Because I think he'd be a nice fit with this team as OC...
First the hand wringing over changing the offense is overdone. Nowadays all offenses borrow from each other and terminology is not a big deal for an offense provided the OC is a great teacher. Shanny certainly is, and the Rams have the WR talent to run a lot of aggressive slants and to provide strong blocking in his scheme. Under an OC of his ability we would see the talent this offense has.
Second his preference on the OL, which is mobile blockers that can seal and stretch a defensive line, doesn't really matter since the Rams need to reload the OL anyway. And the Rams have a couple pieces who fit nicely in GRob and Saffold who are mobile yet also enormous and extremely powerful run blockers.
Third he always produces a top-notch running attack. Rams have a stable of excellent RBs who will shine in his offense, all of whom are physical and good at one-cut and go type of approach. The running game is also where this offense is most disappointing to Fish, I can say that with absolute certainty and it is why I believe he will make a change at OC.
Lastly the Rams will be drafting a QB. Having Schotty serve as the offensive lead in coaching up a new franchise signal caller would be an enormous mistake. It would be like a redshirt year where he serves as waterboy in terms of what that QB would learn.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... If Fish keeps Schotty he will be fired after next season when the offense stinks yet again. Here's hoping he makes the tough call and brings in an option like Chud, Martz, Shanny, etc or even a collegiate creative mind like Frost to ensure this offense finally starts to put it all together.
