Well, the teams that pick prior to us in the 3rd and positions they took in the 1st are:

Baltimore TE, QB
NYG RB
Indy OG
Houston -
NYG RB
SF OT
Denver DE
NYJ QB
Miami CB
SF OT
Oakland OT
Seattle RB
Cincy C
KC -
Pitt S
Houston -
Dallas LB
Detroit C
Baltimore TE, QB
LAC S
Carolina WR
KC -

I presume the presumption is that the team in question won't double dip and spend multiple picks on the position.

The position that makes the most sense is TE. Not that many get drafted and having one team removed from the pool makes the player they are targetting that much more likely to be available.

It's also possible that it could be LB (edge or ILB) or C.

Center is another position that doesn't tend to be heavily drafted and with so many solid players at skill positions (WRs are gonna be in vogue tomorrow for rounds 2-3), that if the Rams really have their eyes on a C/G player in the third, that could help.

It's still a very obtuse bit of information. Every position on offense was taken and most of the D.

Interestingly, none of the teams picking before the Rams in the 3rd took a DT. DT/P/K/LS were the only positions that are absolutely ruled out. But DE/Edge, LB, CB and S were all taken.

Another tack would be to focus on teams with two picks in the 3rd where a team took the position they are looking at.

That would be Baltimore and SF. Houston and KC have two picks before us in the 3rd, but neither had a first round pick.

Baltimore took TE and QB. SF took an OT.

If we deal with that, then it could mean TE or OT, both of which are needs for this team long term.
Which points maybe to a sleeper pick at TE or maybe Orlando Brown slips?

I dunno. Really looking forward to tomorrow, even though I'll be saying more than a few dammits because guys I'd hope we could get are gonna be taken off the board.

You left out the 2nd round. Those are all teams picking before us as well. Also listen to the entirety of Snead's response.

Well, I was mostly responding to the VCSCurley tweet (I don't know the actual handle) that mentioned the third round.

The inference in the tweet is that they're targeting a position in the 3rd and they feel better about getting that position because someone ahead of them in the 3rd took that position in the 1st.

I didn't know Snead directly responded. Could you link the audio or the tweet?

Edit: saw it. watching now.

Okay. Watched it. I was right. Snead says exactly what I'm saying is that a team picking ahead of them in the 3rd took that position in the 1st.

Positions that don't tend to be double drafted in the first three rounds are TE, OT, S, RB, and LB. It's rare to double dip on any position, but some are rarer than others.

The thing is he said somebody picking before our first pick, which really is 86 picks not just the 3rd round. So if the Rams felt somebody was going to take a certain position and did it in the first any of those guys who pick again before us at 87 are candidates for the list.

I get it @Elmgrovegnome you like Baker :D

Statiscally, Baker is miles ahead of the rest of these QBs. Plus he has the confidence and moxie to lead.

But, also why I disagree with such vehement criticism is that Dorsey has always been a good GM. Why does everyone think he suddenly turned stupid, just because he was hired by the Browns?

I would pass on both Barkley and Chubb for a boatload of high picks. I would need a high price, but there would certainly be a price that got it done.

The Browns already have a boatload of high picks.

Giants have a lot of faith in Eli playing better and for another 3 years it seems.

Or...they weren't that impressed with this QB crop.

Ward not Chubb DE-Wow

Dorsey loves his corners, and Cleveland needs one. Chubb is overrated too. He is good but isn't a wow type of pass rusher.

Smartest pick of the night IMO. You have to keep either Luck healthy or Jacoby off his butt.

One scout said of Nelson, that he is a mauler, and there is nothing special about a mauler. I can see it. Nelson is a beast in college, but he will be facing a lot of beasts in the NFL. He won't be able to out muscle them all. When Notre Dame lost to Miami, their OLine didn't look so spectacular.

Cardinals to get Rosen.

I never worry about a rookie QB. Too many of them don't turn out to be stars. If he is great in two or three years, then I'll worry.

Really big arm.

It’s NOT arm strength...but Goff’s initial ball velocity was 58, Wentz’s 57. Rosen’s 64. AND he has touch unlike Josh Allen who’s like a young Brett Favre.

I don't think Allen will be as successful as Favre.

Im higher on Penny than most.. I hate that I have to hate him now lol

I like Penny a lot also, but not in round one.....and with a bad OLine. Schneider's shine has really warn off since his first couple drafts, which I think we're more Pete and his familiarity with college foes fresh off bailing on USC.

The other Edmunds brother, eh? Seems like a reach to me.

Pittsburgh has been trying to find another Troy Polomalu. Edmunds may be as close as they get, in this draft.

What a weird draft.
Just saw on cbssports, Vita Vea weighs 347, at 6'-4".....wow. Will be interesting to see how he develops down in Tampa. Thought he'd be a SheHawk, so glad he's not.... and so glad they WASTED a pick on a small-school RB who'll have no one to block for him for at least 2 years. wow. Didn't get any replacements for their secondary, which is mostly depleted & will get even MORE so if they trade their All-Pro safety to Dallas??
Cards with a good pick. smh.
49'ers with an OT pick, someone's scared of the Mob Squad.

Cuz he took the job?:sneaky:

He walks into a team that has some nice pieces, and he has a boatload of picks, and cap room to start this team makeover in his image. If Dorsey is the guy who turns the Browns around, he will no longer be regarded as a very good GM. He will become a legend.

He has a great talent evaluator by his side in Scott McCloughan, too. I think busting on the Browns is finally going to come to a close for a while. Hopefully the Browns can pass the mantle of perennial loser and butt of all the jokes to the Seahawks, Cardinals, and or Niners, for decades to come.

My first thought when Tampa made this pick was, "a 347 lb man playing in the Tampa heat and humidity?" It will be an interesting experiment.

You seem to be in the minority regarding both Mayfield and the Brown's picks. I think that minority is just you and the Cleveland brass.

Who cares what stats Mayfield had in college. The question is, will his game translate to the NFL, and is it worth the draft's #1 pick to find out? I say no!

Love Les as our GM and he has been great at what he does.

But man, he is easily the worst speaker I have ever tried to listen to.

One of Mcvay's greatest skills is being able to look cool when Snead speaks and stumbles all over his words.

Living near Tampa, lemme just add... he won't be 347 for long.

I fully expect his body to look pretty different this time next year.

I don’t think Allen will be anything like Favre.

The only thing Favre-esque about Allen is that he ONLY throws fastballs.

While the QB coach at GB, Steve Marriucci made a film cut up for Favre. He’s throwing at receivers so hard, you’d think it was a Dodgeball tournament. Balls were flying off receivers hands and pads and going 40+yards.

Point was Allen will need touch in the NFL.

I mean Goff has touch and his first year, his fade wasn’t good. With excellent coaching, he really improved it and it’s pretty good now.

Allen has a lot farther to go. A lot.

Im glad I am not the only one who thinks this. He's a tough listen. Smart guy, but illiterate as fuck.

First of all the Cleveland Browns and you don't want to kick a dog when it's down, but I have an Uncle that is a Cleveland Browns fan. He and my Aunt head to Cleveland three times a year (about a 7 hour drive) and watched his beloved Browns and last night I texted him with a shaking head emoji just unbelievable .

Many thought new General Manager John Dorsey would change their fortune, however, on analyst put it best:

John Dorsey, who is one of the more respected front office men in the sport, who worked in Seattle, Green Bay and was the Chiefs general manager, goes to Cleveland and the Browns infect him with the Brownsian Virus, the way a zombie from The Walking Dead spreads zombiness with a bite.

Baker Mayfield is like a Cheap Sweater, that will shrink after every wash. Sorry never thought much of Mayfield and I could be the one who is wrong, but I really believed Sam Danold was the best Quarterback of this class and the New York Jets hit it big because another team chose the wrong Quarterback.

The Cleveland Browns remind me of an old episode of a show called Hogan's Heroes, in it, Colonel Hogan is trying to defuse a bomb and has two wires left a blue one and a red one and he asks Colonel Klink which wire to cut and Klink tells him to cut the Red one and Hogan cuts the blue one and the timer on the bomb stops. Klink than says, why did you ask me, if you knew what wire to cut?

Hogan responds by saying, I didn't know which was the right wire to cut, but I knew who could chose the wrong one....That is the Cleveland Browns in a nutshell. Again their second pick in Ward was shocking too. A very good CB and I'm sure they thought they needed a CB, but Bradley Chubb is special and I realize the Browns have a ton of picks, but if Ward was their guy, they could have traded down IMHO.

Anyway many of us could be wrong and the Browns could be right, but again I feel for my Uncle Ron as he watches his Browns in Cold November mud.

I think Darnold will bust. I don’t see what the hype is all about. Stud as a 1st year player and when teams had time to watch film, they figured him out.

I think you will find out that USC under Clay Helton does not measure up to coaching of some of the major programs. Donald trying to put everything on himself and force plays. The talent is obvious and he's only 20...Again, JMHO. With picks you limit your risks, Donald was the least risky of them all, but Dorsey thought Mayfield reminded him of Brett Favre, so we'll see?

There's a little boy and on his 14th birthday he gets a horse... and everybody in the village says, "how wonderful. The boy got a horse" And the Zen master says, "we'll see." Two years later, the boy falls off the horse, breaks his leg, and everyone in the village says, "How terrible." And the Zen master says, "We'll see." Then, a war breaks out and all the young men have to go off and fight... except the boy can't cause his legs all messed up. and everybody in the village says, "How wonderful."

Now the Zen master says, "We'll see."

Good thing Mayfield plays football then, horses seem dangerous.
Kid has got heart, walked on to 2 programs. Played against top talent and performed well in big games.
It’s popular to rag on the Browns, I do too. But the Jets have been screwing up the draft for decades.
