Gurley doesn't look anything other than average. I would not go into next year thinking he will turn into a 1200 plus yard guy and 10 plus TDs. Bring in some competition to push him and someone you could see taking the job from him if he isn't ready. I got scolded for suggesting David Johnson might be on Gurley's level or better. No question Johnson is better when you watch both week in and week out. Gurley has no agility and no power this year. He better find some motivation or he's just a first round Zac Stacy after 2017. I railed on SJ39 for being unimpressive, he was miles better than Gurley on bad teams. No excuses when you reach this level, you produce or you don't. Outside factors can influence your numbers, but play makers make plays. Todd ain't making any plays.

Gurley looks like a disgruntled employee that has lost his passion .

The same O line except healthier, had no problem generating running lanes last year. This year apparently nothing. I'm not saying it is Gurley's fault, but I would like to see a whole game with another back make a judgment as to whether he may be part of the problem. Last year I remember so many runs where I was in awe as he made something out of nothing. This year I only have one or two runs where I have been impressed and viewed his run as elite level. Last year it was at least 1 or 2 times a game where he made me feel there wasn't other backs that could make a run. I feel it is worth a look.

I can tell you right now.....it's also Gurley.
No question, he's partly at fault.

Gurley has lost something. He looks smaller, slower, less powerful and showing less vision. Could be some of the beating he takes every week. He needs a off season workout program to get him back on track.

Any of you who agree with this OP should have his head examined. Sure. TG has took the wrong non hole some times this season. But so many of the plays he has his line pushed back. Look, if he had Elliots line he would be AHEAD of him in yardage because he is the more talented runner.
Gurly has beat his head in this horrible O lines so called holes so many times this year it has gotten to him some.
What, do you want to piss him off so he pulls a trade demand.

Even a mediocre RB could have busted more than two runs of 20+ yards in a full season being the featured back.

Barber said it perfectly earlier. It's also him.

Wooooo

There is a guy called Skip Peete !!!!
Could be the big difference.

Gurley is but a fraction of what I hoped after last year. Just another second year back to drastically underperform year 2. I am retaining hope but not as much optimism!

Yeah, I got ripped for defending David Johnson on here last year AND this year. Lolz. I never understood the Gurley pick personally. I actually like Melvin Gordon better, but oh well.

Seriously though, I have not seen much from TG since the middle of last year. Same could be said for the rest of this offense however. So sad. We better hope TG finds his game (not to mention passion FOR his game) or he will be another one (half) year wonder.

The only sense that's it's him is he is so beat up that he is a shell of his self.

Thats what happens when an archaic coach runs a back to the ground behind a bad oline.

The coach isn't telling him to run straight into his own guys, as in right in the back sometimes. He isn't "beat up".

@Ram65 he lost 17 pounds in the offseason. I've been saying for awhile he looks like a guy who has a bad flu virus, sluggish and weak compared to normal. Something is up.

Lost weight and looked slower, that is for sure, in fact, there a times it seemed he was one step away. Gurley's position coach was changed too and I did not understand why the Rams made a change there. Ben Sirmans IMO actually did a good job with the Running Backs, however, when they brought in Groh, they hired Peete too who was unemployed, but had a very good resume.

Overall, Gurley is very frustrated like many of us, but help is on the way, IMO, the new Head Coach will actually be able to spell offense, let alone run one. Add in new coaches across the board and hopefully things will start trending upward because God knows that although we don't take the hits like Gurley, we have fans have been dealing with this futility for much longer than he has.

This team quit weeks ago. Going to have to wait and see if the new regime can get them back into it.

So the same coach that coached up several rookies and effectively established the run with them despite injuries, suddenly failed to coach them this with all of them returning and adding a healthy Saffold too! I for one think it is a combination and Gurley has also underperformed compared to his efforts last year.

It's also what opponents are doing. They saw all the film from last year and prepared accordingly. They know we don't have a passing game and so every defense makes Gurley the #1 priority. I'm not saying Todd is playing his best football right now, cause he's not. But watch the film, the holes from last year aren't there this year.

This stems from Boras and his play design as well. IMO the biggest problem with the O is his play design and selection. It's as big of a problem as the talent an OL playing badly put together.

This team has good enough talent on O to be middle of the pack with someone that can design and call plays better.

Well, we are about to find out because the new Head Coach will will have a flair for offense and I don't care about the rumors about Rivera, we all know the next Head Coach will either be Asshole Face or Kyle Shanahan with his father having a key role in the organization too.

The Offensive Line Coach hire will be huge too, but one can hope that Gurley will be rejuvenated with the new coaching staff, I'm not as confident as you Les with the talent, but the next Head Coach better be prepared to not only be able to sell his concept, but the ability to win too. That is going to be the key to gain the buy in, you must win![/QUOTE]

I'm not as concerned about who the HC is as most people. The OC, and as you point out, OL coach will be (IMO) more important.

Well, Les if they hire a defensive Head Coach, you're right, but if they hire an offensive Head Coach I believe that man will be either calling the plays himself or dictating the game plan because if you recall Steve Fairchild under Martz was "OC" in name only, Martz still called the plays.

Gurley is just another example of how bad things are as a whole. Most around the league viewed him as elite going into the season. It wasn't just a bunch of homer fans. He showed that ability his rookie season. No reason think otherwise.
But from September to yesterday he has looked like a below average back. All indications are he's not battling a nagging injury that could slow him down. So what happened? Was it the weight loss? Did he lose muscle with that? If he was a weekend warrior working stiff, he'd be fine with the weight loss. But as a professional athlete among the world's elite, he looks very pedestrian or worse.

Just like with Goff, all we can do is hope its due to the whole situation around the offense and whole team in general. Things just totally fell apart all year. Next year brings new hope with a new regime. What else can we do but hope?
