I’ve thought this for a week now. Heiden is tanking for the best chance to draft the QB from Oregon. That guy reminds me of a a Gruden guy. Carr to Texas, Miami, Or Bills.
If I heard right he's staying for another year so it'll be a 2 year tank.

Did Vermiel jettison the same caliber of player?
Is Tony Banks thought of as high caliber?

I should have clarified. I was comparing the broadcasting-back to coaching thing and the percieved disarray of both teams. Rams were in shambles as the Raiders are now, but it worked out. May work out that way for Gruden. Rams lost Roman Phieffer in 1999 off season, but not anything like a Mack.

Rams didn't lose a high caliber player, but they ammassed a ton 1997-1999, which maybe Gruden can do the next couple years.

Cooper for a number 1. LOL. We got a bargain in Cooks for a #1. Cooks right now is way, way better than Cooper. Something happened to him, or something spooked him because he sucks now.

Raiders now with 3 1s next year

I recall when the Rams had that...........very shortly after a SB winning season.

If Chuckie can't identify talent it won't do much. Good thing there is a new CBA or those 1st round deals hamstring your cap space.

Cooper can ball. I might be one of the few who doesn't think the Cowboys screwed up.

Why am I not surprised by this? Gruden is really going full throttle on this reform. Wouldn’t be surprised if more are getting traded soon...

Heh....when I first read that Dallas gave a number one for Cooper I thought they were nuts and had just made a major mistake. But UFR (Upon Further Review) I have come around on this deal to the point that it may be the move that jump starts a rather moribund Cowboys offense.
Their defense is playing well and if they can score 5 to 7 points more per game they may make a run for it in a very watered down NFC East this year.
A.Cooper might be the one to get them where they want to go.....

Cooper should get the targets in Dallas. This could work out for both teams. Dallas needed to get Dak some help at WR.

The talking heads were saying that same thing on the drive home tonight, that the Oregon kid may stay in Eugene another year... on the other hand - that WSU (especially after torching the ducks Saturday) kid will likely be available very early in the draft!!

This is all I've been saying.

Nah. The Cowboys didn't screw up. They got a talented wideout who needs to round out his game/re-find his motivation and they also have a very good offensive staff that fits him.

I'm just impressed the Raiders got a round one pick for a guy who would be angry weathering the rebuild that's coming. They got lucky with the NFC East division rivalry thing.

The Cowboys are desperate. Desperate times call for desperate measures... they had to do something, they just had no downfield game.

Cooper would be a stud in a better system. He's like Robert Woods. Dude is being wasted due to the system and QB. He's a WR who can win with route running and vertical speed. The drop issues would be less problematic elsewhere.

Do you not think Carr is a good QB? He has sucked the last few years but had some solid years before the injurys started hitting him. TD int Ratio has been solid, a little low completion percentage and definitely doesn't have the YPC that Goff has but few QBs do.

Other than Ike, I don't recall any very good players on the Rams back then. The Raiders weren't terrible. They had some key pieces in place. An outside pass rush is on everyone's list. Top WR too. I could see if Gruden was getting rid of bad apples, and unproductive players, but he's only trading the good ones. I get that he covets the picks and good players are the only ones that can land him high first or second rounders. I also get that he doesn't want big contracts mucking up his rebuild. But, he is rolling the dice here. Drafting good players isn't a given, even with first round picks. They won't necessarily be high first round picks either. Even in great first rounds the best players are gone in the top ten, for the most part. Mainly, he now has two extra firsts. It's a long shot that he will be able to replace Cooper, and nearly impossible to replace Mack. If he trades Carr, then he is certifiable. QBs are tough to find. That's why I say that he is buying into his own legend a bit too much.

Through all of these shenanigans he seems to have garnered a lot of criticism from his players. That's a bad way to start. He may have to get rid of a lot more before it's said and done. Disgruntled players are bad for fixing a roster.

At this point, he seems to have been out of coaching a bit too long. But, as you pointed out so was Vermeil, but he was acquiring great players instead of trading them.
