I wouldn't have minded Key for that price. He had a good year and thats pretty dang cheap.
I can't find anything on the money. How much did he get?

Nevermind, found it.....up to 7 mil. We have 8 mil in cap space?

Clowney is as much of a pipedream as Wagner is to me. I'd love one of them but seriously doubt with end up with Clowney, and unknown with Wagner.
Clowney is asking for more than Wagner right now.

It’s possible that after the draft many teams fill needs and allow some vets to shake loose or are willing to trade excess.

It’s also possible that after the draft players like Wagner, Clowney,etc,.. have different levels of interest than pre-draft. Some teams may suddenly show interest after not filling a need while others may have less interest.

Then there is always the chance the Rams wait until the trade deadline.

I agree with your primary point, and agree the Clowney is unlikely.

However, I think other players are very aware of the AD effect on Edge players. Suh, Fowler, Floyd and Miller all came here either on one-year contracts or at the end of their contract. All four received new deals (from Tampa, Atlanta, the Rams and Buffalo) that were SIGNIFICANTLY above what they would have made had they not had a year next to our Great One. Money talks yes, but it doesn't always have to do so for this year. It can whisper sweet nothings about the future contracts to come.

My guess is a very high incentive deal that does count on this year's cap. As always let's see the details.

I thought he would be a good signing for the Rams. He is only 25 had 6.5 sacks in 35% of Whiner snaps. Looked more powerful this year at least against the Rams. He was a little immature coming out of college but, had talent. Key also tallied 17 quarterback hits and 19 hurries against opposing teams.

The story on Clowney is that he’s had his best year in several years playing next to Myles Garrett. Now he wants to cash in on that. So basically he already did what your saying the others did. Only he did it with Garrett. Clowney wants his payday.

I figure the Rams are so deep into analytics and advanced metrics that they look into players and on an individual basis compare them to what is on the roster already. If there is not a clear upgrade then they figure it’s not worth handing out contracts.

That’s why they perked up when Danielle Hunter was rumored to be available. They want a ‘do it all’ stud. If they sign an up and down type like Clowney or an undersized guy like Houston then that takes cap space from them to sign and play a better option if one becomes available in trade or via release. I won’t be surprised if they hold out until the trade deadline in October to fill that need just like last year. I know they had their eye on an outside linebacker in the draft last year but he went about ten or so picks before the Rams picked.

This is not a prediction ... just an observation ... with a little hope and wishing mixed-in.

Jourdan Rodrigue seems well clued-in to the Rams' Front Office. Several hours ago, through The Athletic, she wrote regarding a Donald extension that the Rams 'expect it to be done soon.'

Within the last hour, she tweeted:
'Last Aaron Donald contract took awhile. This one won’t, says Rams money guy Tony Pastoors.'

Since a Donald extension could lead to other moves, I am being a little hopeful.

Out of the box… Robert Quinn trade.. convert this year’s salary to bonus.
Love the idea, but the reality is that he had 18.5 sacks last year, has a dead cap hit of 12.7 mill & 3 more years on the contract at roughly 13 mill per (all non guaranteed) Basically makes him untradeable unless they got bowled over.
Also, with trading away Mack, he's the man in Chi-town now

If he takes less, he might get a ring with his old team. Chicago is in no danger of winning before he retires....

Not a move for this year but would anybody like to see the Rams draft Ojabo, despite his torn achilles? They got a guy who knows how to get them back quickly, hell maybe even 2022!!! Could probably get him low.

Takes less what? He's already under contract, and a pretty cheap one too considering where the prices have gone. If he were traded, the team taking him on could easily restructure that deal making it even more cap friendly

I would be surprised if he fell all the way to the end of Round Three.
