Oline.
Oline.
Oline.
If we had a good one we would've went to the sb. I love floyd but I much rather get oline help. The entire offense depends on it to much to continue going cheap on it.

I'm curious what would you like to do with the OL? I agree we can upgrade it, but compared to last year it was much, much better this season. Yet Goff had another down year just like last year. So we can upgrade center obviously..but what are ae going to do at guard? I think not too much right?. We have Corbett is who is young, and Edwards/Noteboom/Evans at LG.. all young. More than likely Kromer wants to keep developing these guys. But none of these are GREAT players. They are all pretty average.

What about RT? We can dump Havenstein and save some money. But hes our best 2nd lineman right now. Hes good in the run game and average in the pass game I'd say. But also not a GREAT player.

LT? If Whitworth comes back he has a job. He is still a very good player, but not an elite LT anymore.

So realistically how much can we upgrade the OL in one offseason? We can get a new center, but more than likely both guards stay the same and both tackles as well. Maybe we get a new RT, but will he be an upgrade over Hav?

My point is, a lot of people are saying "Goff needs a better OL, Goff needs a better OL." Okay, I dont disagre..with his skillset its the best way to maximize his talent. But HOW do we improve it drastically from this year in one offseason? We really cant. We have no 1st round pick, so we wont get an elite OL talent. We can upgrade center with a 2nd or 3rd rounder...but does that make this a GREAT OL? I dont think so. I think we will be middle of the pack again next year with an average OL. Can Goff be a great player with an average OL?

Floyd is fools gold. He's been doing exactly what we needed from him, and I really appreciate his participation in this defense, but his production will plummet without AD to suck in the entire OLine. I mean just watch yesterday's game, where was he ?
If he understands that, maybe he'll accept a team friendly deal. I think for him it's a question of either having a shot at a deep playoff run with the Rams and alongside a first ballot HOF, or getting paid for 4 years in a 6-10 team.

What’s the deal with Higby’s contract. Probably wouldn’t be a good idea to get rid of him too with Everett most likely being gone but he disappeared this year too. Just wondering what his contract situation is.

What's Brockers contract? I think we should try and keep Fox considering Brockers just last season was on his way out. Fox has been a very good/great rotational player. Same with Blythe. He may not be starter material against some defenses, but he is a solid back up that knows the whole line. And we need depth at oline.

Ebukam is a goner for sure and I can see us letting Reynolds go. Obo may be gone as well. I hope we find a way to keep JJ3, but considering how well we are at getting talent at the safety position, they may feel he is not needed as much.

In the draft we need oline, olb and wr most specifically IMO.

Brockers costs about 8.5 mill in 2021, and would hit the cap about 4 mill if they trade him. So if Fox gets more than 5 mill per year its cheaper to keep Brock

We had a good year. Out played what most people expected in the media. Many outlets had us in last place in the division.

So, what are we doing going forward?

Goff is our QB...like it or hate it. He isnt going anywhere. The contract assures that basically.

Coaches need to find a way to play to his strengths. He has played great before. He can do it again. We need to figure it out.

Im tired of this bullshit offense. Running the same fucking plays. Goff is a decently accurate guy. Let him sling that fucker. Get back to 2018. This bull shit wr shift stuff has gotten old and clearly isnt working. We may need an actual offensive coordinator if Sean can't make the proper adjustments.

We are going to lose a lot of players and im unsure how we can keep or sign anyone. The cap issues are real. And I dont understand them well enough to understand the options. Perhaps one of you does.

Who needs to go:

John Johnson- He will command big money, we dont have the luxury and once Burgess is back, I will feel great about our safety situation.

Gerald Everett- Someone will pay him. Not us. We tried, he didnt work out. Never lived up to potential.

Josh Reynolds- I like the guy. He is tough as hell. But, we need some speed.

Troy Hill- he flashes here and there but is just a liability too often.

Who needs to stay:

Leonard Floyd- I am convinced this isnt a Donta Fowler situation. Floyd outplayed any expectation I had for him. I'm not sure how, but, we need to move mountains to keep him.

Morgan Fox- The guy reminds me of Chris Long with his effort. He is great off the bench. If he doesn't command too much money, this is a no brainer to me.

Austin Blythe- Yea, I said....fight me! Lol if we can keep him cheap, I'm good with it. If we can find someone else better for cheap, awesome. But I dont see it happening. Give him a short term deal and see what happens.

Andrew Whitworth- I know he will be 40 next year but. If he wants to come back and we can make it work financially. He needs to be back. He was still a great piece.

There is more to be added but, using a phone it gets hard to keep on track. I really want to see what some of you are thinking. I enjoy the reads and some of you have terrific insight and intelligent ideas and views.

Notice I didn't touch the draft or FA. I dont know shit about them. So, let's hear it.

How do we get better?

As much as I wasn't for resigning Brockers, he'd play well. I'd like to see them keep him.

I really wish we would've gotten to see Hopkins play this season. I'm sure he'll be GE replacement.

Players that I want to see leave are Reynolds, Everett, Hill, Blythe (sorry to my Hawkeye), Reeder and Young.

If it's between Jj3 or Floyd, I keep Floyd. Yes, he may be fools gold, but he made more plays than JJ3 and the depth at S is far superior to EDGE. Some say Terrell Lewis is the Floyd replacement, but he sure as hell can't stay healthy. And even if he's fools gold, I'd rather have some fools gold that'll make plays, than not.

And as fun as it is, we're not trading for Deshaun. We don't have the draft capital. If they trade for any QB I could see a move for Darnold or something.

In regards to the salary cap, it gets better sooner than I imagined.

By 2022, we have 32 mil in cap space with a bunch of key cogs in place still. I will attach the screenshot.

It does get worse before it gets better as we are projected to be 22 mil in the red next year due to the salary cap being reduced.

What if the interior Oline is solidified by 2022?

What if Jared Goff has a huge re-emergence due to the above, as well as all the adversity he has faced and experience he has gained from it?

Jared Goff was awesome in 2017/2018.
What if he is 30% better than 2017/2018 JG in 2024 with a re-tooled oline and cap space?

We thought this was a rebuild year. I think our true down year is this coming one.

Our window re-emerges post-2021, dependent on continued good drafting and a solidified oline.

My belief has always been that a very good to great center just helps the overall quality of the offensive line play more cohesively.

Time after time - I saw Blythe not blocking someone and go to help someone too late to pick up a free rusher.

A very good to great center knows the weaknesses in the line and helps out right away.

I don't think the cap gets reduced
It has a terrible adverse effect on the players and the NFLPA won't allow it. And next year if I'm not mistaking is 17 games you will need every hand on deck it may stay the same if anything the NFLPA may fight for the increase or half the increase but I cannot see a reduction being implemented without some sort of stoppage.

Give it a rest with the Deshaun Watson crap.

1. The Texans will not trade him; why would they? He is under contract.

2. IF they did trade him, we dont have either the Cap space OR the draft capital to go and get him.

It is not even a remote possibility and I refuse to spend the next 4 months talking about it.

I think everyone basically goes.
Would like to keep them all.
Have to upgrade C, add a WR, CB as well.
With no cap room and limited draft picks.
If I had to pick one to keep it would be Williams followed by JJ.

I can see already this offseason is going to be painted just like the previous four.
1) We have no cap room to do anything
2) We have no draft capital to make trades
3) We won't be able to supplement FA losses via the draft/waiver wire

So you think upgrading center will turn this into a great OL for Goff? We have no 1st round pick. We wont be getting an elite center talent in round 2. I think upgrading center will help yes obviously, but people thinking it will transform the play of all 4 other positions are kidding themselves.

Not one person on our line is a great player. Even after upgrading center the OL will br more or less average again next year. Middle of the pack. So again, can Goff be successful with an average line?

We were pretty successful this year with 10 wins and a divisional round appearance. The performance of the line changed drastically with the exit of Saffold and Sullivan. A single player can make a huge difference. The draft isn't necessarily the place to pick up quality linemen. Even first round picks are sometimes undersized and not NFL ready (unless they are freaks) for at least a year or so. Whitworth was picked up in free agency. So was Sullivan.
