Agreed. This sure makes Coach Gruden's email look tiny. How many people did his private email kill? None? OK then, how many people did his email physically injure? None? Oh.
IMO you can't capsulate it that way. There's no way these cases are similar in ANY way, shape, or form.

Fuck. Driving 156 is a recipe for disaster. Sober or not. Unless you're a race car driver on a track.

I still dont get how NFL teams making hundreds of millions a year don't have full time drivers for their players. Making hundreds of thousands (minimum)

If I'm an owner, why don't I pay for car service. Players and certain employees of the team would have access to it and it'd have availability in any town they play in and they would be encouraged to use it (not family members unless they were with the player, but yeah).

Even if that cost several million dollars a year, it's a way to protect the players and avoid this awful and senseless loss of life.

I think I heard, because this was years ago, that the NFL does provide car service for players that request it.

I just searched. Yes, they have car service. Here's one link I found on it:

UBER. LYFT. TAXI.

Why. Is. This. Shit. So. Hard???

If you're a pro ballplayer, if you drink AT ALL, just arrange for a car and don't think about it. I don't care if it's one drink... as even one drink in combo with meds ( and how many players after week 6 aren't on any opiates? Lots are by now for sure) can jack you up.

It's like advertising to the world that you got a double dose of shitty decision making as a baby... dang.
From personal experience, it's not always easy to convince someone they need to give up their keys. A lot of people have driven under the influence and gotten home without incident before. And they always point to that. Even if it was just dumb luck that nothing bad happened, they don't see it that way. "I can handle it".

Yep, and David Carr said he tells all his teammates he will come pick them up no questions asked if they need a lift as well. Multiple possible avenues were there for this dipshit to not be a murderer beyond just being a total jackass moron.

A young life taken and a young life ruined.

Ruggs did something extremely dangerous and stupid.
He's going to pay dearly for it.

He is going to regret this for the rest of his life.

Young Men make dumb decisions everyday.
This one ended horrifically and it's a guilt I would never want to have to live with.

I highly doubt that Ruggs planned on killing someone that night and throwing a promising life and future away, but that's what he did.

Total loss from all sides.

I disagree.

anyone driving a car should know the killing capability even at legal speeds and piloted by the stone cold sober. To ignore those simple facts and compound an already dangerous situation by getting blind drunk and then not availing yourself of a service many of us wish we had……no reasoning exists where I will ever see him as anything but an uncaring, moronic murderer.

Sorry.

Kind of a totally different lane. The Raiders are on the front lines of fighting racism and misogyny. The league is trying to follow suit. Gruden clearly does not fit with the movement.

He was either on board or not.
I hear ya. I understand what you're saying. Tell me your thoughts. Did Gruden need to be "on board" in retrospect 10 years ago when he sent the email? More importantly, Do you think Ruggs will sometime in the future play again in the NFL? After jail time (if he does any) and after the dust settles? Maybe the 2023 season? Do you think he'll play again?

Sorry.
No need to apologize.
The guy killed someone.
Intentional or not, 2 families are devastated.

Ruggs life won't be a cake walk after this, either.
Ruggs is going to pay dearly for this.
As he should.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already...

In Nevada, there is a MANDATORY prison sentence for this kind of offense. It's 2 - 20 years. I heard this on the radio this morning. If they are correct, he's gonna be locked up for a minimum of 2 years. With the level of negligence involved in this one... I just can't see him getting the minimum.

Hey, at least he managed to slow down to under 130 on impact.

Just a freaking tragedy. Impacting multiple families and taking an innocent life. Times like this I wish we had a time machine.

He may have not planned on it... but he certainly made all the decisions required to kill someone. This wasn't someone slightly buzzed who missed a red light at normal speeds or something... dude was very aggressively reckless.

It's more than a dumb decision, it's a total disregard for the health and wellbeing of others and a PROFOUND arrogance.

That just further removes any excuses…

I mean, I know… I grew up around alcoholics… couple ether with young men in their physical prime who already can do what most humans can’t and it may be understandable how an impaired player may decide that, it’s all the more inexcusable

I hope it's the absolute maximum. That poor woman burned to death, along with her dog; she did not die on impact. He absolutely needs to pay before I'm willing to forgive him, and so far, according to his reactions to the police, he hasn't done anything to get himself close to that point.

I think Riggs will be too old bro play in the NFL when he gets out of jail.

I may have misunderstood the Gruden situation but I thought that some of the Emails were more recent.
