Debatable if he's a better prospect or a slam dunk. The ironic part of your statement is the most common pro comp Mendoza draws is Goff.No I have to say Mendoza is a better prospect than Goff. He's bigger framed, reads exceptionally well, and moves and runs better than Goff with better decision making on when to run.
Mendoza is a slam dunk prospect. Goff was a bit below that. And nothing against Goff, he has worked hard to develop into one of the better QBs in the NFL. But just from the prospect side of things it's Mendoza all day long and twice on Sunday.
We could all get shit faced and make asses of ourselves, yelling trash talk at the 3 shitter fans who are there.Well IF it does happen, then I think a trip to the draft may be in order.
Million dollar question for the board.
Premises:
Let's say Mendoza is equal to Goff or slightly Goff plus.
Let's also say we have pick 7-8 from Atlanta.
Let's say that the Titans and the Giants retain the first two picks and are willing to trade.
Do you make a move up for Mendoza with a plan to sit him behind Stafford for a year or two?
Bigger and better athlete sure. As accurate a passer? I don't see it.No I have to say Mendoza is a better prospect than Goff. He's bigger framed, reads exceptionally well, and moves and runs better than Goff with better decision making on when to run.

I get this rationale and understand why you'd want immediate return on investment. For any other position I wouldn't mind abiding by that principle.No.
IMO, trading significant assets to move up for any QB involves that player seeing the field sometime that season.
No, we'd have to give up too much, but that's just me. I'd rather use the pick on another blue chip player.Million dollar question for the board.

There are other ways to secure QBs. What if McVay doesn't think Mendoza is worthy of going that high? I trust the Rams to explore all options when it comes to the QB whether it be draft, trade, or even roll with someone still on the roster. Taking a QB high doesn't guarantee success, the draft is all a crap shoot. There are other talented players available without trading away the farm. On the flip side, Rams could also end up kicking themselves for passing up a blue chip player if they trade the farm, go QB, and that QB busts. We'll all eventually find out the Rams strategy come next draft day lolI get this rationale and understand why you'd want immediate return on investment. But when you're talking QBotF, you make exceptions to good principles. With the way the Rams are run, it's very unlikely they will be anywhere close to drafting this high for the foreseeable future.
If you can get a franchise QB for the next 15 years you gotta take it. Focusing on playing time in season one feels super shortsighted.
Five years from now when Stafford is gone and they're struggling to find a franchise QB because McVay is too good of a coach and Snead drafts too well for the team to be a bottom feeder, they'd be kicking themselves if they didn't secure the future with the outrageous gift from Atlanta.

Of course McVay has to like the QB but now you're messing with the parameters of the hypothetical. One of the premises is that they see Mendoza as a Goff equivalent or slightly more. Goff has been a consistent above average QB since 2017.There are other ways to secure QBs. What if McVay doesn't think Mendoza is worthy of going that high? Interesting. How does Stafford's decision factor in for you? If they win the SB and he retires, you make the move up? If they win and he stays, you don't make the move? The result of this season could also determine what happens. If, and I hope when the Rams win the super bowl, does Stafford return or retire? I don't know the answer to that.
Very true. I just also think its not easy to tell what the Rams intentions are. There are many examples where we thought the Rams were going left but went right instead. The result of this season could also determine what happens. If, and I hope when the Rams win the super bowl, does Stafford return or retire? I don't know the answer to that.
Totally understand either strategy regardless of whether its what I would want the Rams to do. Definitely gonna be interesting to see how the Rams proceed as guessing how they'll do so isn't easy. If you're Snead or McVay and you can get that guy at 1 or 2, do you do it? It sounds like you'd rather roll the dice on finding another option later. Fair enough. I don't have enough trust in the other ways to secure QBs.
It's a valid point that the QB could bust and the blue chip player you passed on could be great. I'd take that chance if there was an opportunity to get a Goff plus and let him develop for a few years.

Sure but we all know some years that 1 overall is graded higher than other years. And the way I read it is a lot of his issues in disrespect relate back to not all the scouts seeing him as a slam dunk, or not liking his small hands, or whatever else.I mean, Goff did go #1 overall
He is a bigger and more athletic Goff. Look Goff is a better athlete than people realize, but he doesn't like to run. He's a pocket QB and he can win from the pocket. And from me that's a compliment. But if you put Mendoza in that draft with him way back when he'd go before Goff would.Debatable if he's a better prospect or a slam dunk.
