putting the others on the roster might have put film out there to inspire some team to pick them up.

Um... so the Rams would call up an inferior player in order to avoid drawing attention to a superior player?

Rams will call up whomever they think is the best player to fill the role, period, end of story

JoJo was a man who thought he was a returner, but he knew it couldn't last.
JoJo left his home in New York City for some California grass.
Get back, get back, get back to where you once belonged, get back, get back, get back to where you once belonged.

Get back Jojo.

(As sung by Pharoh Cooper)

It’s not like Pharoh was a big part of the offense. Yes he was a receiver on top of his return duties. But I don’t see his production being difficult to replace at that position.

JoJo is obviously being brought in as a return specialist. But if he gets a few targets here and there, that’s about what Pharoh was getting.

I’d rather have Pharoh but I don’t think this is a big deficit on the swap out.

I’ve never seen so much excitement for a “just another guy” player.

Natson's a better returner, but think I might have preferred Hodge or Mitchell, as players who would more creditably fill in at WR, if need be. They might figure that when no longer needed Natson could be waived, with no risk - while putting the others on the roster might have put film out there to inspire some team to pick them up.
My thoughts on the two early injuries to our 5th & 6th WR's in this 2018 team are a bit different than most.

Cooper has not looked as good for some time going back to late 2017 season. As far as being a playmake in the offense ? I saw none. So we lost avery good solid safe duo KR/PR'er & our 6th WR with his placement on the IR. Now Natson enters the scene.

First I am more positive on "The Flea" Natson than most mostly due to his sub 4.4 40 times he has ran previously. McVay uses the jet sweeps as a staple offensive manuving & this fits Natson perfectly. Natson obviously has good quickness and change of direction skills that Cooper does not have. In PS we saw Natson show off excellent open field running skills and a knack for finding running lanes and breaking into the open field. If he wants a long term job he better hold on to that ball. We know he has Instincts to run back returns.

Another event with Mike Thomas early in the first game on a gunner action seem to be a late pattern here for him. He was injured in TC & preseason with nagging injuries nothing serious. Then can't make it through the first quarter of the first regualr season game. He was not healthy for the 2017 playoff gm either & did not dress. He was also injured early December & saw no action. So in 2 season's he has caught 8 balls. I consider him our 5th wide out in this offense. All I keep hearing he has worked hard with Goff....Ok but I see no evidence of it on the field. I prefer to move forward with KhaDarel Hodge as our 5th WR's IF Thomas can not get healthy & Bones can find a player who can be effective as his gunner.

A lot of posters seem to love this guy that saw him in pre-season.
It might bode well for Jojo and the Rams!
A lot of people watched the same games and see just another guy. Those people also hope it bodes well for the Rams but aren’t expecting him to match or exceed a Pro Bowler based off his performances.

If they can't stop holding on returns it won't matter much who the PR is. Troy Hill is the one that might have his job on the line soon.

I will give you a name that I remember thinking was a horrible mistake when the Rams cut him.

7th round pick, 2011. OLB Jabara Williams. Looked like a stud in preseason. Thought the Rams found a steal and was shocked when they cut him. Was picked up by the Bears, who also eventually cut him and had a cup of coffee back with the Rams at some point.

Another guy I thought was good was DE Gerald Rivers... looked like a great pass rushing prospect... I think he ended up in Jax for awhile. Never did much.

I don't expect Natson to exceed the Pro Bowler he's replacing, what I am hopeful for is that Natson secures the ball first and everything after is gravy. I like that Natson has both experience in preseason and some game day experience as well, 7 games with the Jets. Also replacing Cooper, I wanted someone who could return both punts & kickoffs and Natson can do that and because he was with the Rams knows the playbook as well.

@bubbaramfan so astutely pointed out that Natson was very effective running the Jet Sweep in Training Camp and @BonifayRam also illustrated that Natson might be used by McVay in that format, but all that I hoping for, is to catch every ball, not muff any and once in a while bring a smile to my face.
