There's no way Goff was considered blue chip. It he was the Rams wouldn't have been able to move up from #15? to get him.

All the idiot talking heads said Goff and wentz were way worse than Winston and Mariota. Idiots. Lucky for the Rams teams felt the same way.

.
Not sure I buy this logic. The only way this is true is if the 2016 draft had no blue chip prospects.

If Goff and Wentz weren't considered blue chip they would have been taken later instead of 1st and 2nd, such as 7th like Josh Allen, 6th like Herbert, or 10th like Mahomes. It's a hard sale to say the #1 pick isn't blue chip.

When 1st round QBs aren't considered blue chip, other true blue chip prospects do routinely get drafted ahead of them.

Not when a qb starved team like the Rams give the team sitting at #1 a huge collection of picks. The Rams had to do it to get a qb and the Titans couldn't say no. They had picked their qb the year before, some stiff, Mariota maybe.

If Andrew luck was sitting there the Titans would have told the Rams where to go, picked luck and shipped Mariota in a split second.

Yeah and when I use the term blue chip with QB it just means they're good enough to go in that top three, maybe top 5 picks. There's more variance with them because of the position but they still have to be of a certain quality.

But you're right that the rare QBs don't get traded. Unless they force it.

No safeties, IDL, LBs, TEs that are blue chip? I ask as one who doesn't get into the prospects until a reasonable time...like the offseason.
Been looking at them and not a fan. Some seem to think Downs is way up there but I can't discern that. They're hard to evaluate because we don't have all 22 and he hasn't really wowed me personally. But then I don't like safeties up high either generally.

It would take more than that now but I like it

Yeah - pretty cool how good this pick could turn out.Thinking Top 12

What’s the cost for that pick ? Just think of the quality of a player The Rams will get for the next 5 seasons. Then add The Rams first round as well ? Thinking 28-30 there.Which still adds a player for 5 seasons (option).

Mendoza put up good numbers at Cal in his sophomore year, throwing for 3000 yards 16 TD’ & 6 picks in 2024. This year with a better team against tougher competition he has up his game substantially. What is not to like? IMO he’s a better prospect then Goff was.
IDK. Rourke put up good numbers at Ohio in the MAC before he transferred to Indiana and upped his game substantially playing the entire season with a torn ACL. He was rolling until he met Ohio State last year.

Couldn't Mendoza with Cignetti in his second year in the program with a more experienced Sarratt and Cooper Jr. (who saved his bacon vs. Penn State) just be continuing the trend? Maybe I'll see it when he gets his Ohio State game. But, I just can't help but to wonder if the next guy up under Cignetti is going to be just as good.

BTW, Goff put up video game type numbers during his final season with one could argue inferior WRs.

Not saying he's bad. Good player. But Goff was better, IMO.

Oh well. Here's a good video from McShay I saw earlier.

if you watch Indiana play, the difference between Mendoza and Rourke is night and day. Rourke folded when facing any type of pressure. 2nd half vs Michigan, the Ohio state game and the ND game for about 57 minutes Rourke was abysmal
I like the Goff comparison, Goff was terrific at Cal in stepping up in the pocket and keeping his eyes down field. I think Mendoza has a stronger arm and a little more of a risk taker which I like.
Mendoza stays at Cal, he's still on the draft board as he was getting press of his 2 years there. Him learning a new system on the fly and excelling right away has the Cam Ward positive effect.
That drive he put on to win at Penn State was epic. Takes the sack on 1st down leaving them 90 yards away with no timeouts. Say what you want about the Nittany Lions, but its still Happy Valley
I mean Drake Maye excelled in the same system as Sam Howell, doesnt make them the same player

The sky is the limit if the want is powerful enough. Hopefully, the Rams are in a great position of power . I’m thinking a 2026 2nd, 2027 1st and 3rd at least.

How The Rams have come to where they are & value players & draft picks are interesting.

We can’t put a True value on it right now imo.I do think looking back in history in just Kevin Demoffs & Les Sneads tenure shows how valuations only matter in the presence time & where The Franchise is !!

Les Snead & The Rams don’t even waste there time at The Combines.
Valuing players at The Senior Bowl has always been a way to UPGRADE a POSITION quickly.

We can go down The List & I won’t go into it NOW !! -Especially during the season?? Then again this is a Topic that WE can SEE transparency in The Players.

An example just in this 2025 draft as a quick example is Terrance Ferguson & how The Rams got The FIRST ROUND PICK from the Falcons. —His YOUTH & TALENT both helped transition The TE position as well as make that group YOUNGER,while using building blocks.Giving him time & The OC (TE’s coach) to put this unit together in a WAY THE NFL really has never SEEN this before ????

Still as an example of Bradon FISKE playing next to Jared Verse, really filling in for a HOF player who UNEXPECTEDLY Retired!! To FILL that SPOT it had to take a group of DRAFT PICKS to be READY NOW !! The COST of FISKE ?
2 2nd rd picks for a 2nd rd pick ?

We can’t look at a value chart & I can get into it more. There is a lot there & The TOPIC(examples) larger.

As far as what The Rams can get ? There’s games to be played, which adds to the excitement of 2025

Still think they should get a commitment from Stafford to play through the '27 season with a team option for '28. Don't go with that year to year stuff. I think he can play till he's 40. And I don't think he'd demand a contract like Prescott, Allen, Burrow, etc. Probably would want more guaranteed money.

Use the picks to draft OT and CB. Actually, if there's a legit first round talent game breaker type running back, I'd consider using a pick on one. Someone like a Gibbs or Bijan Robinson.
He's been year to year since he came to the Rams, no reason to think that will change as he's approaching 40

IMO Keep Stafford year to year.

Mahomes can opt out after the 2027 season, and I think we should take a shot at trying to land him.
