this is how the nimrods at rotoworld show their appreciation.

Jared Goff completed 23-of-32 passes for 321 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Rams' 35-32, Week 3 loss to the Bills, adding two rushes for four yards and a touchdown.

Both of Goff's passing scores came on play fakes, while the rushing number was a quarterback sneak. It was Goff's third straight solid performance, though another where he struggled to make plays that weren't set up by play action. The Bills sold out on some second half play fakes, including Goff's touchdown strike to Robert Woods, but weren't able to quite get home on what would have been game-changing plays. Goff has to start making more plays on conventional dropbacks, but for now, the smoke-and-mirrors continues to work. He will be in the low-end QB1 mix for Week 5 against the pathetic Giants.

Then throw it away. He’s too ok making bad throws hoping something happens
He does need to work on throwing the ball away. I'm sure McVay's in his ear about that in fact.

once he learns what to do on broken plays he’ll be elite. All the greats could turn nothing into something. Goff tends to panic and make bad decisions with things fall apart.

I disagree. Goff had several plays he made with immediate pressure in his face. What he needs to work on is quickly flushing the pocket when pressure comes. He is great on the rollouts outside the pocket but when the play in the pocket breaks down he needs to flush out. But he is more of a Brady and Manning in that regard. He will own the pocket all day but a few times a game instead of flushing he will take a sack or throw it away instead of buying more time and extending a play. Especially on those screens that break down.

And when that happens instead of trying to extend the play he panics and throws the ball where he thinks it’s supposed to go. Like I said.

we’re not waiting for plays to develop this year. We’re dialing up short passing plays.

Brady and Manning were so great bc they read the defense before the snap and knew they were going to leave the short passes open
Manning and Brady were coaches behind the center. Goff is still learning.
Goff is playing awesome. But he’s not more like Brady or manning. Right now he’s an upgraded Kirk Cousins.

I think this is pretty silly. McVay doesn't have a "game" .. his scheme is built around his players. If he had Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, Allen, Big Ben, etc. you think he would tell them to not escape pressure when they can, and try to make off schedule plays?? Of course he would want them to do that.

Historically Goff has really struggled in those situations so McVay's offense is built similar to Brady and Peyton's, intermediate timing based passing so his QB can be surgical. I think part of what OP was saying is fair, because Goff is an underrated athlete and has an ability to move well when flushed from the pocket.. and that off schedule part of his game can develop still. There haven't been many opportunities for him to do that this year yet, so maybe it has improved. His throwing on the run definitely looks better.

But to OP's point, if he can make a few more off schedule high level throws per game when flushed out of the pocket, he will hit an entirely new level of dominance. He could push Mahomes/Wilson/Rodgers levels. Because what separates those guys is they play elite from within the pocket and within structure, but when things break down and flushed from the pocket they are just as deadly.

Of course McVay has a type of game. It was evident with Kirk Cousin when he was with Washington. His whole career (nearly 10 years in the NFL) has been about timing and precise route running. He has never coached a dual threat QB and there is zero evidence that he prefers that kind of play (or wants Goff to replicate it). There's is plenty of evidence from the post-game interviews and other media of McVay telling Goff NOT to play hero ball and work within the "timing and structure" of the play. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard McVay say "timing and rhythm" or "we've got to be smart with the ball" I would be a rich man. It's pretty clear the game plan on dropbacks is 1) climb the pocket to gain a couple seconds, 2) throw the ball at the RBs feet if the play isn't there (I've seen that two or three times this season alone), 3) get safe yards and slide before contact. I doubt we'll ever see Goff reverse the field buying time for receivers to get open. That's just not how he's being coached.

Outside of Andy Reid, the Seahawks, Packers, Steelers, and Bills have notably bad offensive play callers. Off schedule is 50% of the offensive production.

Cousins isn't in the same stratosphere as Goff with the Deep ins, sideline throws or quick decision making and accuracy in the short and medium parts of the field in general in my opinion. Goff is an Elite thrower on those in my book, as good as any I have seen. He consistently has show the ability to bail the team out with pinpoint pressure throws when necessary. The accuracy is at an Elite level.

I would agree Goff can improve his game by prolonging the plays that breakdown like the screens and in general rolling out to buy time when the coverage has everything locked down. He tends to be fine with throwing it away to often. My opinion is this could improve as he gets more comfortable with the O-line. He is probably expecting breakdowns up front after last years O-line. He has shown a great ability to find receivers and throw very accurate on the run. But again, he often throws it away rather than flushing. This may be coaching though because it risks losing yards or contact. Manning and Brady, Brees etc rarely did this. It's a pocket passer mentality, and the NFL is won by these types. Goff under center with a serviceable O-line will have the Rams at 30+ PPG again this year which speaks for itself.

He's been pretty stellar from my eyes so far and I'm just a fan. We could have had Corey Davis and who at QB?, plus whomever they got the next season and ILB or CB. We got that!

Lots of ways to measure a QB or an offense. One thing about Goff, give him a serviceable O-line and he will put up a top 3 offense. He led the #1 offense over the course of 2017-2018 and now is on pace to lead the #1 offense again in 2020.

Rams are 3rd in yards per game over 3 games with maybe the worst defense coming up week 4 in the Giants and several other bad defenses after that including the Seahawks who have the worst defense in the NFL giving up 497.3 YPG.

Goff may be the most underated QB in the history of the NFL when you consider the production the dude puts out.

But...but McVay uses his telekinesis to control Goff's weak and fragile mind, throws the ball wherever McVay wants to - also with telekinesis because Goff has a noodle arm that is about as accurate as a stormtrooper otherwise - and takes control of Goff whenever he's in the bed with his girlfriend, since Goff wouldn't be able to charm and bed an old hag otherwise.

Didn't you get the memo?
Hey Chris Simms tell Foolio he’s an idiot on set tomorrow for me! lol

Those defensive numbers can't be right! I swear I read our defense is the worst. Crazy part is we're middle of the pack and have played 3 good teams. Imagine being bad and having played bad teams.

158.3 in 4th quarter for season.

Lost in the disappointment of his team’s late-game loss to the Buffalo Bills was this: According to Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, quarterback Jared Goff had his best performance of the 2020 season.

“I thought yesterday (Sunday) was his best game, I didn't think it was even close,” McVay said. “When you look at the caliber of play, I thought his pocket movement, his ability to navigate and be able to move while keeping his eyes down the field and make some big-time throws was outstanding.

“The Philly game, it was a really clean operation. He did a great job, but I thought there was a little bit more challenging looks yesterday that forced him to execute.”

McVay went on to say that Goff did a good job of moving in the pocket and making plays downfield on third down, and that he showed great poise in helping to bring the Rams back from 28-3 deficit, making plays in pressure situations.

Goff finished 23-of-32 for 321 passing yards, with two touchdowns passes and one interception. He also scored a touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback sneak. Goff was sacked twice, posting a 111.6 passer rating.

"Outside of the interception early on, I thought I played well,” Goff said. “I thought we were able to move the ball well. There’s some things obviously I’ll always want back, but I was really pleased with how we fought upfront and on the outside. Our guys made plays all day.”

For the season, Goff is No. 8 in the NFL in passing yards (863), No. 8 in passer rating (109.6) and 10th in completion percentage (70 percent).
Goff leads the league with 9.6 yards per completion. And he’s played clean football when the game matters most. Goff is 12-of-15 for 194 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the fourth quarter, leading the league with a 158.3 passer rating.

The Rams have done a nice job of playing balanced football on offense, which has created some opportunities for Goff to push the ball down the field. The Rams average 170 rushing yards a game, which is tied for fourth in the NFL.

Because of their ability to run the football, Goff has been effective in the play-action game. The Cal product is 33-of-44 (75 percent) for 447 passing yards, with four touchdowns and no interceptions on play-action passes, according to Next Gen Sports.

McVay said one of Goff’s strongest attributes is his ability to stay even-keeled through adversity, and that helped the Rams comeback on the road against the Bills.

“That is a great trait of Jared’s,” McVay said. “I thought it was instrumental and really in a lot of our players to kind of keep us just being present, being in the moment. I thought that’s’ what enabled us to be able to just kind of chip away a little bit at a time.”

His peak was quite a while ago.
