The more I think about how people (including myself) weren't really giving much value to experience.

I didn't look up all the exact numbers but.

only 3 2nd year QB's have won a super bowl (warner, big ben, brady)
No rookie QB has ever won a super bowl.

Only 2 first year coaches in the history of the super bowl era have ever won one. (2 in 50 years)

We had a great young team.. but if you really look at it reasonably. It almost never happens.

It also makes me realize what a miracle team the 1999 team was.

Totally agree, but damn I thought we'd be gearing up for the Vikes right now. Really surprised we tanked it today. Next to impossible to top GSOT 1999, but this season was a damn fun one...

they were playing to WIN down the stretch...we took a week off and let Jimmy G. blow us out...

not experience...chemistry....biggest mistake of the season for McVay...I bet he learned a valuable lesson.

I don't think one serious team rested starters....not one....

Four serious teams rested their starters this week.

I don't think experience is nearly as big of a deal as some claim. The Chiefs have playoff experience. The Titans did not. The Chiefs still choked away a 21-3 lead. The Falcons simply outplayed us today.

lots of experience on that team. one of the best QB's as well. cant have turnovers in big games. team strengths (special teams) cant become weaknesses in big games. cant wait 27 minutes to get it going in a playoff game. maybe next season.

Funny....

You are allowed to "rest"...when it is "earned"...by value of finishing with the TOP 2 records in a conference...AFC...or NFC....

In week 17, which of those 4 rested anyone then? I'll wait....

that was interesting....but they played Cleveland....

Still, according to your theory, that should hurt them as by not playing starters, they lose chemistry.

We’ll see, I guess

Champ you have some good thoughts, but last week had absolutely no bearing on tonight's game..3rd and 2 in the first quarter and we try a dumb pass play when we should have given it to Gurley. Our Special Teams played last week and you have to admit that they were a big part of our loss today. Bones is awesome, but Cooper's fumble and not calling off the other guys on the first fumble played a key role....never expected special teams to be a reason we lost

Really? So when you "earn" the rest, it doesn't make you rusty? That's really great logic.

This narrative of ‘rest’ i keep hearing is completely wrong. We didn’t rest our players, we sat them so they wouldn’t be injured in a meaningless game. It’s not like we said ‘hey, good job guys, you’ve worked hard - have a day off’. It’s two completely different things.

The week off had nothing to do with this loss. This looked like a young, inexperienced team in the first half. Still had a chance to win it though. ST was a killer. Goff was throwing lasers out there. Gotta make the catches.

This is pure supposition on your part.

There is no evidence to support this guess.
They might have beat us 30-10 if we didn't rest the starters.

You don't KNOW one way or the other.

Not sure how you can say experience isn't really that big a deal...

I do KNOW that the cohesion, continuity, and chemistry would have continued to get better....rather than stall or regress, which is what I saw last night. Dude was continually throwing passes behind receivers...even his completions were off.

You don't know either....what's your point?

What we do know....IS 29 for 45....or somewhere around there....in a playoff game....at home...with a young team...

While I don't like the Pats...it would be wise to mimic what they do....Bill didn't REST his players, neither should we.

If you're not taking practice reps...and you're healthy....you are essentially "resting"...if you're not taking snaps in a game...you are essentially "rest"...just like saying....you've played hard all season...one more game to go...but you (insert players that didn't play) take a rest. Don't see why this is even an argument/debate...they rested selected players...intentionally...they rested guys that would have played otherwise. All games have meaning for young teams...especially for the offense...Hell, we shoulda used that game to get Watkins and Goff on the same page. AND, keep that intensity ramped up....by competing vs a rival.

Don't we have enough threads about resting the starters?
