Trade him.

Trade his ass, we cant be having a player going against our new head coaches motto of 'We not me',
Enhance your calm SCirca & Barrison.....lots of last minute stuff to straighten out....Let's not talk about the last option. Not yet...AD is still our beast...our best....and we will be better with him.

Curious, what makes you think they offered $70 million guaranteed @Rainram ?

I hear ... and I must say I don't know for a fact but, I "hear" he wants an opt out clause after yr 3 of the deal .... NO DEAL

He is probably thinking along Championship lines..if he thinks the Rams have no shot at Super Bowl after 3 years, opt out and go to a team that has a decent chance at winning one

JMHO of course

Same agent as Joey Bosa. It's more about leverage to get another "pay day" early in his career. Rams should just sit on his ass for two yrs. They negotiated in good faith. He and his agent are being greedy

Not sure about greedy just yet - but Bosa had more leverage than AD does. Bosa could re-enter the draft after one year. AD's only choice is to sit and wait for the Rams to fold - and if it gets ugly - have to pay the Rams some money back.

On the opt out - no deal if I'm the Rams. If I am going to make you the highest paid defensive player ever - I'm being damn sure that you are going to be playing for me.

I'm really conflicted by the whole situation. As I've stated, I want AD to be a Ram his entire career. I heard where one of his teammates indicated this whole thing is eating at him. Why? Is it because he feels the offer is not good enough? Does he want to be at TC, but his agent is telling to hold out because they hold the cards in this situation? Was his teammate trying to downplay AD's anger with the Rams FO? I honestly can't understand what the heck is going on. I believe the Rams will act in good faith and continue negotiations if AD shows up. If he really wants to be with the team, he needs to show up. Does he deserve a big contract... yes.

At this point, the other guys are getting the reps and developing chemistry in the new defense. And when/if he returns, and I really fear this, runs a greater risk of getting injured because he isn't in 'football" shape. By this I mean he's had no contact in pads plus his mental preparation. I know he's working out and staying in shape, but it's not the same as being in up-tempo contact drills, etc. IMO, if he holds out through the entire preseason, he probably won't be ready to go full-time until probably the 3rd to 4th week. Last thing, I know the team is holding this issue tightly within the confines of the locker room, but it has to be wearing on them and becoming a larger distraction as each day passes without him.

IMO, it seems someone's word and a handshake holds no credibility in today's world, which is why I'm probably so naive regarding this whole situation.

Haha, opt out after 3 years. Is someone spreading bullshit rumours? I have more chance of playing for the rams than ad getting an out clause.

I'm in ad's corner but if the rams make him the highest paid d player i'm gonna be pissed. He has to give them something for doing his deal early.

Can I ask a question to you guys that know more about the ins and outs than me? Is he not in breach of (his current) contract if he doesn't play?

Sort of...

According to the CBA he was supposed to report the 30th day of something, which was August 8. He did not and therefore lost one year of player eligibility. So next year he's going to be considered a 3rd year player still and an RFA. He's allowed to miss 10 games this season and still be considered to have successfully completed this year of his contract. I forget the penalty for not playing 6 games this year.

100% on the Rams' position.
"If", ( since none of us know) there's $60-70M guaranteed on the table, then what's the fucking hold up?
If it's an "I got to be the highest paid (defensive) mofo in the NFL, then...good luck.
And quit blaming his agent - this is all on AD.

When's it stop? And Oh btw, didn't help the Texans much, (when Watt was playing, that is).

If that's true, then he can just sit. Most (if not all) of his guarenteed $$ from bonuses will be paid in the first 3 years. So after crippling the cap he's gonna opt out and go somewhere else? Now that he's in the affordable years of his contract?

No sale.

but since the Rams committed to his 5th year, him missing this year is irrelevant unless he misses next year too, cuz after his 5 year rookie deal hed still have 4years worth and be unrestricted FA

Fearless prediction, based on nothing other than nuts and/or guts:

AD's new deal will happen on Aug. 26 -- and news of the deal will be announced during the nationally-televised Rams-Chargers game. The national stage gives both sides the opportunity to pat themselves on the back: "See?!? We got the deal done. Ain't I the greatest?!?"

Bonus prediction: on its face, the signed deal won't be much different than the rumored offer that's currently on the table. Of course, the agent will explain "the language needed some adjusting before we'd agree to terms".

At which time they could Franchise him.

There was some confusion here on ROD, not by legal people in the NFL, about whether or not you can exercise a 5th year option on a 4th year player (at that point). Plus we've already exercised that option, but if he's a 3rd year player at the end of this year, wouldn't the Rams have the option exercise it again just like they did the first time after his original 3rd year? It becomes a confusing mess now as to what is and isn't allowed, what still counts, what gets wiped out because he lost this year, etc.

Id rather have a healthy Watkins under contract then a DT with a contract for 100 mill+ just my opinion.

Aaron Donald isn't just a DT, though. Some would argue he's the most dominant defensive player in the league. You don't trade guys like him away for "chances" at drafting other top players. At least, good teams don't.

I wonder how his parents feel, probably people that worked all their life and provide him with all the opportunity to become a star athlete. Now they see that he is making millions and it is never enough, he has become a self absorbed greedy sheet.
