Today made me appreciate Goff that much more.(as well as Woods, Watkins, and Kupp)

Everett’s day really hurt.

Mannion looks much better if Everett showed up.

His play earlier in the season was much better and then tailed off.

Rookie wall?

There was plenty of suck to go around from the guys in Blue and Yellow today. At least in the first half anyway. I left at the half after they dropped the notion of competitive play envelope into the FedEx bin with the field goal. That showed there was no intention whatsoever to win the game.

Anyways... Austin and Everett appear to be the main topic here now.

Austin - Prior to the game today, there were two options for the team this coming offseason. Option A has been, for all intents and purposes, eliminated. At this point, the Rams couldn't get a Klondike Bar for him in a trade. So, it's option B. Cut him and spend that money elsewhere. The Rams do not need Tavon Austin. He serves no purpose for them after this season.

As for Everett... The guy could've been locked into a preschool full of flu-ridden kids today and not caught a cold. That's an understatement. He was BRUTAL today. But, he's only a rookie and still has potential. I'd give him next year to prove himself. Tavon?? Not so much. He's had plenty of opportunity. Buh bye!!

I bet both of those deeper throws are completions if Goff is in the game. QB needs to make it easy on the receiver.

Everett was a raw player coming from a small school. TEs almost always take time to transition to the pros. It's worth being patient with him. He's got a lot of ability.

That question is yet to be answered .

Garland Everett has been a serious disappointment when a fan thinks back to when he was talking about how good he was going to be.

This Niner game he had a chance to make some big plays. In fact the Rookie TE from Iowa out preformed him.

He's only a disappointment if you have unrealistic expectations. Do we really need to do this again? I would expect Goff would provide the perfect example for why people need to show patience with young players.

Lol that’s funny cause I remember plenty of instances last year when you was putting all the blame on the receivers for not making those type of catches. Those passes wasn’t exactly terrible they was able to put both hands on the ball and a lot of those throws came with him facing pressure. But it’s all good it was his first start and like 90%of everybody else too on offense

You always fall back on trying to claim a double standard. The silly part is that you didn't even bother to address the point. They were bad, inaccurate throws. Throws that I feel quite confident saying Goff would have made. Why? Go watch our last 15 games.

He beats Ahkello Witherspoon on a post route (no easy feat for a TE), and the ball is thrown behind him. He adjusts, but Witherspoon is able to rip it out because of the poor ball placement. He's wide open on what looked like an over route. Mannion throws it high and hot. He can't pull it in. You can't get any more open than he did on the play, and Mannion still couldn't throw a decent ball.

Yep, I feel quite confident saying what I said. If Mannion had thrown two good passes on those plays, Everett likely ends the day with 60+ yards and a TD. Ball placement goes a long way in this league.

A series of poorly placed throws don't exempt Everett from failing to make those catches. I'm sure not only McVay would tell you that, but Everett would himself.

We all know Goff would have thrown better balls most likely. We all know Mannion had a bad day. But you can't put it all on Mannion, that ain't right.

I expect Everett would hold himself to a high standard, but I'm not Everett. I can recognize when a QB made his guy look bad. Everett got open in the end-zone early in the game. Mannion didn't see him until it was too late and thew an uncatchable ball as he was getting hit (the play ended up with a roughing the passer call). Next, Everett was wide open on a deep over route with nobody near him. Mannion overthrew the ball to such an extent that a leaping Everett could barely get his hands on the ball. Finally, Everett beat his man on a post route, and Mannion threw it behind him. Everett adjusted and caught the ball only to have the DB rip it away because the ball wasn't put out in front.

Does Everett shoulder some part of the blame? Yes. However, at the end of the day, with better QB play, he could have had 80+ yards and 2 TDs. His QB held him back today. I'm glad that our starting QB is no longer the guy holding back his receivers.

How much more easier can he make it? Run over there and hand it off to him? If it hits you in the hands you should catch it.

The throw on the deep over route where he was wide open was far too high. He leaped for it and barely was able to get a hand on the ball. It would have been a remarkable catch if he brought it in. That's absolutely silly on a play where nobody was around him. Yes, Mannion had pressure bearing down on him, but Goff has stood tall a number of times this year and delivered knowing he would take a hit.

On the post route, he could make it much easier. Everett originally caught the ball, but he had to turn and reach back behind him to do so. That left him fully extended with the ball right in front of the CB's face. It was very easy for Witherspoon to punch it out. It's easy to sit here and claim he should catch that, but Everett isn't playing against air. That defender is going to do everything in his power to keep him from catching it. Everett had him beat. Had Mannion put it out in front of him, it was an easy catch.

So yes, it would be much more preferable for him to run over and hand it off instead of making an inaccurate pass that costs us the completion.

And how many a Times has Goff missed a complete open receiver? Look I know your infatuated with Goff but come on man. Act like he doesn’t do the same things. While I won’t argue Mannion is better than Goff he for sure is out of rhythm and sync being out of the rotation with the 1’s!

Every QB misses open WRs from time to time. Watching this game, it felt like Mannion's placement was off more than it was on. That's the problem. He didn't just miss a couple throws. His accuracy was scattershot today. The circumstances were far from easy, but this was his chance to shine, and he performed poorly.

Hell yes, I am infatuated with Goff. He's the future of this franchise and produced like a top 5 QB as a 23 year old second-year QB. However, my point here was that Everett could have had a nice game if Mannion had been accurate and on time with his throws. Instead, Everett had a disastrous game. It's unfortunate because this game could have been a huge confidence builder for him.

It didn’t matter because Everett played like doo doo! IDK about him or Higbee tbh... not sure who I favor because both show flashes then they just really act like practice team scrubs. IDK.

What I do know is Goff and our Rams are going to light these fuckers up in the upcoming weeks. Do you think we will blowout the Falcons? (10+ points ?) or it will be closer?

That's the problem. I think Everett started out playing quite well and lost confidence as the game went on leading to some big mistakes.

I hope we blowout the Falcons. I think it'll be a close game. I'm very nervous about that team.

Yeah I agree. I was surprised to the degree how bad he got. Ohhh well at least it was a meaningless game. Thinking a lot of the guys that sat help elevate teammates play.

Man I think good things will happen if we jump out fast on them which we tend to do. With our guys rested I think that will bode well.
I am a bit paranoid of their two RB’s. If we start fast it will help make them less of a factor as the gane goes on. Especially if we run Gurley and control the clock.

Honestly I’m more worried about the following week matchup.

One game at a time though.
