Ignore the Odell drama. He wants more money. Maybe we'll give it to him. Maybe we won't. Whatever happens will happen.

So, if someone gets a multi-year contract, then is injured and misses a year, or more - who pays for the inury time? Is that some sort of insurance pool, or the club is out the dough, just as if that person were an active player?

I guess somewhere in there, is the distintion of bonus payments, versus "regular" payments that one would get for being on the roster???

I could explain how this worked in my career.... but we are swiming in different pools here... :woozy2: :woozy2:

He would still be part of the team's CAP hit, although players may receive injury buyouts if it's a pretty serious injury, this is handled more like a retirement imo. Players and teams can carry personal injury insurance policies, but they still won't affect the team CAP.

Considering all the OL issues, VJ coming back, questionable we even make the playoffs and even more questionable what OBJ looks like this year when he returns (not to mention LT) - this seems like one of those times where we might be better simply losing out on the player.

The chances he returns this year and is still elite and stays healthy LT and we make the playoffs with him greatly contributing…..idk man. Seems like better risks to take elsewhere. Unless he brings down his $$ ask ALOT.

This is perfectly said I love obj want him back even if it means for next year but at this point this season right now has my head spinning already. The Rams are known for pulling rabbits out of a hat but this may be a big ask. Stranger things have happened but right now as fan I'm in as much disarray as they are and I'm sure many of you are as well. Even to hear about AD and Coop and that they will play but minor injury it just seems like the deck is stacked so bad against us. Time will tell but I feel the same way as you do.

Just what McVay needed yesterday from OBJ. His team has taken two consecutive beatings, his offensive line is practice squad material and his former WR2 who’s still a couple of months away from any realistic recovery time from a second blown ACL is bitching about being disrespected by the Rams offer. Why McVay even considered responding is beyond me. Rams have much bigger issues to deal with and OBJ is free to move about the country and find someone to gamble WR1 money on a one legged WR. Thanks for your service OBJ. You got your incentives and a ring. Rams got their Super Bowl win. It’s a win win. Now quit stalking McVay like he owes you something. Move on.

So OBJ wants Gallup money? 5 years and 57 million?

Sounds like OBJ is saying a short one or two year deal is off the table.

My guess is that some NFL team is gonna cave and take the huge risk on paying OBJ big $ for multiple years. I'd predict the Rams will lose the bidding war, they just aren't in a position to risk everything on OBJ.

Look if any of us were OBJ we all would be doing the same thing. He has to keep his options open because he knows there will several suitors due to attrition.

The truth is he wants to be here up to a point. Up to the point of a decent offer. He knows his knee is a big issue so he is trying to drum up as many options as possible. Holding out hope Rams can make it work.

To me the real issue we have several other key needs. We need an OLB and help somewhere on the OL possibly 2 spots. Could say we need a better RB which is just another added issue. Last year we actually didn't need OBJ Woods was healthy when he signed he got hurt the next day or so. Basically all we needed was Von last year. We added Sony but RBa are cheap and a dime a dozen.

Something to said for this. Woods was dropped because my guess his injury so if you apply the same logic to OBJ it does make sense.

Unfortunately there is a desperation due how we are doing. We are looking for a savior when the OL is the problem. Last year we were sacked 30 this year we on pace to be sacked 70 times. Noteboom alone has tied Whit in sacks and surpassed him already in pressures in 5 games when Whit did it 17 games that is really really bad.

So now that the Rams are 2-3…OBJ speaks out about “I’m not sure about LA blah blah…”

Lol okay.

What’s next? “OBJ wants to return to the 4-1 Giants holla!”

[huge eye roll]
this is where I stand also

you know OBJ is just going to sign with the contender that offers him the most money...its his style

So prospective for OBJ:
5 years $53m. $29m guaranteed. 2022 $5m salary plus incentives.

Which is basically as little as a 3 year guaranteed contract. Seems doable.

This is 2019 all over again only Stafford isn't taking the heat like Goff did behind one of the worst OLs in the NFL.

Fix the interior OL and the WR question will resolve itself. The Rams have good depth at WR but they don't use it. Skowronek is a decent possession receiver but he doesn't scare any DB.

It's clear that Robinson is having difficulty with Sean's offense. This offense is very complex though it may not seem that way. The WR and Stafford must read the defense the same way as the WR has options on how his route is run by the alignment of the secondary. In Chicago, it wasn't that way. The route was designed a certain way and that's how it was run. Robinson is clearly thinking his way through the play and so he's slower or makes a route choice different from what Stafford sees it. As Robinson and Stafford play together the better it will get as they will begin to be on the same page. When that happens we will see the Robinson we all expected.

It's why it takes rookies so long to play in this offense. Skowronek is probably only playing part of his route tree. Part of is because he lacks the speed to play most of it and the rest is because of what I said above. He will be better next year. But right now they should begin to work in both McCutcheon and Harris. That will return the speed to the WR group that has been missing since Jefferson has been out.

With no run game and only one WR and a TE in the passing game, it's no wonder that the offense is struggling. Now factor in an interior OL playing 2nd and 3rd unit guys it's a wonder they are only one game out. Allen should be back during the bye week with Shelton a couple of weeks after that.

Getting Allen back in time for the Niner's game will be huge. Kyren Williams should also be back in time for the Niners game as well. Jefferson is expected back by the Niner game as well.

I thought the same as I would assume he is seeking more than $10M average.

We just don’t have much cap to work with and it sure seems like we will lose out. Then again… the Rams often surprise me with their creativity.

Also… OBJ is elite. I think we are downplaying that a little with our let him walk talk. Teams must account for OBJ, just like Kupp. Nobody else on our team right now has shown that consistently.

However, the biggest questions in any offer to OBJ are; Is he still the same player? What is the overall health of both knees? Both legit questions and reason to think twice on anything multiyear.

Well, I'd expect any team serious about signing OBj to subject him to a rigorous physical. If he passes the test, then something akin to the earlier posted 5 year contract seems pretty reasonable. Getting him under our 2022 CAP may not be as much of a problem as 2023 though. I'd prefer it if we could sign OBj to a small single 2022 contract and a separate extension beginning in 2023 that is backloaded while very much reducing his 2023 CAP hit, but I doubt we could accomplish such a thing, even with a generous guarantee. jmo.

We have to trust that Snead will make it happen. Our offense is Jeff Fisher -like in points per game.

I do trust Mcvay to fix it and make us playoff contenders again. I really can't stand the thought be being swept by the whiners again in this year's regular season.
