I don't think so... seems to me it would help tie-breaking. It would move nfc opponents from 6 to 7 out of conference and 12 to 13 total.

Odd numbers are better for tie-breaking - would clean it up quite a bit.

Just saw this in Rich Eisen today, not sure if someone else posted these deets, but man... there's a potential for a team to get SCREWED in this playoff format...

Can you imagine being the underdog and winning on Monday of Wild Card Weekend in a slobberknocker and then having to go on the road for a SATURDAY game for the next round???

Of course, all that depends on which teams and all that, but it could happen based on how it's been laid out.

I HATE, LOATHE and DESPISE a Monday night Wild Card playoff game. It's beyond unfair. Any team winning a Monday game should be mandated to play no earlier than the next Sunday, but haven't seen any stipulations about any restrictions or caveats, so until told otherwise... yeah, looks potentially ugly for some teams...

Welp, I remember when there were no Wild Card teams at all.

If you don't want to be in the position of playing on Monday night and then on Saturday Night in the playoffs, win some more regular season games

I haven't read this article but the initial reports are the 17th games will all be neutral sites to keep the competitive balance.

Like when our two homes games were in "London". That shit irked me

In all fairness, the 6 pre-season games were kinda necessary as football wasn't a year long thing... almost no players could afford to not find other work in the off-season.

So they needed to get into football shape. With fewer teams they also had way more rounds in the draft... something like 14 or more rounds. Was kinda crazy. Teams needed time to evaluate the roster.

So many unknowns back then...

Already on the agenda this year. We get the NFCN, Jared brings the Lions to SoFi while we go visit the Vikings. Side not on your other comment I didn't quote the CBA calls for a maximum of 20 games aside from playoffs. So with the 17 games the max they can have is 3 preseason and when it goes to 18 likewise down to 2 PS. With the AFC hosting the regular season game this year the NFC will host 2 PS games and AFC 1 then it swaps next year. Which means you can likely count on in 2023 or 25 an 18 game regular season.

Because the salary cap is the previous years revenue. So 2021 cap is off 2020 revenue that's why they're saying a huge jump next year because of the extra game plus fans in stadiums. Then when the new deals negotiated take affect another jump. These deals you read about aren't starting this fall. Now the Union could have negotiated instead of a drop this year and a huge jump next year a more balanced approach but quite frankly I think the people running this players union are terrible.

NFL expands regular season to 17 games, here’s what Rams fans should know

NFL owners during their virtual meeting today approved expanding the regular season to 17 games and condensing the preseason to 3 games, beginning this year.

"This is a monumental moment in NFL history," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "The CBA with the players and the recently completed media agreements provide the foundation for us to enhance the quality of the NFL experience for our fans. And one of the benefits of each team playing 17 regular-season games is the ability for us to continue to grow our game around the world."

The NFL regular season will still begin the week after Labor Day on Thursday, September 9, and end Sunday, January 9, 2022. Super Bowl LVI in the Rams House, SoFi Stadium, will take place on Sunday, February 13, 2022. The official 2021 schedule will be announced later this spring.

The home conference for the 17th game will rotate each season. For the 2021 season, the AFC will host the 17th game. This will flip in 2022 with the NFC hosting the 17th game, and so on.

Similar to how the league determines each team's two games against opponents from the two divisions in their same conference that they only play one team in on its schedule, the inter-conference matchup for the 17th game will be based on division ranking from the previous season and aligned with the rotation below on a four-year cycle:

2021: AFC NORTH – AWAY
2022: AFC EAST – HOME
2023: AFC SOUTH – AWAY
2024: AFC WEST – HOME

For the Rams, that means their 17th regular season game in 2021 will be against the Ravens – second place in the AFC North in 2020 – in Baltimore. However, in 2022, Rams Season Ticket Members will get an extra home game, at no additional cost, against the AFC East team that finishes in the same place. So get ready to host the Bills, Dolphins, Patriots or Jets!
