If Atwell turns-out to be useless; and Ernest Jones is no more than a Practice Squad player, then you are right. There was another poster who predicted Jones would end-up on the 2021 Practice Squad.

These were two players the Rams clearly liked a lot. Yarber told Atwell the Rams may not let Atwell out of the second round; and McVay told Peter Schrager that the Rams would not pass on Atwell. The Rams' metrics ... whatever they are ... really favored Jones over a number of ILBs projected to go higher; and Snead said he would have been the pick at #88 had they not traded-down.

These were the kind of picks that McVay and Snead SHOULD be remembered for. If they turn-out well, us fans should remember that.

If your analysis is right, then that reflects poorly on McVay and Snead.

Hope you are wrong but if you are right, then I hope you are hired as the next GM.
Even if Atwell and Jones turn out to be useless, this draft could still be considered a success (other than center) if the other players pan out. I really like some of the picks in the fourth fifth and seventh round (special team players are useful too). We sucked last year in our special team coverage units. And our return game wasn't much better.

I guess I agree but if the Rams swung-and-missed (like Karate thinks) on the first two picks when they reached on two players very few had projected to go that high, then that's not good.

However, if Atewell and Jones turn-out to be really good players, then the Rams look smarter than the masses. As a Rams' fan, that's what we hope for.

Draft grades = entertainment........

Some people like movies, some people like music, some people like Real Wives of Orange County. I put draft grades closer to that last one.

I think COVID changed their draft style. Instead of valuating players vs other team's picks, I think they just flat out targeted people they liked and pretty much picked them in order when their guys came up. If you listened to the players talking about the process, all of them seemed confident that the Rams were going to come for them. Coaches had been talking to them since February. I think the lack of a full season in many cases and the lack of in-person scouting in almost all the cases, led them to just focus in on a few guys and ensure they got them. Let's hope that means they are right in their valuations.

Yeah I agree that it's not good to swing and miss on your two highest picks.

So how many were worried/upset when the Rams picked Akers/Jefferson last year. I’m raising my hand as I had my doubts until the last quarter of the season. Now I’m seeing what theRams got and I’m thinking they may prove to be brilliant on their picks. I’m giving the same timeframe for the Rams first 2 picks this year.

As I mentioned, I'm just a "fan" and this was a fan's take on the Rams draft.

I'm a die-hard long-term Rams fan, so I do hope I'm wrong!

What's funny about that list is that most of our bad grades seem to come back to the Atwell pick - but Kiper had him as one of the best best available right before we picked, and obviously the Rams had him rated highly. We don't know what other NFL teams had him rated as, but it could have been a late 2nd/early 3rd for most teams.
I think Kiper's board most closely resembled the Rams' board. He had also mocked Jones to us. No surprise that we were like his 4th highest grade overall.
