Last season 2021 Gilmore only played 21.8 % of Carolina's defensive snaps & was only healthy enough to start 3 out of 17 gms .

In 2020 Gilmore only played 63.6 % of the New Englands Pats defensive snaps & missed 6 games due to injury issues.

Gilmore will be 32 yrs old when this season begins and would appear to be on a fast downward movement in his career.

I do not have an approving opinion for the Rams to burn what few cap $$$ on a Gilmore.

Cowherd did a bit today on the Rams and Buffalo. He said, look at the Bears and where their top 5 salaries play. #1 is Safety, #2 DE, #3 is DT, #4 is G and #5 is backup QB and compared them to the Rams, QB, DT, CB, OLB, WR. He was going by contract salary over years and not cap hit but he was close. In reality this year, the Bears are paying Quinn (DE), Jackson (S), Whitehair (G), Foles (backup QB) and Ro.Smith (LB). He compared them to the Rams....Donald (DT), Ramsey (CB), Kupp (WR), Stafford (QB) and Havenstein (T). You don't tie up huge jack on safeties or guards or backup QBs. Then he compared New England and Buffalo. The Patriots are paying Judon (Edge), Henry (TE), Agholar (WR), J.Smith (TE) and Wynn (T). You don't pay 2 tight ends and a #3 WR top 5 money. The Bills? Diggs (WR), White (CB), Allen (QB), Edmunds (LB) and Dawkins (LT). Your skill positions are the where the money needs to be spent. QB, WR, Edge, CB and T. The Bills and the Rams "get it". The Bears and Patriots (and many other teams) don't. He's got a point, even if he got the order wrong. And that's why the Rams and the Bills are going deep in the playoffs again.

Wasn’t he only with Carolina for 9 games and was holding out when with New England?

Yeah. Right after the trade he started playing. But he was inactive in week 17 and didn't play in week 18. Don't know what was up with that. EDIT: Thanks Old School. He pulled a Ramsey with New England didn't he? He was put on the PUP list July 22nd and then again August 31st. Traded on October 6th.

He missed a month with Covid then tore a quad in week 15. He really only missed 4 games to injury.

Yes and? Four games to injury and a month to covid looks pretty much like what I quoted. Hmmmmm it was holdout then covid less injury it seems. Week 15 (actually game 15 week 16) goes on IR misses 2 games to injury.

He was acquired two days before Week 6. So I’d guess he wasn’t able to play until week 9.

The quad injury was in the summer and was supposedly fully healed at the time of the trade but was not in football shape. He appeared in 8 games.

So yeah it seems last year was nearly a total loss. However of those 8 games he played in 60% of the snaps and played well.

I don’t think it’s a question of if he can still do it but more a question about the quad injury. I think the Rams could likely get a full season out of him with Reggie’s staff and if they didn’t overwork him. It’s not like a knee.

If Gilmore was perfectly healthy, then he’d be well out of price range for the Rams - end of story.

The fact he’s had injury issues recently and is somewhat older is a good thing. It means we could get the guy cheaper, without a LT commitment and on a very incentive based contract. All of that, if it were to somehow happen, would be great while we continue to team up Rochell, Love and whomever else we draft at CB this month.

I don’t know what to think of Gilmore, except…

He can play and is still very good.

His availability is a legit concern, and THAT to me is not the Rams type of player. I don’t think the Rams are serious about Gilmore, especially if he has his eyes set on 8 figures.

At 31 and not playing a full season since 2019, I think he ought to adjust his price so he can play for a winner!!! He's made 85 million in 10 years so unless he's an idiot, he should have everything he needs. But he's only won 1 Superbowl. 2 is better.

We also have to think about something else. It would be great to have 2 shutdown corners in the secondary but you'd have to pay them like shutdiwn corners. Perhaps the Rams feel 1 is enough and they can get by with a DWill or DLong or Rochel or whomever. I would think with Ramsey, DLong and Rochell, they might feel they have enough. Deayon had his moments and is currently unsigned. I'd like to see them resign him cheap. Perhaps draft another.

I love the concept of Gilmore, but I don't think they'll send up with him, for money reasons if nothing else. I can see more of a Bryce Callahan level of player.

Yeah but the thing is the market is speaking here. He's unsigned. So he can hate it or whatever but if nobody is going to overpay then the Rams come into play. Where it's like ok if I'm gonna do a cheap year here why not be a contender.

That's what I'm hoping for. Rams have benefitted this FA period from locking up guys other teams basically passed on. Robinson is like Kupp in a lot of ways, from the injury side to the impact side when healthy. So the Rams got him at a bargain which I still can't believe. Or being able to keep Boom. The fact there wasn't one dumb team that wanted to overpay him meant we got him back. Same with Allen. Shit forgot about Wagner he's another one.

So the Rams are just playing the market tbh. And from that perspective if Gilmore gets dealt enough humble pie by the market then maybe Snead takes advantage.

gilmore... whatever

i'm not feeling it..

i think the rams have enough in the secondary...

go rams...

Couldn't disagree more. Can never stop improving the secondary especially when you lose the special pass rush skills of a Von Miller. Stickier coverage can give the D line more time to get to the QB to compensate.

I don’t think Gilmore is a good choice. His recent history and age make it a bad choice and it might stunt Rochell’s growth if he doesn’t get more playing time.

This defense doesn’t need another Ramsey level talent at CB. They need the players on the roster to step up and maybe get a mid-level player for depth.

Use round 3 or 4 to take another guy they can develop over the next couple of years.

The aged, former 'Ramsey level talent' of Eric Weddle was a great lift for the defensive backs in the playoffs. One to two year veteran rentals with former studs is a great way to develop young talent. The Rams are very excited to have Ernest Jones learning from Bobby Wagner.

I think this is the only way Gilmore ends up here. And to your point, he’s not signed yet. Time will further erode the market for bigger contacts.
