with the Rams, who hold the No. 13 pick as a result of last year's trade with Atlanta. They traded their own first-rounder, No. 29, to the Chiefs for cornerback Trent McDuffie. So, No. 13 is the Rams' only pick in the top 60 selections. They haven't made a pick that high since 2016, when they traded up to take quarterback Jared Goff at No. 1, so there isn't a lot on which to base a prediction of what they'll do with this pick. They appear to have a loaded roster and not a ton of immediate needs.

Most mock drafts seem to have the Rams taking a wide receiver, but the last wideout they took in the first round was Tavon Austin in 2013. In the meantime, they've established a good track record of finding wide receivers in later rounds -- Cooper Kupp in the third, Josh Reynolds in the fourth, Puka Nacua in the fifth. You get the idea.

So, if the Rams think they can find the impact receiver in the second round or later, what do they do in the first? Could be anything. Some people are even watching to see if they make a big move up for Love, who would be a very exciting cherry on top of their offensive sundae. There's always the chance they trade down the way they did last year.

And then there's the Ty Simpson factor. The Rams have been connected to the Alabama quarterback in league circles for a while now. It's an open secret that they like him. When they still had the No. 29 pick, they seemed like the team to watch for Simpson. But since No. 13 feels too soon to take him, that talk has quieted down. Now, many wonder if Simpson could tumble out of the first round entirely.

But as I said, the Rams don't appear to have any crying needs for which the 13th pick could help them in their effort to win the Super Bowl at home. So, could they trade down from No. 13 and still take Simpson later in the round? Possibly. Could they just bite the bullet and take Simpson at No. 13 if they like him that much? Unlikely, but again, this is a tough team to predict.

If the Rams take Simpson in the first round, they're likely to face criticism for not finding immediate help for a win-now team with 38-year-old reigning MVP Matthew Stafford at quarterback. But would they care? This is the "F--- them picks" franchise, remember? If Los Angeles truly believes Simpson has the potential to be Stafford's successor, I don't think it's ridiculous to think it could go ahead and take him.

Add in that division-rival Arizona -- which many believe is the real team to watch for Simpson -- holds the 34th pick and would be a candidate to either draft him there or trade back into the first round to land him and it makes the Rams/Simpson theories a little bit spicier.
Statements like this are blatantly misleading. The Rams have picked in the 1st round once since 2016. How about this for a statement. The Rams have only picked edge rushers in the first round since 2016. It is true, but also a lie.

Maybe. Rams are so hard to predict.

All my own dislike of Simpson at 13 aside, he is definitely a fit for this offense so if McVay likes his personality and grasp of the game it is entirely possible the Rams take a shot on him there. I don't think it's likely. But certainly it could happen. Just requires Simpson to click well with McVay in whiteboard session when they sit him down and grill him.

But I am hoping they let someone else take Simpson round 1 and boost our chances for 2026 to win another Lombardi. And then take a project or QB2 type midrounds.

Now here is the ultimate fantasy. A redo of last years trade with the Falcons. Part one: trade down to somewhere between picks 21 to 30 this year with the intention of taking Simpson. Part two: Arizona wants him and is desperate to sell hope to the fan base. Arizona trades 34 this year and next years number one in what is supposed to be a much better draft. I do that in a second.

Good stuff. Nate is quality and is a good JR replacement. He doesn’t do the click bait stuff. A few hints here & there with his own opinion/thoughts/guesses.
Very sensible takes. Still shows they can go a number of directions and as Snead mentioned, the draft will shape their pick. It will come down to what happens in front of them.

Good context; thank you.

I think you may be incorrect on Dobson - we acquired him in a trade with Pittsburgh - but the rest of it is quite helpful.
You be totally correct. :thumbsup1:

"The Steelers traded guard Kevin Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams in a deal that also involves multiple draft picks. The Steelers acquired the Rams fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and their fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Rams received Dotson, as well as the Steelers fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft".

This was on August 27th,2023.

I pondered this & went with the last move on Dotson by Snead to keep this All Pro OG here as a Ram. Snead sealed (DOTSON/DOBSON) :laugh1:the next year on March 7, 2024, Dotson signed a Free Agency three-year, $48 million contract extension with the Rams.

I really struggle with the idea of taking a swing tackle at 13. We'd essentially be using a top pick on a guy that hope we don't have to use.

I think the rams are in a tough place where moving up or moving down are the only ideal options. Bain might fall to us. I'd take him (there's a nice rotation on the edge and we can probably let Young walk next year). Lemon or Tyson might be there. I'd even take Vega if we can't move (doubt we pay Avila and Dotson next year). Otherwise, 13 is kinda tough.
I understand your trepidation about a T3 because he doesn’t see the field because of strategy or situation like a WR3 or a CB3.
Yes, it probably means someone is hurt.
…but it’s gonna happen.

I can’t recall the last time we had both starting Tackles play every snap. I CAN recall seeing the difference between noteboom filling in for Whitworth and Acuri or Humphreys filling in—costly.

That’s just the immediate. McClendon will be a FA after this season. What if the Rams can’t afford him? What if he plays below what he did last season?

I’m not advocating the Rams HAVE to draft a Tackle at #13, I just wouldn’t be shocked. I DO however, think one should be picked before day 3.

Just don't see Sadiq being all that much of a contributor for us this year. We are loaded at TE. Yes, I know he could run routes, but so could Ferguson and we saw how much he contributed. This should be the year Ferguson actually gets going and we are going to hinder that by drafting another TE? I don't get it. I get OL, WR, nearly any D position. Don't get TE.
At the press conference yesterday, the media asked Snead and McVay about whoever they pick at 13 needing to immediately contribute. Snead said that it will be hard for any rookie to immediately contribute on this team, but they will have the opportunity to get into the building and build equity.

We have two TEs in Parkinson and Allen who will be free agents next year. They really could draft any number of positions, and I don't think they will limit it to those who immediately contribute.

There are 3 types of Rams fans about this Simpson thing

If you don't like Simpson it's all a smoke scree
If you do like Simpson it's confirmation from the GM about your guy
The rest of us are like yeah sure whatever we'll see what happens won't be upset either way but he could be the pick maybe.
