I think this is the only way Gilmore ends up here. And to your point, he’s not signed yet. Time will further erode the market for bigger contacts.
can never have enough frontline players, 17 games in regular season leads to loss of players to injury.

The aged, former 'Ramsey level talent' of Eric Weddle was a great lift for the defensive backs in the playoffs. One to two year veteran rentals with former studs is a great way to develop young talent. The Rams are very excited to have Ernest Jones learning from Bobby Wagner.
Weddle was an emergency add due to injuries.

Gilmore has missed nearly half of the last two years. I have my doubts that he could help add anything that Ramsey doesn’t already bring in veteran leadership.

If they sign him I’ll root for him to contribute but IMO he’s not a need.

The key is if they can get him cheap.

Rams are clearly moving slowly and carefully at signing a vet for our secondary.

I’m just gonna have to trust that they make the best decision. They’ve done pretty damned well on most of their FA decisions over the past 5 years.

At this point, every team is slow playing it with FAs as most are over 30. That FLO mind game can definitely play in our favor to get a vet to sign a cheaper deal. On the other hand, a lot of these vets probably don't like training camp and know an injury or 2 can put a team in a bind so it leads to them getting a contract closer to their terms. I'm sure we'll either get someone right before the draft if I had to guess.

Isn't there usually a flurry of activity right after the draft. Don't fill a need there, gotta move quick before your options are limited, or gone.

He's a couple years in now and looking around the league and then seeing what SF has at QB...

There's actually been talk for a few weeks now that they're going to trade him and like with Woods and Rams fans they don't want Deebo traded but they get it. Hell look at what WR's are getting paid this year. Can you devote $30 million to an edge a WR and have a highly paid LT and TE like they do and keep Lance after his rookie deal? It's the same we're dealing with now. AD, Ramsey, Stafford, Floyd, Kupp etc etc etc. The team that keeps coming to mind is the Jets. Send back Elijah Moore and a top pick they have a couple very high might not need to be the first of them.

Deebo is in his contract year. He wants a new deal now. He wants to stay in ST imo otherwise he’d play it out and try free agency or demand to sit out if he’s franchised.
Yeah they also have Bosa who was drafted the same year due for either an extension or a huge raise on a 5th year option add in McGlinchey on his current 5th year option and Ward is on the final year of a deal though at close to 33 he may be gone anyways. They have cap issues even with Jimmy coming off the books at worse next year. Add in Trent Williams, Armstead, Kittle and Warner take massive increases next year. Williams and Armstead $26 million+ and the other two 18+ yikes I think is the word.

edit add in Chavarius Ward over 16 million next year. They have cap issues even with them projected to be well under the cap.

That offense wouldn’t be nearly as good without Deebo. I’d argue that they’d be better to trade McGlinchy and let Ward move on.

Could be but Ward is one of those cap neutral cuts/trades IIRC with guaranteed money. IMO like I told Niner fan family/friends it comes down to Shanny's ego. Does he think he can keep the team on an even level or even improve it with what he gets back in a Deebo trade?

I just can't see this at all. But would be awesome

I mean if they took a discount we have about 7.5 million right now. With the way they are seeing up cap hits that enough for them and 6 other players lmao.

Realistically speaking though is it out of the realm of possibility that they have about 7.5 on cap space rt now I understand rookie class but AD and Kupp have not been down yet and possibly Ashawn. You heard how Morris spoke of him today. So while is it crazy possibly but from AD and Kupp you have to think that's at the very least 20 million potentially saved/open cap.

Now it it was true I'd prefer Clowney and Gilmore but wouldn't complain either way.
