I get it and it has cut into business in the neck of the woods I am.
But, tribal casinos ain't like Vegas.

That used to be very true, and a few still are essentially a WH. But the majority are as glitzy as Vegas. Not like the super luxury resorts in Vegas but the casinos I have been inside of in multiple states rival most of the casinos in Vegas or on the shore in New Jersey in Atlantic City.

Keep in mind the tribes partner in most cases with the big gaming companies (like Ceasars and so on) to build these out and help run them.

The one near here is owned by a tribe that has 4 in the state, and they are very nice.

But to the original point there is a draw in Vegas, and New York and LA and some other cities but in the end IMO it's the $$$ that closes the deal.

Most all of your tribal casino's are run by exec's, both current and former, from Vegas casino's. Granted you won't find Ceasars Vegas when you go to every tribal casino but yes they've very much like a casino you'd find anywhere in Nevada or Jersey.

Yeah.
Nice casinos but the experience isent like Vegas, that is my point.
Not one casino that is sitting 30 miles outside of a town by itself. They can be very nice. My mother is law works at one and it's nice.
But the strip/Vegas experience vs that?
Different worlds.

Well, if you're a young guy about to get a nice pay raise and you can go to Vegas? Please. The social scene, club scene there.
No state income tax.
Let's say a guy is 25, single and a mid level FA.
He offered 2 years $5.1M from Cleveland, 2 years $4.9 M from Baltimore or 2 years $4.4M from Vegas. A lot of guys would take a little less to be a star in Vegas.
Depends on the player I guess.
Just like anything else.
But for a young dude making a bunch of moneynin Vegas seems like fun.
"No State Taxes" is a BIG Deal! Even if they have to pay Taxes in other States they Play in!

Very true.
Esp for a mid level guy.
If you are making $16 M a year it barely matters even if you would be paying a huge amount in taxes. It's Monopoly money.
A guy making, say, $800,000 a year. That, let's say, 10% state tax makes a measurable different to that guy.
That said teams in high tax states don't seem to have trouble signing guys.

They don't, because they counter the tax impact in their bids for players. Knowing full well that the representation of the players boil that stuff out when they compare the offers along with all the other details like roster strength, coaching, system, etc.

Just off the top of my head - no congestion, no humidity, no bugs, no state income tax, no snow (although doesn't apply to Miami, Dallas or LA), local skiing and hiking, world class restaurants, shows and gambling (if you're into that).
So when the Rams get around to playing there, you are putting us up at your place right? (y):sneaky:

In a word- yes.
Could do 5 people without breaking a sweat. That’s you, 503, Selassie, Rhody and GGI.
Got 5 bedrooms and 3 baths, and it’s just me, Mari and Coop.

Mandalay Bay is the closest strip property, with the Rio and the Palms being the closest “local” casinos, which are both really nice.

Just to see, I looked it up and in CA it's 12.3% at the high end but then they also go another 1% for mental health tax for a grand total of 13.3% if you make over $1,000,000+ per year.

Haha.
Fing criminal.
Commies.
Anyway, mental health tax should be rolled back for treatment for people paying 52% income tax.

The tribes are partnering with the big gaming companies, that's how the execs end up there. It's essentially a "transfer".

But the strip/Vegas experience vs that?

It's true the experience of the strip is wholly unique, there is nothing else like it. The boardwalk in Atlantic City is a great time but not quite the same.

Personally I used to prefer downtown, but haven't made it down there the last two trips since I was there on biz and didn't have time.

That said teams in high tax states don't seem to have trouble signing guys.

The big name FA's get so much money these days I'm starting to wonder if they even care anymore. I don't know.

Especially in the NBA.

Yup! When they move over they often contact us to continue doing business with their new home. I've seen it dozens of times and it keeps getting more frequent.
