My bad on mahomes. Young was selected in the supplemental draft so no he was not drafted in the first round of the actual draft
So you think you have a better chance of finding a QB later, then a LT later?

Voted LT. It truly depends on their draft position and who is available. Nothing is guaranteed, especially with draft picks.

The Rams hit a massive Home Run with Pace but struck out multiple times since with other top LT picks (FUDGE).

QB hasn't been any better (they dropped the ball with GOFF for a SB can't blame them). The shine of a Sammy B will likely win out in the draft room with similar results.

the supplemental draft uses your pick in the next draft. He cost the #1 overall pick in the 1985 draft

We haven't had good luck with 1st round LTs. (Orlando Pace exluded).

Greg Robinson or Jason Smith anyone?

I just think the draft is such a crap shoot that it would set the team back more with a bust with a first round QB than an LT.
Agreed, but as @Oyster just so eloquently communicated, you can miss on LT too. It is an excellent QB Class, my choice would be McCarthy, if he is there, take him and look for your LT in round two. JMHO as always.

Depends on where we pick. I'd prefer LT. You want to give any quarterback enough support to succeed. If Stafford has a couple more years after this, then draft a QB in 2025 to sit for a year.

Mahomes and Young were both 1st round picks, what's the point?
Plus, lets do the list of failed QB's after pick 15 until the end of the draft, vs the very few who busted the odds to become great.

I'll let somebody else do this. @Merlin , you have time.....

You can't just pick a year to take a QB. Sometimes the situation just develops in front of you and you have to pull the trigger on it. Rams are looking at a high first rounder with a strong QB class.

If we continue to lose then we may have a shot at one of the premier tackles with our first, Fashnau from Penn St or Alt from Notre Dame if we pick in top 6-8 (which is what if Stafford misses significant time). 2nd round I like the center from Georgia, Sedrick Van Pran. I just looked over at projected free agent tackles next year and it is not good, hell Jackson might just be best of the group. If we don't seriously upgrade our line it won't matter a damn bit who plays QB, Stafford, Williams, Maye, Penix or anybody else.

My point was the goal posts keep moving and the needs are still revealing themselves with a lot of football left. The best course of action is undefined and yet to be clearly determined. We will see, what happens QB's are a huge crapshoot and we haven't exactly hit on LT's either Greg Robinson for ex:

It's a very good year for QBs. If we are drafting high enough to grab one of the top ones, I'd do it and let him sit behind Stafford for a year. Otherwise, the team has enough holes that I think it is likely we can take the best player available be it an offensive lineman, CB, edge rusher.... all things being equal, I typically prefer to build the trenches.

As far as Robinson goes, I place the blame on Jeff Fisher and his influence over Snead during that time (Fisher signed off on Snead's hiring). Fisher was all about athletic freaks and gave less importance to a potential draftee's intelligence. Robinson was dumb as brick, but Snead found a player for Fisher that met his wants. I don't think Snead makes that mistake again.

Are you guys fucking kidding me? Do some research. Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, Steve young, Brett farve, Russell Wilson, drew brees.
Way to respond to only a selective portion of my rebuttal. You're like schrodinger's poster now... both wrong and right.

There is simply no more valuable position in professional sports then QB. You cannot win games without at least an above average QB period. You can however win games with an average OT. You take the QB if you have one highly rated sitting on the board. Just as many 1st round OT's fail as 1st round QB's, we are a great example of that.

I get the premise.. but I can honestly say that without knowing when the pick is and who's on the board, I can't answer.

I guess that speaks to how close of a decision it would be.
Yeah there's no right answer to this until draft night. If it's Caleb williams or Drake Maye then I go them. But I'm not passing up on Olu Fashanu or Joe Alt for the QB 3 in this class.

At least by drafting a QB in round 1, you get the luxury of the 5th year option, so a team can afford to exercise some patience with the player.
Alas, it comes down to the player. You cant just draft a QB because you need one. That's how you end up with a Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, EJ Manuel etc

There's a ton of QBs in this draft. I felt last year that there would probably be a guy outside the early going who ends up starting. But this year's class I think that's even more true.

For example I really like Sam Hartman. I think he's got a great set of skills to distribute the ball in this offense and he's got a lot of guys in this class who will go off the board ahead of him because he's a bit small (listed at 6'1"). You can get him in that midrounds range.

Williams, Maye, McCarthy, Penix, Ewers, Daniel, Leonard are all listed at 6'2" or above. I wouldn't touch Sanders' kid but if you're buying on him he's included as well. Lot of options.
