You're a stats guy right tavian....what's his ypc average? guess what...he averages 1 drop a game...just like....hmmm, who would that be:thinking:
Brian Quick doesn't create enough stats to bother keeping up with them.
1Drop a game out of how many targets. You must be talking about preseason.
I liked Quick but I'm afraid he has missed the boat.Unless something changes quickly.

Goff just needs a ton more reps. Can't coach that release or footwork. The game will slow down almost always does lets just hope it is sooner than later. To those calling him a disappointment or underwhelming after last nights game you are being way to hard on him in my world.
A 113 quarterback rating in game 2 for a rookie who had thrown less than 15 live action NFL passes is not disappointing in my world

I'll say this about Quick and those 2 drops-----He's fighting for his football career with the Rams and that's not the way you "impress" the coaching staff. As a veteran receiver, who hasn't shown much, he has to help out his rookie qb and make those catches even in preseason. Right now, on a 3rd down, you just cannot trust the guy to make the catch and move the chains. I love Quick's blocking ability but his 1st responsibility is to catch the damn ball. If he does not make this team, it's all on him.

In my opinion I feel like Fisher should give nearly a whole game to Goff either this week or next. Let him settle in, get comfortable. If anyone needs reps, it's him.

Agree IMO it's not a fair QB competition if only 1 QB gets the most reps with the better talent.

Lets see Goff with Britt, Kendricks (who's been getting open and catching the ball), Cooper and Gurley n crew.

Hmmm, Damarius Thomas from Denver...you getting rid of him because of drops? Or, Ted Ginn...you cutting him for drops? Okay, here's an easy one...DHB (Heywood-Bey)...the fast guy from the Raiders...he's with the Steelers...ran the 4.2, and Al Davis had to have him...He drops it too...Why do the Steelers have him in camp?? Drops happen...it takes time...plus, you have to become adjusted to a new QB...you'll know when there's a real problem...We aren't there yet...
Glad you ended with Cook...Our own Jared Cook...Best receiving option we had...released...but signs with...Aaron Rodgers...McCarthy...Green Bay Packers...Dropper..in your eyes...right??? Why would Rodgers want Cook???

Exactly....get your head around...no other way to explain it...bet he learns...bet he gets better...Something a lot of the wr's on the team CAN'T say for sure...Check his stat line...You're a stats guy right tavian....what's his ypc average? guess what...he averages 1 drop a game...just like....hmmm, who would that be:thinking:

Trust me....hard workers are really consistent in getting better...you can't coach 6'3, 220....He needs the work with Goff....Can you tell that he and Keenum throw entirely different balls?

I hope you arent telling me you would be happy with DHB or Ted Ginn on this team. DHB is terrible and only still in the NFL cuz his speed, theres a reason he doesnt get much pt or balls thrown his way. And Ginn is a pretty terrible WR himself. Sure he had a good year but it wasnt because of his skills, it was Cam and the coaching/scheme. Not to mention how much better he and the panthers offense would have been if he didnt have a bad case of butterfingers. Theres a reason he was basically nothing but a return specialist most of his career. And I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope you did not just compare Damarius Thomas to Quick.

If drops are 'easily fixable', how come we're having this discussion about a WR who's had 4+ yr to fix it....and apparently hasn't.

Catching the ball is not hard at all, and I dont think its that hard to help teach someone how to catch better, but they gotta put in the work. Its not like you can just spend a few hrs and you magically have stick'em hands. And the fact that we're having this discussion about a WR whos had 4+ yrs to fix it is exactly why he probably shouldnt be on the team anymore

I'm surprised at YOU Ole School...I know Jrry is leading his merry pack to wield pitchforks & torches to burn any 2nd round pick that hasn't scored 10 td's...but this game is like a battle of attrition...Only the strong survive...One game doesn't make you..it's just a part of the story. Chapter 2...Lets see ch. 3 with the new stud QB...We may all be surprised who rises next vs. Denver.

Quick had an entire rookie contract to make an impact. He didn't. Quick continues to not do anything to stand out. I'd rather have a guy who hasn't been invisible throughout his 4-year career.

Well, I totally forgot that Bradford sucked in the first two. That makes me feel a bit better.

Now, let's go get Goff a ton of reps with the 1s in Game 3. Keenum doesn't need it. Make Goff the starter for that game.
What would you say to a rotation of GoFF then Mannion then Keenum in the Denver game!?!;):Do_O

I'm trying to explain how some pretty good receivers are making some pretty good careers, even tho they themselves continue to be plagued by unfortunate drops....Cuz his speed??Had a good year, but it wasn't because of HIS SKILLS???? what, what...what is that supposed to mean? How much better can 15-1 be? oh 16-0...and Superbowl champs...Ginn didn't have any impact on the Panther season...Speed kills...it stretches the field...maybe they wouldn't have went 15-1 if he WASN'T on the team...I'm sure he helped them win several games. The reason he was being regulated to returns is maybe some silly coach didn't know how to USE him properly...And yeah, I just compared our 6'3, 220 lb wr to another 6'3, 220 lb wr...the only difference being, he played with some really good OC's that knew how to use him with some decent QB play...And at this point, Tebow...Tim Tebow, has outperformed EVERY QB we've suited up in the last 5 years...except Sam Bradford....Another guy EVERYBODY ON HERE WANTED TO GET RID OF FOR NO GOOD REASON.

Quick had an entire rookie contract to make an impact. He didn't. Quick continues to not do anything to stand out. I'd rather have a guy who hasn't been invisible throughout his 4-year career.
Hard to make an impact jrry when you're running Canadian League caliber QB's out there....Next thing you'll be saying is, Jared Cook's been invisible too...Tavon's been invisible...Sted Bailey's been invisible...oh wait...they have...and guess what, they can all play...

Hitting a golf ball is FAR easier. But there's only a select few who can do it at a very high level.

I'm not defending Quick. IMO, he should be on the bubble. But I think you're grossly underestimating the difficulty it takes to be good at the job and requires much more than just 'putting in the work'. You even mentioned in your previous msg how many 'butterfingers' you see in the NFL. If it's easily fixable, I guess too many WR's aren't putting in the necessary work.

I'm trying to explain how some pretty good receivers are making some pretty good careers, even tho they themselves continue to be plagued by unfortunate drops....

But they arent good receivers nor have they had good careers.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/12570/darrius-heyward-bey He had 1 (you can argue 2) decent seasons out of 7, Thats not a good career imo. Not to mention the other 5 years he had less than 30 recs in each one. yea good stuff.

His career averages per season are: 27.6 rec 389.6 yards 2 tds

http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/10453/ted-ginn-jr Now he was better than DHB but still nothing to brag about. out of 9 seasons, he only had over 500 yards in 3 of them, 2 of which were with the panthers. Now he did have 2 more seasons with 400 yards, but he also had 4 seasons with under 225 yards including 1 season that he had 2 rec for 1 yard total.

His career averages per season are: 28.3 rec 392.6 yards 2.3 tds

I dont get what you think is good about either of those guys stats, but to each his own I guess.

Cuz his speed??Had a good year, but it wasn't because of HIS SKILLS???? what, what...what is that supposed to mean?

Theres been plenty of players over the years that had good years thanks to the system and/or their team more so than to their own skills, exhibit A being ginn

How much better can 15-1 be? oh 16-0...and Superbowl champs...Ginn didn't have any impact on the Panther season...Speed kills...it stretches the field...maybe they wouldn't have went 15-1 if he WASN'T on the team...I'm sure he helped them win several games.

exactly my point, he was on a good team, and I didnt say he didnt have any impact but he wouldnt be even in the top 15 reason why they were good and went 15-1. And maybe they dont go 15-1 without him, but I bet they still finish where they did when its all said and done

The reason he was being regulated to returns is maybe some silly coach didn't know how to USE him properly...

Hes regulated to returns cuz thats what hes good at and teams had other and better options at WRs. And I dont dispute his success at WR is coupled by how coaches use him, which is why I dont think its a coincidence 2 of his best 3 years where with the panthers ( a great coaching staff) but good WRs arent products of systems/coaches.

And yeah, I just compared our 6'3, 220 lb wr to another 6'3, 220 lb wr...the only difference being, he played with some really good OC's that knew how to use him with some decent QB play...And at this point, Tebow...Tim Tebow, has outperformed EVERY QB we've suited up in the last 5 years...except Sam Bradford....Another guy EVERYBODY ON HERE WANTED TO GET RID OF FOR NO GOOD REASON.

Their measurables are the only thing they have in common. Not only is Thomas a far superior route runner, but even though he may have a lot of drops he more than offsets them with the number of catches he does make, something that cant be said for quick.

Hitting a golf ball is FAR easier. But there's only a select few who can do it at a very high level.

Im not sure what hitting a golf ball has to do with anything here, but ill play along. If you can go to a driving range right now and drive 300 yards, you can go to a pro course and still drive 300 yards. Playing at a higher level isnt gonna make you forget how to hit a golf ball. And if you're trying to compare that to catching a football, no matter the level you're playing at, the mechanics to catching a football are still the same. The only the difference is the size of the ball and speed of the pass, and its something you should be able to adjust to as an NFL WR

I think playing WR in the NFL is a very tough job, but thats not what Im saying. Im talking about 1 part, which of that whole job which is probably the easiest and thats to catch a football. They have been doing it for 10+ years, and aside from the speed of the ball nothing has changed. Not saying that drops shouldnt happen because even the GOAT dropped passes, but as an NFL WR drops should be a low number for you and if you're known more for your drops than your catches you probably arent very good, which IMO is exactly where Quick is at right now

I think you guys on the "underwhelmed" by Goff list need to understand, Goff needs as many reps as possible. Keenum looks ready to be the starting day game manager if necessary, but Goff needs to shake off college tendencies a little, and get comfortable in a game....the whole game. If he fails in some areas, he needs to do it in games that don't matter, against other teams defenses other than the Rams D. Of course he's not ready at this very moment to start, but with every rep he takes, he will get closer to that day of being the NFL's next franchise QB. Mannion's future is probably as a perrenial back up, so he can just cool his jets.

He had 1 (you can argue 2) decent seasons out of 7
Heyward-Bey played 7 seasons.....
out of 9 seasons
Ted Ginn played 9.....

My point....the average NFL career last 3 years...I'd guess it'll be less in 10 more years...so, both of these guys have doubled their career lifespans....Ginn has tripled it...No matter you slice it...that's good football baby. And to further my point, you state the main reason for a receiver's success below...
Theres been plenty of players over the years that had good years thanks to the system and/or their team more so than to their own skills,
Pretty much all these guys have talent. Receivers are in a special category imo...Because of systems, and QB's, they are dependent on others whether they are ultimately successful... They can be as great as the I-Pad...but if they don't get used, and used correctly, no one will know their name....

good WRs arent products of systems/coaches.
Now you are directly contradicting yourself....Pretty much all the NFL players are good. Systems & coaching can make them shine and be/appear great...

The more I look at the game...I'm pretty sure Quick will be targeted early and often versus the Broncos. He remains one of our few wideouts that are a matchup problem, and is often open because of the way defenses play him. If he fails to deliver to the coaches expectations, I will concur that his roster spot is in danger. I personally feel he'll ball out...He just needs to get used to Goff, and his velocity...

well now I understand the reason for our different views. You seem quite okay with a wr thats good enough to be in the league for more than 3 years even if he that means they rely on a certain coach/scheme for them to give you even just decent production. Personally, Im tired of having a WRs that would be lucky to get even just 700 yards, let alone 1000 like most teams have. I like my WRs to be legitimate playmakers that help the team win and other teams would love to have, but to each his own I guess

I've often said, stats can lie...I use them anyway to make a point...But stats do lie....Mohamad Sanu...what was his last season? Hell, go to the other guy that left Cinnci, Marvin Jones....Go to D. Jackson...If you looked at their stats from last season, you'd think they were incapable of reaching 1000 yards, or in D-Jax case, on the downhill of a pretty average career. I could go to many players...Kenny Stills...Brandon Cook, Marcus Wheaton...too many to name...good players...just needed the right system...Two more...lets go SC....Marquis Lee, and the dude at Buffalo...good players...check out a guy at NE...known as 7-11...good player...all he needed was a system. Not luck a system, and a coordinator that believes in them...You must think Kenny Britt is just a player? Naw, that guy is a beast...Just needs a system.

Now, he's running with Goff...and still not catching the ball.
Touche....patience young Jedi....Checking out Denver right now...maybe it'll be Quick's day...maybe not...
