There's a ton of QBs in this draft. I felt last year that there would probably be a guy outside the early going who ends up starting. But this year's class I think that's even more true.

For example I really like Sam Hartman. I think he's got a great set of skills to distribute the ball in this offense and he's got a lot of guys in this class who will go off the board ahead of him because he's a bit small (listed at 6'1"). You can get him in that midrounds range.

Williams, Maye, McCarthy, Penix, Ewers, Daniel, Leonard are all listed at 6'2" or above. I wouldn't touch Sanders' kid but if you're buying on him he's included as well. Lot of options.
If you're not trading Stafford.. it's a great year to take a shot at a QB in 2nd or 3rd.

I corrected myself below. I wasn't fully sober this morning after yesterdays loss lol
Ha!

My point though was in the last 15 years. It seems like dynamics in the league have shifted so that finding those later round (after the 1st) QBs are even harder than it was 15-20 years ago.

Still, as Jrry pointed out, you may still be able to draft a Cousins or a Prescott later and that's nothing to sneeze at.

Next year will be interesting, so many QB hungry teams and two top tier QBs with a bunch of really interesting guys coming after.

As far as Robinson goes, I place the blame on Jeff Fisher and his influence over Snead during that time (Fisher signed off on Snead's hiring). Fisher was all about athletic freaks and gave less importance to a potential draftee's intelligence. Robinson was dumb as brick, but Snead found a player for Fisher that met his wants. I don't think Snead makes that mistake again.
True and agree, I still believe we have too many variables in play to make this determination at this point.

You can't just pick a year to take a QB. Sometimes the situation just develops in front of you and you have to pull the trigger on it. Rams are looking at a high first rounder with a strong QB class.
If we're thinking of a franchise caliber quarterback, I only see Caleb Williams and Drake Maye fitting that criteria. I don't know if we'll be bad enough to draft that high.

Most of them came out of the first round. The good ones who weren't first round picks during that post-Brady/Brees time (off the top of my head) are:
Russell Wilson
Kirk Cousins
Dak Prescott
Jalen Hurts
Brock Purdy (we'll see if he keeps it up)

I'd say Derek Carr, Andy Dalton, and Jimmy Garoppolo were alright QBs. Geno Smith had a nice run last year. Sam Howell remains to be seen. So yes, your best bet is the first round, but it isn't impossible to find one outside the first round.
Those are facts.
Most quality starting QBs are 1st rnd picks.

Breese may not have been a 1st rnd pick, but he went very early in the 2nd I believe.
If he was 2” taller, he probably would have gone in the 1st

I'll also say that while I haven't dug into QB evaluations yet, there is the potential for this to be a really good QB draft class outside the first round. Right now, Caleb Williams and Drake Maye look to be clear first round picks. If they come out, J.J. McCarthy and Quinn Ewers will also be in consideration for a first round spot. That leaves guys like Michael Penix, Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, and Jordan Travis outside the first round (Penix might find his way into the first).

That's without getting into some other interesting guys like Jalon Daniels, Cameron Ward, Michael Pratt, Dillon Gabriel, and Spencer Rattler. I'd really like for us to get our hands on a QB who can use his legs as a weapon. That makes me very intrigued by Jayden Daniels, Jordan Travis, and Bo Nix. I haven't had a chance to evaluate them yet, though. I'll say that Jayden Daniels is the guy who has especially piqued my curiosity because of how dangerous of a runner he is and how much he has grown as a passer under Brian Kelly's tutelage.

We've had pocket passers for too long. Having a QB who can burn defenses with his legs could take McVay's system to the next level.
Yes. We've had Quarterbacks who dont run for too damn long.

Everett
Warner
Bulger
Bradford
Goff
Stafford

Can we please for once have a running Quarterback? If only because I've NEVER seen one in my 50 years rooting for this team???

Hey, don't you remember Pat Haden? He ran all over the lot and was so short the defense couldn't find him?
Well, not entirely but you get the picture...

I said LT

Stafford can still play a few more years if we can keep him clean. And we’ll need that line built up for any new QB

Dominant OL also lowers the floor required for the next QB

Also, we don’t know how Stetson Bennett comes out of rehab. He may be a Maxx Crosby like success story.

I honestly would love for that to happen. With all due respect to the ‘21 SB team and the GSOT Rams, we haven’t had a dominant OL since the Robinson/Dickerson days and frankly I miss it.

Sigh - only October and we are already talking about the draft

How long have you been a Rams fan?

This is business as usual… that winning business is the aberration… ‘90s… terrible except for ‘99. 2006-2016… 11 years of being overall the worst team in football based on record and Cleveland went 1-31 in a two year period during that time…

I’m just hoping McVay stays and brings us back to being relevant. 2017-2021 were the longest stretch of sustained success we’ve had in a LOOOONG time

But yeah… also, it’s November…

And if we traded for LT Orlando Brown from NE, I’d sacrifice and nut.
