That's a nice idea,but the problem would be members would feel they should have the ability to post anything they want, since they are paying to be a member here. And trust me, it doesn't go well for the moderators at that point

I find this topic a tad uncomfortable and uncertain how to respond... But here goes;

Thank you for the response to this message. I want membership to know this thread was not covertly initiated by myself, but appreciate the gesture by Dags and those that have chimed in with words of encouragement.

To those that have donated; I will send you a personal thank you.

To those that have donated this year prior to this thread; thank you for supporting us.

To those that cannot donate now or choose not to; thank you for your contributions via participation.

To everyone; if we lose next Sunday - no refunds!

The question was asked how much it costs; I set the target at $150/mo because that's a level I am comfortable with. Some months we come up short. Some months we exceed. There are future needs and things we could consider which is why a larger target may make sense. I have some ideas possibly for the New Year to add to the quality of things. Regardless, please rest assured all donations go toward our board.

I hope my message here comes off as intended as I ramble a bit. I do not want anyone to feel pressure on the topic of donation and rest assured I am committed to our oasis without donation. But I say that knowing our members have always stepped up. We all love this community.

Personally, I would love to see donations exceed target every month. I know CGI would love to put more money into the site. And anything donated will always go directly to maintaining and upgrading this site. He has been here all along and is one I don't hesitate to trust only has this site and its mission at heart.

Y'know - Paulie gave us a great comfy lounge. From time to time, the furnishings need to be upgraded too. It'd be really cool to see this place go on for years and for many an alumni get together. I get so jacked when I see the donations take care of expenses. It may not seem like much to some but having to do all that work and then also pay to do it has GOT to be taxing. I really appreciate it.

And I have to give another shout out to Paulie. This place is clearly his baby. He has always been here either quietly or up to his elbows making sure he helps keep this site top notch. I know I have really appreciated his help on a myriad of subjects as well as just shooting the shit with him at times. He's just a regular guy who has given us a playground. And I can beat any one of your asses in tetherball and out hopscotch you any day of the week. So don't start with me.

There's something to be said with an "open source" business model. My Libertarian side showing, but people can do for themselves. We need no big govt, corporations, and etc to do things for us. I give kudos for this site down the line on ownership.. X, Phx, and now CGI. We've been in good hands at all time.

I started this thread because I kept looking at that box in the upper right hand corner. Hell, I felt bad for not donating myself in a few months. I've ran sites before and have a general idea of costs. It just isn't web hosting (dedicated server). I would imagine this site does have some licensing fees to pay. This isn't one's normal forum software. This is not your normal "free PHP" that comes with a hosting package. It's a bit more advanced, which we all enjoy the features.

Google "hosting packages dedicated server" and you'll see what I speak of. There's many shared server packages out there which are cheap, but this site would crash with the traffic if on a shared server. Not to mention the other sites you share with the server pulling you down. There's also some low-end dedicated servers I wouldn't trust. Then bring into the equation these guys here at ROD are volunteering their time and effort. CGI may own the site, but he's not making any coin. Just look around... No ads.. Granted he may be on the Rams payroll. JK... Just saying I appreciate him, X, Phx, PT, 503, Rabid, Yamahopper. and the others.

Mathematically, every member here could donate $1-$2 per month and that would be a damn good month.

Appreciate all who could donate. But remember what CGI stated. Only donate if you can. Your participation here is more valued. .
