Excellent thread topic, first of all.

I like our chances of keeping Suh for something like the suggested 3 year $36 million, fully guaranteed. Suh is having a ball and what a great opportunity for him to finish his career with a flourish.

The money will be there since it would be a slight reduction from current levels. Further cap savings from Joyner being allowed to walk and a Barron trade/release will provide monies for a Saffold and Peters extension.

Bottom line is that a Suh extension seems very doable if the Rams want him that much. Wade will have a lot of input here, no doubt.

One last thing. I’ve been reading that draftniks are raving about the DT’s in this next draft. One could well be our pick at #32 even IF we extend Suh. The rich could get richer, you know?

There's no hurry to decide so lets see what this DL does the rest of the year with Suh part of it. If they take off - then a Suh extension for 2 years/$25M might be a good thing. Then add a CB and EDGE via draft. FS via FA.

Hey @Faceplant. Have you caught the new Cobra Kai series on YouTube? It's with the same Karate Kid characters, with the same Johnny (William Zabka).

I was thinking a fully guaranteed contract with a big signing bonus should do it we should be close to 100 million in cap space and we don’t have any early round picks that’s gonna help too. I think we have enough money to resign him and Brockers. I’m a firm believer in if the money works you keep your team together around 3 or 4 years of Suh Donald and Brockers would mean the money we invested in Donald would remain a good choice

I would love to see Suh stay here and continue playing for the Rams but I just don't see how they can afford it. I will keep my hopes up though because if anybody can do it, McVay and Snead can.

3 years 26 million and a chance to invest in a SK real estate deal somewhere that will pay him a lot more than an NFL contract.

Yea. It can happen. Don't forget that angle.

Absolutely not. This draft is LOADED with big guys who can move. Thanks for coming in and hopefully winning a Super Bowl with us Mr. Suh and good luck to you in the future.
Agree 100% here. Rams took a shot in the draft this year with the selection's of DE/DT John Franklin-Myers & NT/DT Sebastain Joseph -Day with the 4th & 6th round selections.

Wade might desire to return DL'er Micheal Brockers back to full-time to the NT post where Suh plays this season primarily. Rookie Franklin has already displayd the talent to play the post where Brockers resides today. Rams will also have DL'er Morgan Fox returning from the IR next season. Rams might also find the cost of resigning UFA DT/NT Ethan Westbrooks back again to help in the rotation a bargan when compared to the 14 million a yr cost of Suh.

The cost $$$ of new contracts dished out for Brockers(27 yrs/Westbrooks (27yrs) would be a better overall investment in the future of this Rams defense.

He's really bought in. I just wish he was a couple years younger. I think the most we can sign him to is a 2 or 3 year deal and it has to be a team friendly deal.

Also, I love it when he brings up the Packers Suh's face lights up with a smile. He's truly passionate
He seems like one of those guys who could still be very effective even after he loses a step. His strength is pretty overwhelming.

Wanna bet Donald leads the cheer for Suh and demands the Rams extend him a long time?
Donald will tell his agent to redo his contract and give some money back to the Rams so they can sign Suh :p

Would be a bonus if we could get Suh to stay for a fair guaranteed contract. I think Suh is to the point though if he wins a SB with us he may retire, and as a Ram. He is that humble enough by the looks of it. If not...Les will be like:

$100 million? Not even close. https://overthecap.com/calculator/los-angeles-rams/ OTC has them currently with an estimated $35 million in cap space for 2019, with 39 players returning. Saffold is a free agent. Littleton is a free agent. A whole bunch of important depth are free agents. Joyner. And Suh, of course. Maybe they can find a way to sign Suh - but it would be at the cost of other positions. And I expect them to put some resources into some offensive positions, as well as cornerback, safety, OLB, and ILB - oh and possibly DT.

My impression at the time was that when Suh was cut so late, he knew his options were limited - so he took a little bit less to go with the Rams for one year, so he could look good before being a free agent in 2019 and going for one last big contract. Even then, it was only a little bit smaller than his other offers. Keep in mind also that Suh is savvy enough to know that playing in California is costing him a bit of money, due to high state taxes. He's unlikely to take a lot less to play with the Rams, if another team offers him a big contract, especially another contender.

that means there's $35m to spend on 14 players. let's say the rams keep 7 draft picks from next season (knowing snead they probably end up drafting 13 players). they spend $5m on the rookies. that leaves $30m for 7 players. more than enough for the rams to keep or get who they want.

I see slim to no chance Suh comes back unless he takes a severe hometown discount.

I like him and all and he's played well. But for reasons already mentioned, age, draft prospects, cap payouts and signing other more high priority players, Suh won't be a priority.

The lifecycle of a Dynasty had ups and downs of free money and times you have to start pinching. Tough decisions but crucial.

$12 million for Suh - possibly more. $8 million or so for Saffold. At least $3 million for Littleton - that's the second round tender offer - could be more. That's $23 million right there. They will need well over a million for the practice squad. You need a safety margin for signing players to replace those on IR - usually a couple of million at least. The 32nd pick in the draft last year had a first year cap hit of just over $2.1 million. Like it or not, the Rams have some hard choices to make - and that's a good case scenario. And they have a bunch of key signings for the following year, they have to budget for at some point, and possibly frontload, before players like Peters and Goff either have huge raises or go free agent in 2020. The 5th year option on Goff is likely to be over $25 million. They can sign him long term and adjust when the cap hit occurs to a limited extent, but that would likely mean cap hits well in excess of $30 million for years if they backload the cap hit back significantly.

I think the Rams always intended Suh to be a one year signing, with the Rams getting a third round comp pick for him in 2020.

Good point. As much as we’d all love to extend Suh to a cap-reasonable 2-3 year deal, let’s remember we’d essentially have to “trade” away our 3rd round comp pick in order to do so.

Yeah, Suh is worth it, but OTOH Les worked awfully hard to stockpile comp picks...

Gotta predict Suh is gonna have a hard choice this offeseason between Rams (rings, happiness, great team, business opportunities) and other teams (who offer many millions more)

If you want to have a great team you need to have great players. I suspect that by the end of this season our d-line will be a key force in a playoff run. If so, I doubt there will be so many casual votes to dismantle it, and doubt that McVay Wade and Snead will casually do so without a serious run at keeping the line together.

My macro vision of the NFL recently is Defense doesn't matter. It's all offense. Look at how bad both the Eagles and Patriot defenses were shredded in the Super Bowl.

Seems that focus should be on a superior line, QB, and weapons galore on offense. Then stick whatever out there on defense.

If I were the Rams I'd hire Mike D'Antoni as a consultant. There's no D with D'Antoni!

All kidding aside...put all money on OFFENSE. A LOT OF IT!

Yeah but if you don't want to play the game of last qb with the ball wins your d has to make plays here and there.

Like you said for Littleton, definitely more I think. Put a 2nd rounder tender and he will get snatched up fast
