I cannot remember a draft class that I have followed less haha. Crazy how this was our SB a little over half a decade ago.
Was thinking the same thing - mind you, we would be eliminated from playoff contention by week 9 and had 5 months to discuss the draft with a ton of high picks t dissect! I prefer this feeling!

Overall I like the draft with one exception. Kendricks has red flags and flies in abundance. Why they wasted a pick on him is another head shaker. He definitely doesn't seem like a good fit for the team culture.

I loved the Bruss, and Durant picks. Williams looks like a good RB for that #3 rotation.

I think Bruss will be the starter at RG and Edwards will have to compete with Shelton for LG. After two years Edwards still struggles with pass blocking and run blocking. Bruss will probably be better than Corbett who wasn't particularly good at pulling. In fact, neither OGs were last year. I know Shelton can pull because I've seen him do it well at UW. Edwards still was struggling to play with leverage, and much of that has to do with his height. This is a make-or-break year for Edwards and Evans. I see the game day backups as Jackson swing OT, Anchrum swing OG, and Shelton as a backup center. With Bruss and Shelton I think we may see the Rams move away from a power blocking scheme to a straight man gap blocking style and inside zone to run between the tackles. Bruss and Shelton are more mobile than Edwards and Corbett were. Allen is fine on the second level in a straight man gap blocking scheme. That would work because all the Ram RBs are one cut and go types.

Durant will compete with Deayon for SCB nickel, but I think Durant will earn it before the season or soon thereafter. He's much faster so he can stay in phase with receivers in man coverage which Deayon struggles with as he lacks the long speed to stay in phase.

Williams seems to be a well rounded player, who can run, catch and pass block (the same roles Michel played). He isn't as fast as Michel, but Williams has a fluid and evasive running style that he runs aggressively. He won't break long runs but he can move the chains.

I think Hardy has legit potential he's just going to take some time to develop. But he can play while he does. I think he will begin to bump Chris Garrett who is expected to play a bigger role other than STs. It will take a couple of years before we can expect Hardy to be a more complete player at his position. He must master his pass rush, run defense, and dropping into coverage.

The 6th and 7th round players all look like STs to be groomed as backups with some potential. The final OT Arcuri is going to be a big project and because of the nature of his problems, I'm not sure he can really develop into a quality backup. Carberry will have his work cut out as Arcuri IMO will need intensive physical training to improve his technique issues.

Right now this looks like a solid draft with the one exception. This was a very pragmatic draft filling holes and attempting to improve the STs portion of the team. It will be interesting to see how they begin to shake out.

Neither Wagner nor Jones will be going anywhere near special teams. So if agents are smart, they tell their ILB and P clients to sign with the Rams. Almost a lock that we end up keeping a UDFA ILB, and a P can't ask for a better chance

I greatly enjoy that part of team building and watching it all develop.
It's almost all, "wait and see".. but for me it's "wait and watch for signs" that they're developing.

The Rams recent drafts have been something to watch.
This one feels very hit or miss to me.

I hope they are planning to sign Matthieu because I don’t want them being too reliant on 5th, 6th, and 7th round Defensive backs to start on a Super Bowl contender.

Well, ... with every mock I've posted this season dating back to Feb. 3'rd, I've been calling for an offensive guard to become our first draft pick in 2022. I finally got my wish.

Those of us who endured losing Humphries for Tutu last year must feel a bit relieved, although I'm still hoping we grab a Center/OG as a UDFA, Kolone won't cut it as our #3C imo.

I want Mathieu.

But Fuller/Scott/Rapp/Burgess all played in our playoff run last year...so we wouldn't be relying on any of the guys we drafted today.

I was referencing those that said drafting two corners and two Safeties makes them think the Rams won’t sign Matthieu. Suggesting the rookies would play.

The only indicator I see that they may not sign TM is trading for Troy Hill.

Of those you mentioned last year Scott was the only one who impressed. I’d love it if Matthieu was added to the group that includes Hill and Ramsey. One more vet that has played at a high level?? Bonus!!

These later round picks are mainly average depth that the coaches hope to develop. I can’t get too excited about it all. I like the Bruss pick a lot. The rest is just a wait and see for me.
Some of them have the talent they just have flaws that made them drop. But yeah bust rate still applies and it's higher in late rounds.

I think best case Bruss starts for us on the OL and Durant in the slot. Both could end up being quite good in those roles too, or perhaps more accurately I don't think either are capped on ceiling. So if you can get two starters the draft is a success given what they had to work with.

Williams isn't going to unseat a guy like Akers in one camp without injury of some sort contributing. So his best hope is to win that backup job which is well within his ability and that will help us a great deal for offensive continuity in games.

Lake is interesting, he had that wrist injury. So maybe he comes in hot and is a factor. But I presume he's a depth changeover guy who will unseat Burgess. Someone is gonna get bumped off that depth chart.

Kendrick's the risk/lottery pick of the bunch. Gonna assume he's depth at best and if he's more than that bonus.

Hardy I really like. I don't care about level of competition, he's got some skills this staff might be able to bring out but his best case is winning a rotation spot.

Yeast we'll see, he's probably gonna need teams to make it. Both him and Arcuri are PS types at best IMO.

On the SIXTH ROUND pick Kendricks. Seem like a high reward low-risk pick. He had some problems and a child in the hospital. He got another chance and made good with the Champion Bulldogs. As mentioned Rams going with the numbers game and scouting in the secondary. If he wants to work hard he has a good chance of sticking. I'm sure the Rams looked into his character and decided he was worth the pick.

Totally agree. We are a racehorse we do not need people learning on the job type players. They can act as backup and depth whole they learn. Rams seem to do 5he farm team concept extraordinarily well. Look at Garrett and some of the TEs and linemen I see big things for their future even if only backups. No one needs to be pressed into service when not ready.

Getting Mathews solves almost all the problems especially on such a vet type team.

Rams fill needs with some players that fit their team. What's not to like about another Wisconsin OG/OT with some attitude? Looks like he has a great shot at being a starter right away.

It continues with Durant a smaller but, solid ball skills CB that competes for slot and dime.

Williams is an all-around talent. He has surprising leg drive with great balance for a smaller shiftier back. Perfect fit for McVay's offense with the blocking, receiving, and running skills. You know the Rams wanted him when they moved up to get him. Great interview on GMF.

I mentioned Kendricks earlier as a high reward low-risk pick.

The rest are also needs that have the potential to make the roster or PS. I'm still learning about them. No melt-downs here on ROD so it must be a solid draft. McVay/Sneed had a solid plan to address needs at OG, CB, RB, and future safety help. It appears they got very good value for their picks with both filling immediate and future needs. I'm looking forward to reports on the competition in camp.

So last year we were forced to rely on Long and that was it for our 3rd CB. This year he will have two guys (at least) competing with him, and Hill is likely actually above him right now on the depth chart.

Last year our backup TEs got valuable playoff experience - regular season games are about to be a breeze for Blanton and Hopkins.

Given the level of excitement over Bruss, it's possible that we have upgraded RG.

RB situation was dire last year. Enter Kyren Williams.

Harris and Atwell were basically red shirted last year, add speed and in Harris' case, height to the WR room. And we signed Allen Robinson.

We signed Bobby Wagner.

The two rookie safeties I can only assume are being pegged for special teams.

Garrett and Hardy - between the two, we should be able to replace what Obo gave us last year.

Bobby Brown and Earnest Brown red shirted last year.

Holy shit this team is fucking loaded.

I love LOVE what were doing here. So much competition. It's going to push everyone on the roster.

I mean look at the roster before factoring in UDFAs...

QB - Stafford, Wolford, Perkins
RB - Akers, Hendo, Williams, Funk
WR - Kupp, ARob, Van, Tutu, Harris, Skow, Powell
TE - Higbee, Blanton, Hopkins
OL - Boom, Edwards, Allen, Bruss, Havenstein, Jackson, Shelton, Evans, Anchrum, Arcuri

DL - AD, Gaines, Ashawn, BB3, Hoecht, Williams, Earnest Brown
ILB - Wagner, Jones, Howard, Rozeboom
EDGE - Floyd, Hollins, Lewis, Garrett, Hardy
CB - Ramsey, Rochelle, Hill, Durant, Long, Kendrick
S - Fuller, Scott, Rapp, Burgess, Lake, Yeast

Gay, Dixon and Orzech

That's 58 players. I left off some like Calais who I think stand no chance.

Five of the players above will have to try to be snuck onto the practice squad or traded (Rapp).....that's nuts

I'm a homer, but I see Caeser Williams making the PS. Measurables are mediocre, but the kid can play.

Yeah roster nuking is about to be really fun. I think looking at wideout that signing Odell means Harris is cut, or anyone with hopes of winning a TE4 role. OL also has the dev kid (Italy) in year two, and they might not keep 10, so cuts there will be interesting.

I also don't think they'll carry both Perkins and Wolford. If Perkins can do the job he's the guy with team control so Wolf can be cut. If he can't beat out Wolf then he needs to be cut.

Lake is going to bump someone off in that safety room.

I don’t know if their #2 corner will be as good as last year… but I’m confident 3-6 will be MUCH better.
I think there’s a pretty good chance Lake is a real upgrade over Reid & Hughes.. and may challenge the guys ahead of them.
Hardy’s athletic profile is INSANE.

Can’t wait for them all to get on the field.

1) If it comes down to it we might have to go with 2 QB's rather than 3.
2) I don't think Powell is guaranteed his job now that he'll have some competition.
3) I believe a blocking specialist will make the team at TE.
4) AJ Arcuri is likely meant for the Practice Squad, even Evans may be in trouble if his pre-season play doesn't improve, ... a lot.
5) Hoecht, if beaten out by Copeland again may find himself on the Practice Squad. Neither Williams or E. Brown may get beyond the P.S.
6) Rozeboom will be in a fight for #4 ILB, but I still expect 4 on the 53 roster.
7) Long may be traded & Kendrick could easily hit the P.S.
8) Rapp may be traded. If Mathieu joins us, two of the remaining Safeties may be getting acquainted with the P.S.
jmo.

The Rams made a show in the lead-up to the NFL Combine that they would not be sending their GM and head coach. During the team’s Super Bowl celebration, GM Les Snead wore a shirt reading “[Expletive] them picks.” The Rams have shown there is more than one way to skin a cat. But their lack of scouting effort stuck out like a sore thumb this weekend. This is a non-athletic class with almost zero upside – I see a lot of summer cuts.
