I think people worrying about performing at the combine are overreacting and over estimating how important it is. Pro days would be meaningless if the combine was so important.
All the guys who end up slotting in the top half of round 1 have good film in common. So the quality of athlete they are on top of good film can put them into those early spots.

Everyone knew Styles is a badass force in the box. But knowing he's a rare athlete on top of that cements his ass in the very early going. How early we'll see, but damn man. I think he's off in the top 5 almost for sure now.

Also some of these Edges solidified their film as well. Bailey for example. So this stuff definitely affects slotting in the early going.

Well, for unproductive players ir players that are very inconsistent, but then who look great in shorts, sure, they are overreactions. However, for guys who played great and were very productive, then they jump through the roof and run fast times, they confirm the tape and they move up.

True but if Tyson clears medicals than shows out during his pro day, he'll jump right back up on the big board as well. Every athlete will either stamp their ticket at the combine like Styles or not risk injury at the combine and put their all into their pro day. Tet McMillan went the Tyson route last year and went #8 overall. Many ways to skin a cat. Also I now highly doubt Styles will participate in any of the metrics he did so well at during Ohio State's pro day. I'm willing to bet his agent is like, stand on those numbers lol....agree that Styles will go pretty high.

Anthony Hill is a guy to check out. Considered late 1 early 2 by many simulators. Also very athletic. In fact a few weeks ago one talking head thought he might be the best athlete in the draft. So maybe not with Styles did today, but this guy would add that speed element to the defense.
I also like Jacob Rodriguez if we go LB later on. Heisman candidate and a smart LB, not a bad deal.

They can do exactly the same during their pro days hence combine is a good test but also overrated if that makes sense. Many athletes gonna take either approach of show out at the combine or their pro day.

100%

I don’t understand the excitement and supposed draft ranking changes based on the combine. Tape on field of actual game playing/performance is what matters. Not underwear Olympics.

Now confirming height or other size items can be helpful (like QB height). Small school guys getting a chance to show off or guys returning from injury. Beyond that, it seems silly to me.

Especially from the Rams perspective. I don’t recall any guy they drafted the past many years due to his performance at the combine. Senior bowl - definitely. Maybe even secret team workouts (maybe). I could be wrong - maybe there are guys the rams drafted recently how blew up at combine in non-pads (due to his 40, how high he jumps, etc). I just don’t ever recall anyone the past 6-8 years.

The general consensus is combine is for medical checks, making FA deals (shhhh don't tell anyone!), prospect interviews and measurements to weigh against tape (do they have short arms, let's go back to the tape, slow 40, let's see what game speed looked like on tape, back 10 yard, look at tape, maybe this kid sees things super well and that's what makes up for it).

And in that order of importance. What we see on the screen is the least important part of the combine. Kinda hilarious.

I suspected Downs and Styles would be underwear olympic standouts and very deservedly galvanize their positions in the draft.
I love Kyle Louis too, not in the same class as the other too but he was a bit of a dream pick for us later in the draft.

Show time boys, love it

Who's number 2 and 3 on that list
From what I can tell on this website if i'm doing it right there have been 9 other LBs to score a 10. Some no names and a couple of the best linebackers to play the game. So still subjective but nothing to balk at.

Name Pos Year College RAS
Rick Graf LB 1987 Wisconsin 10
Doug Miller LB 1993 South Dakota State 10
Andy Katzenmoyer LB 1999 Ohio State 10
Brian Urlacher LB 2000 New Mexico 10
Raonall Smith LB 2002 Washington State 10
Manny Lawson LB 2006 North Carolina State 10
Luke Kuechly LB 2012 Boston College 10
Lorenzo Carter LB 2018 Georgia 10
Troy Andersen LB 2022 Montana State 10

So its weird. That raz site i can't look anything up. So I got this from gpt

2. Luke Kuechly (Boston College, 2012) – Grade: 9.99 / 10.0
Before Styles, Kuechly held one of the highest scores for an inside linebacker. His combine silenced critics who questioned his athleticism, as he posted elite numbers across every explosion and agility drill.
  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.58 seconds
  • Vertical: 38"
  • Broad Jump: 10'3"
  • 3-Cone Drill: 6.92 seconds

3. Devin Bush (Michigan, 2019) – Grade: 9.98 / 10.0
Bush's 2019 performance remains legendary for its pure speed and explosiveness. Despite being slightly undersized, his 40-yard dash and vertical jump were in the 99th percentile for the position.

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.43 seconds
  • Vertical: 40.5"
  • Broad Jump: 10'4"

4. Jack Campbell (Iowa, 2023) – Grade: 9.98 / 10.0
Campbell is a rare "big" inside linebacker (6'5", 249 lbs) who tested with the agility of a much smaller player. His 6.74-second 3-cone drill was the fastest for any linebacker in decades.
Jets
Jets
  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.65 seconds
  • 3-Cone Drill: 6.74 seconds (Elite)
  • Broad Jump: 10'8"

5. Isaiah Simmons (Clemson, 2020) – Grade: 9.97 / 10.0
Simmons' 2020 Combine is often cited as one of the most versatile ever. At 238 lbs, he ran a sub-4.4 40-yard dash, a time typically reserved for elite wide receivers.
