Kenny Britt, a go-to Rams receiver, especially wants to go to the playoffs

Gary Klein

He is the most experienced player on the Rams’ offense, an eighth-year pro seeking what thus far has proved to be an unattainable goal.

“Hopefully,” receiver Kenny Britt said. “I’ll get to the playoffs this year.”

Britt has helped the Rams to a promising start.

They are 3-1 and in first place in the NFC West heading into Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills at the Coliseum.

It’s the first of nine games against non-division opponents before the Rams finish the season against the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers andArizona Cardinals.

Like Britt, the Rams are experiencing a postseason drought. They have not been to the playoffs since 2004.

Britt, 28, is determined to end the streak.

“I have responsibilities and try to be a leader,” he said, adding, “The guys are doing everything correct. Everyone is coming in on off days, looking at film, taking care of their bodies.

“You can tell there’s determination on this team to get to the playoffs.”

The Rams began the season with major questions about a receiving corps that did not undergo a significant upgrade from 2015, when the Rams ranked last in the NFL in offense and passing offense.

They drafted receivers Pharoh Cooper in the fourth round andMichael Thomas in the sixth. Cooper has not played because of a shoulder injury and Thomas has played mainly on special teams.

Through four games, the Rams rank last in offense and 30th in passing offense.

But there have been bright spots.

Brian Quick has been the biggest surprise, catching three touchdown passes. Tavon Austin has one.

But Britt has a team-best 18 receptions and is averaging 15.6 yards per catch.

He also has been a go-to receiver on third downs.

“He’s been productive. Made some big plays for us,” Coach Jeff Fishersaid. “He has overcome some drops, like the whole group has, but he’s been productive.

“He pushed through — he’s fighting through some nagging little injury things. But he shows up. He shows up and he’s emotional and he plays hard.”

In last weekend’s 17-13 victory at Arizona, Britt was targeted four times, had four receptions and averaged 20.5 yards per catch.

Tennessee Titans when they selected Britt with the 30th pick in the 2009 draft out of Rutgers. In his second season, Britt caught 42 passes, nine for touchdowns.

But in 2011 he suffered torn ligaments in his right knee.

He had surgery again on the same knee before the 2012 season and also had an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee.

He caught 45 passes and scored four touchdowns in 2012 but caught only 11 passes and did not score a touchdown in 2013.

The Rams signed him in 2014 and, reunited with Fisher, Britt responded with a career-best 48 catches, three for touchdowns. Last season, he averaged 18.9 yards a catch and scored three touchdowns.

Britt sat out off-season workouts after undergoing shoulder and knee surgeries, but he said he has not lost speed and still feels young.

“I’ve been taking care of my body a lot better,” said Britt, who is earning about $4.5 million in the final year of his contract. “The first two or three years in the NFL, you don’t really know what to do off the field to take care of your body.

“This is my eighth year and I’m doing better than before.”

During training camp, quarterback Case Keenum said that he and Britt had developed “non-verbal communication” that enabled him to anticipate the receiver’s moves. Keenum said this week that they remained on the same wavelength.

Britt concurred.

“Case trusts me out there,” he said. “When we need a first down, he trusts me to do it.”

With opponents crowding the line of scrimmage to stop running back Todd Gurley, the Rams have been unable to run effectively. But if Austin’s production increases and Britt continues his pace, defenses will have to adjust, Boras said.

“We’re going to continue to run the ball and we’re going to get better running the ball,” Boras said. “When they’re loading the box, we’re going to try to take advantage of it and get the ball out in the perimeter in the pass game and let those guys make some plays.”

Like all receivers, Britt said, he wants to score touchdowns.

But a run to the postseason would be even better.

“We’re winning,” he said, “so it really doesn’t matter who gets them as long as we’re putting points on the board.”

Peter King: Why Sam Bradford is MVP

Seeing Bradfords success has me slightly giving a damn about the NFL again.

Harp all you want on the D, but you gotta get it done offensively as well and Bradford has been a huge reason why. That offense has done pretty well without AP. Bradford hasn't turned it over. Made the plays needed to win.

Outside of actually having a legit weapon in Diggs, it's not like he has much more to work with currently than the Rams. Heck, I'd say as a whole unit the Queens are less than the Rams.

And you can't argue the list of QBs he's beaten. If he was still a Ram and he did this, you all would be popping boners so hard you'd need medical intervention.

Are Gurley's rushing troubles due to the "stacked box"?

I went back and watched the first few running plays the Rams had on Sunday on the all 22 on game pass and I'd say it's a combination of the O line simply being outnumbered but also poor blocking.

From what I saw, Hav Wichmann and Barnes are doing ok. Unfortunately GRob has a tendency to get a couple of yards downfield but not actually block anybody.

I saw a couple of plays where Gurley ran right and even then, GRob's man from all the way over on the left hand side would be coming across unblocked to make a tackle.

I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough to be able to watch film and say whether Gurley should have chosen a different gap or should've bounced it outside. But I definitely saw the Rams being outnumbered and some poor blocking and unfortunately GRob was the main culprit for that.

Behold. Your Quarterback.

Yea I didn't know the exacts rules of both leagues until last weekend myself... I think the rule should be 3 yards for both leagues.. 1 yard is just freaking ridiculous imo...

I heard a show on the radio this week and they mentioned the college refs let the 3 yard rule slide all the time and on many occasions wont even throw a flag unless the Lineman is 5 yards down field. The NFL is flag happy and this one yard rule should be changed yesterday...

yea its really bad in college, and thats why the whole run or pass (RoP) option plays are so big right now. And 1 yard is way too short but I doubt they are that strict on in and Grob was probably only called cuz it was much more than a yard, but thats kinda to be expected in a long play like that

Thursday Night Football Time!!

How did we let these scrubs skunk us? We should be 4-0
I agree, but now I am kind of glad the Rams lost, it was an embarrassment to every fan and team member and coach and family member. This is why we are 3-1. I hope the taste of that loss haunts this team for the next ten years. If the whiners were a good team it wouldn't have been so embarrassing but watching them really makes that loss even worse, or better?

Idea to help Gurley.

The point I was trying to make is that just because your paint game is on point doesn't mean the defense can't sell out the run. Besides Tampa run game hasn't done anything. The other two wins are due to the passing game, but still no one respects it. I assume it's because our run/pass formations aren't the same.
I knew what you were saying and I think your correct, at least that's what SF 49whinners were keying off of. I still don't think there is much guessing when it comes to the defense reading our run game. There was one slick pass last Sunday out of a clear running formation that got decent yards, but not much else from what I've noticed, but I am by no means an expert, just a novice here fellow fan.

Can anyone Help, Need to know Best place to park for the Bills Game

so i'm coming from OC and i'm thinking i'd ,park at Carson Station, and Lift to the Coliseum. Parking and traffic was a nightmare at hawks game. thoughts?
See my comments above regarding Harbor Gateway station in Gardena (1 stop north?). We are leaving from Irvine this week.

Cost is $2.50 per trip and they were running twice the amount of buses on gameday. Lyft could have serious issues navigating traffic in and out of the stadium. Metro basically has access to it's own freeway lane. The lines for metro were pretty crowded after game, but settled down 30 minutes after.

So what would you do with O line?

Leave it the way it is its young and our QB has had plenty of time to throw the ball. Not all of Gurleys issues are oline related. Gurley is having some issues of his own too plus no one fears our passing game yet

The line is young. Very young.
They need to continue working together.
5 guys playing like 1. That's what we need.

I'd let them continue to develop.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I don't think the line has been all that bad. There is definite room for improvement. I'm not saying they don't need to step up and make more holes for Gurley. But the pass blocking has been quite good, and I don't think there is any line in the NFL that could consistently get push in the run game while being outnumbered nearly 2 to 1 in the box.

What this o-line needs is for Goff to develop to the point he can start, so that teams will stop stacking the box. Nobody is scared of Case Keenum. Full credit to Keenum for making just enough plays to win. But he'll never be a particularly dangerous QB, and this is the result. We also don't have a true #1 receiver. If we did, he would warrant attention even with a poor QB throwing to him. So that compounds the problem...

Leave them alone is what I'd do. It's difficult for 5 guys to block 8 or 9. You want to help them then you need to develop a passing game that threatens the defense.
Agree with ALL These....way too soon...we're at the quarter pole....how many games together do this five have? 3?? Remember Brown got some time...in two games...

I tried giving Boudreau the benefit of the doubt early on in his stint with us. He started with some God-awful players.

But since then. We are talking some high end picks that don't produce, or even regress.

I'm no OLine guru...but I've reached the point where I'd move on from Boudreau.

Hire a better O line coach.
I'm not there...YET....but I have a problem with our #2 pick, going to an O-Line guru and appearing at this moment to be much improved..G-Rob has improved, esp. his pass blocking...If that's all LeCharles Bently, we need to hire that guy...

Ref for Bills@Rams

Coleman as he relates to us....
2015 @ 49'ers....us 11 for 105, Frisco 7 for 60 - loss
2014 Vs Crudinals....us 6 for 69, them 8 for 59 - loss
2013 @ Crudinals....us 11 for 90, them 6 for 31 - loss
2012 Vs Cheatriots in England...us 12 for 102, them 8 for 42 - loss
2011 Vs Redskins us 9 for 65, them 10 for 96 - loss

I quit looking.

So, let me get this straight. You're telling me that there was actually a game where the Rams had less penalties than their opponent?

Unbelievable.

Good Morning, Coach Warner

Yes you can. You absolutely can -- and should.

When I played, 35 years ago, you were accountable for yourself. If a play failed, you were going to know if you were a part of why that play failed. Our coaches didn't worry about putting pressure on us or burdening us by holding us to a standard of excellence. I'm seeing this mama-bear philosophy creep into kids' sports more and more and more lately, and it's kinda disturbing. Why wouldn't a kid benefit from striving for, and achieving, excellence? If you're held accountable along the way, then so what? Welcome to life-prep. Because that's gonna happen a ton when you're an adult.
@-X- I tend to agree. Coaches can point out mistakes as long as they work with the kid to correct it, there isn't a reason to hide from a mistake in sports that doesn't get it fixed.

Exactly, there's no reason to not tell a kid what they did wrong. There's certainly right and wrong ways of going about that but the kid will be better off being taught than they would not. Had a coach when I started playing football that was so frustrated with me not getting low and using leverage he personally took me on with no pads on and me full pads and helmet. He kicked my ass for a good 5 minutes. Knocked me on my ass, threw me to the side with one hand grabbing my jersey, and clubbed me upside my head so hard I probably got a little concussed. I was so pissed at him, embarrassed, and felt like just walking off. But every time he told me why he beat me until one point I knocked his ass backwards and cut his lip with my helmet. He got up smiling and screamed "that's how you kick someone's ass" and it's one of those moments I look back on with pride. I never got knocked over again after that day and I'm thankful for it.

Course today, if a coach did that to a kid he'd probably be fired and sued by the parents.

Between the Horns: Game recap, Bills preview, & what not to say about AD99

In the third episode of Between the Horns, Rams insider Myles Simmons and Super Bowl Champion DT D'Marco Farr discuss the Rams' 17-13 victory over the Cardinals, the state of LA's offense and defense through four games, preview the upcoming matchup against the Bills, and talk why it might not be a good idea to disparage DT Aaron Donald.

LeSean McCoy: "They're a fast group."

LeSean sounds like he's looking past the Rams, to their Following weeks divisional game. BIG mistake looking past your present opponent!! The Rams will Kick your Tail if you don't watch out! Donald and Brockers will crush you IF you try coming up the middle on them!!
I noticed that too, "the next game is the one that really matters," well that aint the case with LA Baby, this game is THE only one that matters, you lose. Nothing like leaving a mental excuse to lose a game when things don't go your way.

Rams Defense

Ogletree is the main run stopper for this D. Once he stops taking two steps back on run plays and trusts his instincts and reads more, that will improve. Hopefully he can get perfectly settled into his new position real soon. Either way I agree this defense is on the rise, still room for improvement, lots of football to go. Keep getting those turnovers, that's been huge so far, it has to continue. I Absolutely love this Defense and it's potential for getting even better. Also keep those hard hits coming, teams hate playing our d because of that.

SNISHER OL Drafting Issues

wow - what is it with Rams fans and seeing something half empty all the time - I know we've been ranked #31 by PFF this week (https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro-ranking-all-32-nfl-offensive-lines-entering-week-5-2/) between the Seahawks (3-1) and the Vikings (4-0) but then again the Titans (1-4).

I really think we're doing ok considering how much the opposition are stacking the box, our QB isn't being driven into the ground like past QBs have, Case hasn't been sacked too often (8 - I think) remember the hits Sam used to take, or that hit on Floes at GB - ok, so our run game isn't clicking (yet) you can't put that down to the O-line alone.

GRob has improved this offseason, even though he still has his haters. I like our young o-line, IMO, they'll only get better.
Our o-line has not held their blocks long enough for Gurley to make it one step past the line of scrimmage on average. The blocking schemes are good, our guys are getting physically dominated consistently across the board, except for Havenstien, but he sucks because he can't block 9 guys at once. The o-line is going to have to play better, there is no reason for this! Too many mental mistakes and not physical enough, they are getting their asses handed to them play after play.

Ranking all 32 NFL offensive lines entering Week 5

OMG it's not even a comparison how Ogletree looks at the opposing QB and is given a personal foul! It's f'n ridiculous! I screamed at my TV for 10 f'n minutes after the last one! I can rant one this for 12 years...

Anyways, I don't know about Robinson, that dude is below par in everything, pass and run blocking. I actually thought he was better the last several years as a run blocker than pass blocking but this year it seems he's getting beat like a drum and for a #2 overall pick that's donskies. I really think in a phone booth which is a guard position he might be able to dominate with his size. Just seems like the guy really hasn't developed much from what they hoped he would be, not even close.

I just haven't seen that in pass pro this year. He's been solid imo. I think he's improving. The run blocking? Yeah. It's hard to understand how he's seemingly regressed. I've seen him whiff on too many blocks this year.
