Budda Baker, FS, Washington

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/2139625/budda-baker

PLAYER OVERVIEW
A three-year starter at Washington, Baker played primarily as a single-high safety and in the slot as a nickel cover man for the Huskies and was an emotional trigger to the resurgence of the Washington program. He originally committed to Oregon, but re-opened his commitment and signed with Washington on signing day. Baker earned a starting safety role as a true freshman and posted 80 tackles, seven passes defended and his first career interception, earning Freshman All-American and Pac-12 Honorable Mention honors. He started 12 games as a sophomore in 2015 and recorded 49 tackles, nine passes defended and two interceptions, earning First Team All-Pac 12 honors. Baker led the Huskies in tackles as a senior (71) with 10.0 tackles for loss, eight passes defended and two interceptions to earn consensus All-American and first-team All-Pac 12 honors.

Baker is undersized and will make his share of mistakes due to overaggressive tendencies, but he competes with excellent reaction quickness and range to make plays all over the field. He is ideally suited for a hybrid cornerback/safety role in the NFL, doing his best work as a nickel defender.

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
STRENGTHS: Rangy athlete with the instant accelerator to cover a lot of green -- state champion sprinter in high school. Twitchy reflexes to stay in phase in man coverage, showing suddenness when flipping his hips and changing directions. Instinctive and quick to click-and-close on plays in front of him. Secondary burst to recover in coverage or chase down ballcarriers. Plays with a "my ball" mentality, always looking for the turnover. Good timing and burst as a blitzer to create violent collisions. Physical tackler, staying low and driving his feet as a tackler. Understands pursuit angles and field leverage to find the quickest path to the ball, avoiding blocks. Plays with a little bit of crazy to him and teammates feed off his energy. Earned All-Conference Academic honors twice and stays focused on and off the field. Undersized, but boasts trademark toughness ("He's one of the toughest guys I've ever been around." -- Huskies defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake). Productive three-year starter with 200 tackles and 24 passes defended.

WEAKNESSES: Undersized and lacks the body type to comfortably carry 200 pounds. Lack of ideal height/length shows in coverage and as a tackler, gaining body position, but missing valuable inches. Wild break down skills dent his batting average as a tackler. Overaggressive angles and needs to be more consistent with his high-to-low finishing skills. Struggles to shed once engulfed by blockers. Needs to better anticipate in coverage to stay off his heels and eliminate spacing at the top of routes. Doesn't have a large catch radius with several dropped interceptions on his film. Lack of size leads to durability concerns, missing one game as a sophomore due to a sprained left ankle (Sept. 2015) -- also left the Utah game due to a concussion (Nov. 2015).

NFL COMPARISON -- Tyrann Mathieu, Arizona Cardinals: Baker isn't quote on the same level as Mathieu, but he is cut from a similar cloth with the honey badger mentality to be a playmaker.

School: StanfordPosition: RB Class: Junior Height: 5-10 Weight: 192 lbs Projected Draft Round: 1-3

Quick Quote:
“He locates the ball quickly, shows excellent timing on his leaps and possesses the body control and soft hands to win 50-50 balls.” –Rob Rang, @robrang (8/16/16)

Scouting Report:
Not the biggest defensive back, and could be a liability in run support, but a fluid and agile coverage safety. Sees the field exceptionally well, and has the ability to lock down the deep part of the field. A true free safety that can shut down his part of the field. Makes plays all over the field.

The Tennessee Titans (with just a faint glimmer of regret after watching their board slip away) select LB Zach Cunningham - Vanderbilt.

This is a big prototypical LB with the size to take on blockers up the middle and enough speed to cover TEs. He can definitely bulk up his frame a bit, but with Wesley Woodyard having one foot out the door, the Titans can focus on easing Cunningham into the mix and making sure he's NFL ready.

I missed out on John Ross and Conley, so I'm kinda ticked about letting them slip by. Cunningham and extra ammo in the 3rd makes me feel a bit better.

@Ramrocket is up
@TK42-RAM is on deck

The 2nd round has officially begun!
This is a nice sound choice man!! He going to make a really goo ILB in my opinion! He had a nice 35.0 vert at the combine, and a 125.0 broad jump! And he has a nice 124.0 SPARQ score too, so he's smart and athletic!!(y);):D

Really nice pick! I didn't expect him to go quite yet!! He's got nice speed, 4.45-40, and he had a really nice short shuttle at 4.08 and a 6.76 3-cone drill, pretty good prospect!!(y)(y)

That's a great pick. Agonized over passing on him, believe he's an impact DB in year one. Damn OL need sigh.

Thought he'd slip to me at #49, looks like several others had me beat. I'm back to the drawing board.

With Pick 34 of the ROD Mock Draft the SanFwancisco Forty Whiners select ...

Tim Williams, OLB, Alabama

581bace537004.image.jpg

Sticking with the defensive side of the ball for the whiners -- they have so many holes in their list it's hilarious but we'll build them from the defense up and adding Tim Williams will compliment Solomon Thomas nicely.

I've made a trade with the Rams general manager. #35 for #37 and #189.

Still looking for a trade of Tashaun Gipson (FS) to any interested team. Planning on moving Jalen Ramsey to FS to compliment Jamal Adams.

With the 35th pick in the 2nd round in the ROD NFL Draft. The LA Rams select: TE Evan Engram (Ole Miss)

Evan-Engram.jpg

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/evan-engram?id=2557858

Combine:
  • 4.42 SEC
    Top Performer
  • 19 REPS
  • 36.0 INCH
    Top Performer
  • 125.0 INCH
  • 6.92 SEC
    Top Performer
  • 4.23 SEC
    Top Performer
  • 6'3"HEIGHT
  • 33 1/2"ARM LENGTH
  • 234LBS.WEIGHT
  • 10"HANDS
OVERVIEW

Ole Miss was one of the few teams in the country that utilized their athletic tight end to his full potential. The nation's most prolific tight end won first-team All-SEC and All-American accolades by catching a team-high 65 balls for 926 yards and eight scores. The two-time team captain was productive throughout his career, starting with a great freshman season (21-268, three TD) in spite of missing a month of the regular season with an ankle injury. In 2014, Engram was a first-team all-conference pick after leading the nation's tight ends with a 17.4 yards per catch average (38-662, two TD). That average dropped the following year, but league coaches still voted him second-team All-SEC (38-464, two TD).

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Good explosion over the first 5 yards of his route. Plus athletic ability with easy-opening hips. Nimble feet with quick, controlled strides into and out of his breaks. Accelerates out of his breaks to uncover from defenders for quarterback. Will have to be guarded by defensive backs. Opens quickly to find the ball. Successful working all three levels at Ole Miss. Has true vertical speed to attack the seams. Competitive, athletic runner after the catch. Springy leaper. Jumped out of the gym to snare a touchdown over the head of a Georgia defender. Able to pluck balls low, high, and behind him.
WEAKNESSES
Needs to learn when and where to sit down in the middle of the field. Must learn to do a better job of working back to the ball. Doesn't post up defenders effectively. Allows defender to work through him and disrupt the catch. Has had issues with drops and contested catches could be an issue. Allows throws to beat him up at times. Needs to do better job of selling a two-way go to the top of his routes rather than giving route direction away. Move tight end only who lacks dependability as a blocker.
NFL COMPARISON
Jordan Reed
BOTTOM LINE
Makes up for his lack of size with athletic ability and plus speed for the position. Engram has experience as a safety blanket for Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly and can work all three levels of the field. He will appeal strictly to teams looking for a move tight end who can be deployed as a chess piece in a matchup-based passing attack. Engram's ability to stress defenses could land him on Day 2 (Rounds 2-3) of the draft and a potential starting role early in his career.-Lance Zierlein

Sticking with the defensive side of the ball for the whiners -- they have so many holes in their list it's hilarious but we'll build them from the defense up and adding Tim Williams will compliment Solomon Thomas nicely.

@Memento is OTC
@Barrison is on deck.
"Damn the 49ers!!" Nice pick, I'm surprised he didn't go sooner! He had a Killer 10 yard split time at the combine of 1.66! He's going to be DANGERIOUS!!
