Agreed. With almost zero perimeter WRs Goff puts up a top notch game and 30+ vs a so called top defense.

With constant dropped passes thrown on a dime.
I think Goff would tell you it wasn't a top notch game. Per usual with him, he was very rusty in the first half of the week 1 game. His accuracy was a bit off. But he stepped it up big time late in the game and made some great throws. It's something to hopefully build on. The dude just has to stop trying to force throws instead of taking a sack. That cost him another pick six.

After all the bat shit crazy ending plays of that game in the dirty D.... Goff's pick 6 basically won the game for the whiners.

It certainly didn't help. But you could say the same about any number of defensive lapses too. When your defense gets torched like that, you got some problems.

As part of Jared's regression he has become a "Captain Checkdown" as today's game amply showed. This is just one more step in his journey to becoming a lower tiered/backup type QB. Of course many will blame the OL and all but Jared just doesn't make enough plays to be considered a QB who can lead a team to a SB.
Kinda sad really but I have to admit I'm glad he's Detroit's problem now.
We have more important fish to fry in our collective journey to winning the Super Bowl!!!

Yeah, Goff really should have been throwing down the field to all that Pro Bowl talent the Lions have at WR.

That has been his ultimate Achilles heal is his inability to give up on a play. Needs to learn to throw the ball away too. He’s going to have to learn that with the Lions because they don’t have the talent down field to force stuff often.

It was not perfect that is for sure. Top notch is probably an inaccurate term given the interception.

It's about context and nuance though. The game has to be put within that lens. You have a LT hurt and maybe the worst WR's in the league and find a way to put up 33 points vs a top defense, in your first game with a new team and system.

It's quite an offensive output within the actual context.

Having said that, I think this 9ers defense is not going to be the top defense of a few years ago. The secondary losses of Sherman and now Verrett probably for a season is real suspect.

Honestly I see that as his biggest problem, hell watching a few rookies today and they were comfortable throwing it away and resetting. Better than a fumble or pick 6.
