I've said it before, but I'm still intrigued by UDFA WR Tru Edwards who got hurt early last year.
I am as well. I'm also intrigued by Brennan Presley and Mario Williams; all three of them looked outstanding in preseason. Maybe that's why the Rams haven't taken a receiver.

If we trade next years 4th it’s worth around pick 140 on the value chart

Looking at the talent left I would definitely consider it

There are players left that I really like but many will be gone by then.

That said, CB and OL still look pretty stocked.

I hope they at least trade up for a returner

McVay and Snead addressed the Ty Simpson noise head-on tonight.

They didn’t dodge it. Made it clear this was a collaborative, forward-looking decision, not the “they’re not aligned” narrative floating around.

Perfection doesn’t exist in this league, only one team wins every year, but I wouldn’t trade these two for anyone, past or present. They handled it professionally and didn’t let it linger. Masterclass.

Barrian Brown would be a nice add. Speedy returner, developmental WR. A lot of mocks simulators had him as a late 6th or 7th pick. Of course, I have seen guys taken tonight who were mocked in the later rounds.

I like that at 6' 3" he adds a little height to the receiver room.
Promoting a guy like Edwards and playing Ferguson or the new TE as a WR could be part of the plan.
I think they are clearly saying the offense is changing a bit this year. A lot more 13, a lot more big player packages....it offers a lot of personal/package options.
Or the Rams may still draft a WR or sign a vet free agent.

At least I like Keagen Trost. I don't see him seriously as an OT as he's listed unless it's in an emergency. He looks like an OG to me. However, I am surprised he went ahead of other players including WR Chris Bell, who went immediately after Trost's selection.

Also, I'm not at all surprised that the Rams drafted a TE. I've said before that the Rams should draft at least two receiver prospects whether they be two wide receivers or a wide receiver and a tight end. McVay likes to utilize his tight ends and did so to much success in the past with the team formerly known as the Redskins. He hasn't found that same formula here in Los Angeles, so I get him trying to replicate more of what he had in Washington, D.C.

I don't know enough about Max Klare to weigh in on a position one way or the other on him other than that he's tall and speedy. However, the Ringer scouting profile has him as being sure-handed but I've seen scouting reports saying he had issues with drops, so I don't know what to believe. Apparently, he's also a bit slim-bodied, so he needs to add weight to his frame but he's been used to block in a lot of situations.

Not a perfect draft but a workmanlike execution on needs and talent.

I actually like the Klare pick over forcing a WR there. Kid has a burst that's WR-like even if his long speed is just okay.

My take is that their approach was very intentional as McVay likes to say. They like their starters and top contributors from last year. Didn't lose many, so not many openings on the roster.

What they did need was depth at OT. Trost gives them that, plus capable of playing all 5 positiobs according to Snead.

They definitely needed another QB with starting ability since Jimmy is apparently gone. In this instance in particular, a future starter, to finally get that guy in the building.

Then it's clear McVay likes his 13 personnel, so they will keep 5 TEs on the active roster. All 5 are flexible in regards to pass catching & blocking. Need 5 because if you get some injuries then he has to junk that system.

I would think part of the attraction to 13 is it also helps keep Stafford upright. Keeps defenses guessing, better blocking personnel and he doesn't have to hold the ball as long for the most part on those pass patterns.

So they are okay with Whittington & Mumpfield, probably will add a guy late to compete with those guys.

Overall a workmanlike draft. Now, not sure I 100% agree with the approach, but I know nothing compared to those guys.

I do think they sometimes are more concerned with a players floor vs while not being as concerned with a players upside. They want guys that can do the job, high floor guys, but then they miss out on the high upside guys because they want to avoid the higher bust rate, they don't want any surprises. Just my opinion on that.
In addition to your points, they're also moving to 13 because defenses have gone smaller with more safeties. There aren't many good coverage LBs league-wide. So good receiving, big bodied TEs are mismatches. The only teams that can match up are defenses like Seattle that have a safety that excels in the run and pass game. The answer for those defenses are to have multiple TEs to throw at em.

Good point on the high floor versus upside. That works because they usually pay money or trade for the stars. Everyone they draft needs to be able to be plugged into a role to give them league-average performance for cheap.

It's kind of funny that McVay, who is the most empathetic and politically correct coach ever in pressers, ends up being punished for not being his usual self with a social media shit storm.

I tell you what is funny is the 49ers fans reaction to their three bone headed reaches -:)

Mods, this probably needs it’s on thread

I was laugh my arse off listening to these embedded videos

I tell you another thing that’s funny

If you told me another team had drafted:

A stud swing tackle who will start at some point on his first contract

The consensus 2nd best TE, who is a stud, and was first in production, when they play 13 personel more than any other team and have the reigning no1 offense

A franchise QB prospect, when they have the reigning MVP who is on the cusp of retirement

An all pro CB, entering his second contract, who will make the pass rush more deadly and earn his living covering the 49ers, Eagles, Bears, Seahawks, Cowboys, Bucs, best WR, when they vie for championships

I would say, “Holly Smoke, that sounds like one hell of a draft”!!!

Then you smile and say, “It ain’t over yet, they still have 4 rounds to go”! :-)

I would reply, “Man, did you see the 49ers draft, they sucked arse”!

Go Rams

I do Not Disagree; and I am forever hopeful ... But ... the above is a VERY optimistic summary.

Just one example ... 'a stud swing tackle' ?!? ... I sure hope so and, I liked the selection ... But ...

Trost is 25 ... has been mostly a RT, so the position flexibility is a projection.
I read three draft site evaluations:
The first called him a 'good back-up, with the potential to start' and projected him in Round 4.
The second was not nearly as favorable, ranking him as the #38 OL and projected him in Round 6.
The third (least detailed) rated him the 9th best Interior O-Line prospect, and the 88th overall prospect.

Again ... I liked the pick ... but Stafford and the Rams' passing game have a problem if Jackson goes down, and the top reserves are Quessenberry and Trost.

That's fair, but better glass half full, in my opinion, because of our coaching staff and previous successes

I was going on the reports that others posted, and, while I always take it with a pinch of salt, the PFF rating (which is about the best we have for OL)

I will add that he has logged over 600 snaps playing LT in his college career, so that is the very definition of a swing tackle

I don't disagree necessarily, but I am going to push back and say he is a stud swing tackle prospect (perhaps the best one in this draft not picked a lot earlier), which both Snead and McVay alluded to. I was surprised Dunker was taken a few picks later, but Trott outplayed him, playing in the SEC, and has longer arms (even if they are shorter than ideal). I also think he might have the best base of any OT that I have seen play in this draft, even if, admittedly, he was not on my radar until we picked him

I also think he will become a full-time starter down the line, not least because round 3 onwards is where we tend to find them

On one other note, I think we will agree that Trost is already better than the turnstile we paid to back up LT last season

Even so, maybe a solid vet, better than Quessenberry, shakes loose after the draft

Go Rams!

I think the Trost selection is a perfect example of this when comparing to what the Eagles did earlier in the rd.

The Eagles took Markelle Bell, ESPN rated him as the 18th best OT. You can see he has tremendous upside at his size and athleticism for that size, but his floor could also be very low if he can't control his weight and if his movement skills might not be enough at the NFL level. He could wash out in a few years.

Trost was ranked as the 13th best OT, but he is closer to being maxed out. He likley will never will be a pro bowler, but he probably has an excellent chance of being at least a valuable swing OT and maybe a solid starter.

The Rams don't often take a swing at the low floor high ceiling guy. Maybe picks like that Alabama Edge from a few years ago solidified that thought process. He had a knee issue, but had a high ceiling. Didn't work out and he is still trying to latch on somewhere.
