With the 42nd selection in the 2017 ROD Mock Draft....the Miami Dolphins select Derek Rivers, DE, Youngstown State.

One of my favorite pass rushers in this draft, I couldn't pass him up. Some have him projected as a first round pick, some a third round pick. I'll split the difference here.

Why I like him: Rivers is a very athletic pass rusher who may be a little undersized, but he can play. He's a polished player despite his small school status, and has violent hands with numerous pass rush moves including a strong rip, swim, and a bull rush. He has the flexibility to bend the edge and turn the corner, and he's a sound run defender. He has immense upside as a player, and I think he can be a Vic Beasley type talent and a consistent 10+ sack a year player.

How he fits: Right now Rivers will play as a rotational pass rusher for the Dolphins, mostly coming in on 3rd downs where he can make plays. I predict our NASCAR package will be an exceptional success. Wake and Rivers on the outside, Hayes and Suh/Westbrooks on the inside should shine here. However, this pick is really for the future. I expect Rivers to add weight, and if he can get to 255-260 I believe he can be an every down player in our Wide 9 system where he doesn't have extended run responsibilities against large tackles. He's the eventual replacement of Cameron Wake, who doesn't have long left and should be a perfect mentor for a young pass rusher.

You can never have too many pass rushers when you are playing in the same division as Tom Brady. The more the merrier.

This game showed his athleticism, his ability to make plays in both the run and pass game, with a variety of different moves used, against quality competition. His ceiling is sky high.

Notable articles on him: http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2017/3/24/14980906/scouting-derek-rivers-the-missing-link

Real good pick! I had him more of a Late 2nd early 3rd rounder!! He had a good combine:
* 4.61-40
* Benched 30X
* 35.0 Vert
* 123.0 Broad jump
* 4.40 short shuttle
* 6.94 3-cone!!
He should go far! He could Bulk-up a bit though!

To the best of my knowledge here are the TOP 3!!
* CB - Kevin King - Washington had a 142.8
* WR - Robert Davis - Georgia State - 141.5
And
* CB - Fabian Moreau - had a 140.2
And none of them have been Drafted yet!! Hint! Hint!(y);):D

Edit Note:Watch now I will probably start a run on CB's and WR's!! And By the way TJ Watt, who I picked at #39 had a 140.4 Sparq!!

Nice :)

When you like someone enough, you have to take them even if it's considered a reach! I think he'll be one of the best players from this draft. I would have been very upset if I lost out on him. I'm banking on him putting a little weight on while he becomes a situational pass rusher for us. By year 2 he should be plenty big enough and should be able to replace Wake as a full time player. When we look back on this in a year or two, you all will be amazed at my genius :rolllaugh:

I have to agree. Sometimes, especially the 2nd and 3rd rounds can be a bit subjective in the selections, if you like a guy AND he fits your scheme - you've got to go and get him.

Meet Chris Godwin, Penn State's freakish WR who's taking over the Rose Bowl

Okay, this is just getting out of hand. Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin is having an absolutely ridiculous game against USC in the Rose Bowl. His latest brilliant play came on this amazing 72-yard touchdown catch, his second score of the night. He jumps up to get it, somehow pulls in the bobbling ball, and then spins around once his feet touch the ground before running into the end zone.

His first big play came on this amazing 30-yard touchdown that required Godwin to tightrope on the sideline of the end zone.

On PSU’s next offensive possession, Godwin somehow managed this one-handed catch that he seemed to pull in from behind his body. Seriously, I have no idea how he made this catch.

The catch even got him a shoutout from Chad Ochocinco on Twitter. Godwin entered this game with 795 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. His last touchdown was the longest of the season for him at 72 yards. Before this game started he averaged 16 yards per catch, so big plays are his thing.

The Penn State wideout came into Happy Valley as a four-star recruit from Middletown, Del., and was the No. 25 wide receiver in the country per 247Sports. Here’s a highlight video, with clips from both his high school days as well as PSU ones.

Keep on keepin’ on, Godwin.
