All the guys who end up slotting in the top half of round 1 have good film in common. So the quality of athlete they are on top of good film can put them into those early spots.I think people worrying about performing at the combine are overreacting and over estimating how important it is. Pro days would be meaningless if the combine was so important.
Well, for unproductive players ir players that are very inconsistent, but then who look great in shorts, sure, they are overreactions. However, for guys who played great and were very productive, then they jump through the roof and run fast times, they confirm the tape and they move up.I think people worrying about performing at the combine are overreacting and over estimating how important it is. True but if Tyson clears medicals than shows out during his pro day, he'll jump right back up on the big board as well. Every athlete will either stamp their ticket at the combine like Styles or not risk injury at the combine and put their all into their pro day. Tet McMillan went the Tyson route last year and went #8 overall. Many ways to skin a cat. Also I now highly doubt Styles will participate in any of the metrics he did so well at during Ohio State's pro day. I'm willing to bet his agent is like, stand on those numbers lol....agree that Styles will go pretty high. All the guys who end up slotting in the top half of round 1 have good film in common. Everyone knew Styles is a badass force in the box. But knowing he's a rare athlete on top of that cements his ass in the very early going. How early we'll see, but damn man. I think he's off in the top 5 almost for sure now.
Also some of these Edges solidified their film as well. Bailey for example. So this stuff definitely affects slotting in the early going.
I also like Jacob Rodriguez if we go LB later on. Heisman candidate and a smart LB, not a bad deal.Anthony Hill is a guy to check out. Considered late 1 early 2 by many simulators. Also very athletic. In fact a few weeks ago one talking head thought he might be the best athlete in the draft. So maybe not with Styles did today, but this guy would add that speed element to the defense.
They can do exactly the same during their pro days hence combine is a good test but also overrated if that makes sense. Many athletes gonna take either approach of show out at the combine or their pro day.Well, for unproductive players ir players that are very inconsistent, but then who look great in shorts, sure, they are overreactions. The general consensus is combine is for medical checks, making FA deals (shhhh don't tell anyone!), prospect interviews and measurements to weigh against tape (do they have short arms, let's go back to the tape, slow 40, let's see what game speed looked like on tape, back 10 yard, look at tape, maybe this kid sees things super well and that's what makes up for it).I don’t understand the excitement and supposed draft ranking changes based on the combine. Tape on field of actual game playing/performance is what matters. Not underwear Olympics.
Now confirming height or other size items can be helpful (like QB height). Small school guys getting a chance to show off or guys returning from injury. Beyond that, it seems silly to me.
Especially from the Rams perspective. I don’t recall any guy they drafted the past many years due to his performance at the combine. Senior bowl - definitely. Maybe even secret team workouts (maybe). I could be wrong - maybe there are guys the rams drafted recently how blew up at combine in non-pads (due to his 40, how high he jumps, etc). I just don’t ever recall anyone the past 6-8 years.
From what I can tell on this website if i'm doing it right there have been 9 other LBs to score a 10. Some no names and a couple of the best linebackers to play the game. So still subjective but nothing to balk at.Who's number 2 and 3 on that list
Styles has been listed up high for a while now. This is no change, rather it's him nailing that spot down by proving he's as good an athlete as he looks like on film.I don’t understand the excitement and supposed draft ranking changes based on the combine.
