There's not much the 49ers fanbase is saying these days so here's something from our own fanbase, plus comments from a few of the 49ers faithful. This is how bad things have gotten for both teams, arguing about which one is worse.
Btw it appears that ROD is not the only Rams site that has the "realists" vs. the homers arguments going on. The author, 3k, gets totally trashed in 283 comments for being a "realist." These are just a few of the comments. To read all of them click the link below.

Who's Worse, The St. Louis Rams Or San Francisco 49ers?
By 3k @3k_

Why the San Francisco 49ers are worse than the St. Louis Rams
By David Fucillo, Manager of Niners Nation
I'm surprised I even need to spell this out. Rams fans are stuck with Jeff Fisher for at least one more year, so I understand the general frustration of mediocrity. For 49ers fans though, the franchise appears to be bottoming out to a certain degree.
The team lost some major leaders on both sides of the ball last year, but the problems start up top. Depending on who you want to believe, CEO Jed York and possibly GM Trent Baalke forced out head coach Jim Harbaugh because they did not like his abrasive personality.
The team conducted a search, but Jim Tomsula's promotion capped off months of speculation that he was the guy York wanted as head coach. We'll never know exactly what happened behind closed doors, but when the speculation turns into facts a few months later, it's hard to not believe it all.
There were plenty of doom-sayers when Tomsula was hired, but some folks (including yours truly) tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. However, as we head into the season finale, it seems pretty clear Tomsula is in over his head.
The team makes few if any in-game adjustments, lineup changes comes long after they should have happened, and the team seems entirely undisciplined and unprepared on a weekly basis.
It would seem like this is a recipe for Tomsula to get fired, but right now it seems like he will be back in 2016. Firing Tomsula would require Jed York to admit he was wrong to a certain degree a year ago. I just don't see that acknowledgement happening quite yet.
I think Tomsula gets a reprieve, but more than likely ends up getting canned midway through the 2016 season. And so, we're basically left waiting for 2017 to arrive before any hope for the future.
And all that assumes Jed York and Trent Baalke (assuming he too hasn't been canned) are able to find a coach that is willing to join this franchise. I think it's possible this thing improves down the road, but it's just hard to drum up any optimism at this point.
Why the St. Louis Rams are worse than the San Francisco 49ers
By 3k, Manager of Turf Show Times
I'll answer this two ways.
In the short-term, I think it's closer than many think. While the gap looks pretty large, I think the Niners have bottomed out. It may not get better quickly, but there isn't much room to sink lower than where you guys are at now. The Rams, though, don't show much evidence of getting better than they have in recent years.
That the Rams have won their last three games is more a function of who they played (against the
Detroit Lions and
Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and the pure fluctuation of horrible football and very good football that defines Fisherball (against the
Seattle Seahawks).
So it's just very hard to say the Rams are worse as it stands today...
but...
The Niners could fix it.
If San Francisco has bottomed out, or is anywhere close to doing so, they've got nowhere to go but up. The Rams? With Jeff Fisher at the helm, they're poised for a multi-year run of that juicy spot in between being good and being bad that offers just enough hope to stave off any real improvement or depreciation.
The Rams went 7-9 in 2012 with an offensive line gumbo of Rodger Safflold,
Wayne Hunter,
Shelley Smith,
Quinn Ojinnaka, Robert Turner,
Scott Wells,
Harvey Dahl and
Barry Richardson, a WR corps of
Danny Amendola,
Brandon Gibson and
Chris Givens and a QB/RB combo of
Sam Bradford and
Steven Jackson.
Jeff Fisher spent the last three years improving that offense by -1,000 passing yards and 100 rushing yards.
It's not...getting..better.
So long-term, it's less a matter of who's worse than who has a chance to get better.
The Niners could improve things and be less ungood. The Rams,
especially with reports suggesting Fisher is under no real threat to lose his job after four years of ungood football, are stuck with ungood as long as they'll force themselves to be.
There's light at the end of the tunnel for the Niners.
The Rams are parked on the side of road inside the tunnel marveling at their new, shiny rims with everyone impressed that sometime soon, the car will be going very, very fast.

Seriously what the f*** is wrong with you
Why are you writing these terrible articles. We destroyed them the first time we played and it’s happening again.
Oh they have better draft position that must be better.
----------
I almost skipped reading it and jumped to the comments, if fact I looked at some other stuff before saying the hell with it and clicking on the stupid article!
But I did read it and must say, I am no better off for having done so! Justt a bit of advice 3k, never put your name on a article titled why the Rams are worse than the 9’ers, even if they were, which they obviously are not!
--------
Rams fans say that EVERY year
Sorry man, it’s never gonna happen with Fisher.
---------
Not sure why you needed so many words to say "The 49ers"
We suck more than you do. Get over it.
--------
This just in
3k is still a joke
---------
The 49ers are the worst team in football
but are the Rams jealous that we have Blaine Gabbert?
---------
The Rams
would have to get a helluva lot worse to be as bad as the Niners. The scary thing for Niners fans is most of us don’t think our GM is capable of making the draft picks that would make them better. Or the coaching staff to make his draft picks better. It’s kind of a lose-lose situation.
Don’t get me going about the owner.
--------
So, Fish has been there 4 years now. The last time the Niners had a HC with 4 years under his belt and a 8-8 record he got fired. Of course, he was regressing. With Fisher the 8-8 record the Rams will have late Sunday afternoon will be an improvement.
-------
The Rams suck, but the Niners are the worst team in football (maybe American pro sports sans the Sixers)
Rams are mediocrity personified, destined to get 6 to 8 wins a year under the boring Jeff Fisher. Niners are a cellar dweller whose ceiling is 4-5 wins.
We both suck. We should get drinks sometime.
--------
I see a Rams win but 49ers do play better at home
Only 1 of those wins was an away game (the Bears). I think you guys win this game, especially after watching the last 3 Rams games as I’ve seen improvement. The team is looking better and better in my opinion but who knows if that will translate to next year for you guys. I do think this game may be a close one because the 49ers play much better at home defensively.
In fact I think all 49ers fans were shocked that the 49ers defense held the Cardinals to only 19 points…the only problem was the 49ers offense could only score 13 points which is generally around what they average a game.
The 49ers at home have actually only allowed over 20 points at home once all season (24 against the Bengals) but if you can score 18 points or more you’re probably set for a win. Regardless the Rams are definitely the better team and SHOULD win this game but you never know.
---------
Oh for f***s sake
Do us all a favor 3k, if the Rams do indeed move to LA, please stay behind with the EJD and the old colors and logo…
We’ll all be better off.
---------
Being from San Francisco...
Hating the Rams is genetic – Where ever they hail from – I would not be surprised if the reverse is true. But…I’ve been a long-time fan of Jeff Fisher. Creates a bit of a bind. I still enjoy hating the Rams (in a fan sense – No real hatred) but I don’t know what the deal is with Fisher.
He has not been able to get the Rams anywhere near as good as their personnel. The roster is a good 2-3 games better than the results. Is there discord with the Front Office? Has Fisher lost the locker room? Or has Fisher simply lost it?
----------
Just making a point
That being from the sf area doesn’t mean you hate the Rams. Plenty of Rams fans here.
---------
"Mr. 3K, what you've just said...
Is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone who read this article is now dumber for viewing it. I award you no points, and may Snead have mercy on your soul."
-------
I'd rather not waste my time pointng out the litany of reasons why I believe 3K
Is acting like an overly whiny, cynical, crybaby. The article in and of itself is a joke, so I figured the manner in which I replied was appropriate.
---------
didnt you know
that on TST you’re always supposed to be positive and never be mean to people…..
--------
I stopped reading here: "The Rams, though, don't show much evidence of getting better than they have in recent years."
As if winning in Seattle isn’t evidence of getting better. I’m never vocal about your writing 3k, and I believe some may take it a little to far in criticizing you, but this is just ridiculous.
---------
There's light at the end of the tunnel for the 49ers?
Blaine Gabbert is their best quarterback and the QB’s in this upcoming draft are a joke. They average 14.6 ppg which is worst in the league. Aside from Anquan Boldin (who might walk after this year) their best receivers are Torrey Smith and Quinton Patton. Carlos Hyde is perpetually injured. Defensively they are just as bad, 29th in the league in YPG. Aside from Navarro Bowman everyone on the defense is sorry. And to top it all off their head coach is a bozo who looks like a real life version of Mario.
I tend to agree with the majority of the stuff you post on here even if most of it is cynical. But "there’s light at the end of the tunnel for the 49ers" is laughable and you should feel embarrassed for even suggesting that.
---------
I'm obviously a 49ers fan but I watch pretty much all of the "A football life" episodes
My favorite Rams one is Kurt Warner, although obviously some of it is with the Giants and Cardinals later but such an amazing story. That greatest show on turf team for a few years was incredibly good.
--------
The 49ers have been on the way down since Bill Walsh left
and Carmen Policy was exposed as a gangster snake oil salesman. The ‘story’ is that they’ve been in the toilet for years but got lucky with the Jim Harbaugh hire, until Harbaugh realized he was dealing with idiots and left. As soon as he did, it’s back to the toilet again – which is where it will remain until the owners sell and leave.
The Rams have been in the toilet since Georgia Frontier took over with their own lucky exception of the Warner miracle years. As soon as Warner left it was back to the toilet – which is where it would have remained had Georgia continued running the team.
However – a few years ago Kronke took over and the Rams have been trending upward ever since. Gone are the shit assistant coaches, gone are the cutbacks to the scouting area, gone are the ‘hugs from mom’ on the sideline (thank God), and ever since died (no offense, just being factual) the Rams have won more games and shown more improvement than they previously showed in over a decade.
I’m sorry but ‘ding-dong’ the wildebeest is dead meaning after the Rams destroy the Niners they’ll have their best record in a decade even though multiple starters were unavailable due to injury – who’ll all be back next year. You combine that with Les Snead’s AMAZING drafts = next year the Rams will finally break through and end the playoff drought.
So the answer is simple. The Niners are shit meaning the toilet is where they belong.
--------
I liken this Rams team to the 49ers team
Just before the Niners made there last playoff & Super Bowl run. A great defense and running game with timely QB play. The Rams have a very nice young core of players who are coming into their prime years. The draft from this point is extremely important, on Defense Rams will need a DE & MLB, if the Rams resign there prime starters then hit on more picks this team has a chance to grow into a very good team.
There’s always steps for a young ball club before becoming a good team, Rams are that close, offensive line & rb will be together again next season, very excited for next season, very excited 3k no matter how negative some are on this site. This Rams team has potential, just need a bit of LUCK in this game
--------
Believe it or not, we still have a faction (albeit very small one).....
….that still supports the moves Jed York has made and thinks firing Harbaugh was a good move. Most of us believe our silver spooned, wannabe Jerry Jones/Mark Zuckerberg combo of a dipshit owner is paying people to go on social media and defend him. It’s the only thing that makes sense at this point.
But yes, the vast majority of us have rallied to one side despite the small band of rebels opposing us. But to be fair, if your team went out and fired the all time 5th winningest coach in NFL history after only four years, did so one year after getting a new stadium built off that coaches success and suckering a billion dollars from the fans and taxpayers,
and then replaced him with the cheapest option he could find (a guy that thinks "ludicroust" and "pomp and stance" are words) and watched the team burn to the ground immediately all the while your owner compared this new coach to the Warriors hiring steve Kerr, it’s pretty hard for everyone to not flip the fuck out.
And this is only about 1/3 of the stupidity that has occurred in the last year. We made trading Gruden or firing Jimmy Johnson look like minor missteps. The shit that has happened this year is legendary in its stupidty. No NFL team will ever be able to repeat the shit we did this year in such a short time span.
It’s like we took two decades of the Cleveland Browns and compressed them into 12 months.
--------
This was the second interview he did when he got hired
If you’ve got 4 minutes, watch it. And his first press conference wasn’t much better. From day one, we knew we were completely fucked. And keep in mind, our owner had been FANTASIZING about promoting this guy to HC for at least 5 years
http://deadspin.com/new-49ers-coach-jim-tomsula-mumbles-and-huffs-his-way-t-1680004518
We have seriously never heard him out together a coherent sentence, much less thought, in the last year. There is no way he can get magically better talking to management. His postgame speeches to the players are just as baffling.
---------
The 49ers are cellar dwellers for the next decade..
We are useless!!!
From the Ho to the Cs to Blaine Freaking Gabbert, there is little to no hope..
It’s nice that some of you guys believe in your coach but Imo Jeff Fischer is your weak link and won’t be taking you guys anywhere near the promised land..
---------
This is like bizarro Niners Nation
Over there, if you’re remotely positive, you get killed. Over here, if you’re remotely negative, you get killed.
WE’RE NOT SO DIFFERENT YOU GUYS
---------
you have the negative nancy's here tho. and we have realists
--------
"Realists"
I knew I liked you guys for a reason! We had the negative nancy versus realist debate for a long time with offseason. Funny part is those of us predicting a 6 win season were called Pessimists but we referred to ourselves as realists.
The irony is now looking back on it, we were actually optimists.
