No one needs to encourage negativity in the game threads, it's already there and I'm at the end of my rope with it. This GDT did not need a vent thread, it was already boiling over with venting. Why have two of them? If I was sitting in a bar with some of the people who post in this thread, I'd leave and go somewhere else. Btw many positive members are already avoiding threads like this.

Studs and duds from Rams' embarrassing loss to Eagles
By: Cameron DaSilva

Waking up on Monday morning after a loss is a fairly unfamiliar feeling for the Los Angeles Rams and their fans – especially in 2018. The Rams dropped just their third game of the season on Sunday night, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles despite being 13-point favorites.

It was an ugly 30-23 loss as the Rams once again failed to score 30 points, this time against a depleted Eagles defense that was without several key starters in the secondary. Jared Goff looked like a rookie again, the offensive line struggled to protect him and Todd Gurley was hindered by a knee injury.

All that said, here are our studs and duds from Sunday night’s loss at the Coliseum.

Studs

John Johnson III

Johnson is turning into a star, and Sunday was one of his best games in the NFL. He led the team with 14 tackles and had a spectacular pass breakup in the end zone, saving a touchdown and forcing the Eagles to settle for a field goal. He made a huge third-down stop in the hole by coming up from his safety position, while also tripping up Darren Sproles on third-and-8 with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter.

If not for Johnson’s play on Sunday night, the margin could’ve been even wider than it was. He saved four points with the pass breakup and a pair of first downs with outstanding tackles, making him the most impactful defender in the game for the Rams.

Todd Gurley

His stat line may not have been eye-popping as it typically is, but Gurley showed remarkable toughness. After leaving the game with a knee injury and being deemed questionable to return, Gurley was back on the field after missing only one series. He finished the game with 12 carries for 48 yards and 10 catches for 76 yards, finding the end zone twice on the ground.

Gurley clearly wasn’t himself after injuring his knee, but given the running back situation behind him – only John Kelly was available – he gutted it out and played through the pain. Totaling 124 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns would be a great game for any healthy running back, let alone one who suffered a fairly notable knee injury in the second half.

Duds

Jared Goff

What in the world has happened to Goff? Once a legitimate MVP candidate, Goff has completely fallen apart since the bye week. In his last three games, he has one touchdown and seven interceptions with the worst passer rating (51.3) in the NFL in that span. He was bad against the Bears, but his performance on Sunday night against the Eagles was far worse. At home, Goff threw two picks and didn’t score a single touchdown, struggling against a secondary that fielded names most NFL fans wouldn’t recognize.

This is a huge concern for the Rams moving forward because they’re not going anywhere with Goff playing the way he is. Even Sean McVay admits he has to make better decisions with the football. He’s just not seeing the field well and is making errant throws seemingly once per possession.

JoJo Natson

Let’s get one thing straight: Natson’s fumble did not cost the Rams the game. Did it hurt their chances of winning? Of course, but it wasn’t the primary reason they lost. The fumble happened with just over three minutes to play, and after the defense made a stop, the offense got the ball back with more than a minute remaining. It cost the Rams two minutes, but it didn’t cost them a win.

That being said, coughing up the ball in that situation simply can’t happen. He could have just called for a fair catch and given the offense the ball at the 34-yard line – decent field position, all things considered. Instead, he tried to gain a few extra yards and fumbled the ball without even being touched. There’s simply no excuse for that, and it brought back memories of the Rams’ self-inflicted loss to the Falcons in the playoffs last year.

John Sullivan

With all the attention Aaron Donald has garnered, Fletcher Cox tends to get lost in the shuffle. On Sunday night, he reminded everyone just how good he is – unfortunately at the expense of Sullivan. The veteran was bull-rushed by Cox on several occasions, landing in the lap of Goff more than once.

Cox finished the game with three tackles, one sack, two quarterback hits and a tackle for loss, proving to be too much for Sullivan to handle by himself. The offensive line as a whole really struggled, but Sullivan was the weakest of the bunch.

Defensive line

For the second week in a row, Aaron Donald had no sacks or tackles for loss. He’s seemingly being double-teamed more frequently than he was in the middle of the season, and no one is giving him much help up front, either. Ndamukong Suh hasn’t had a tackle for loss since Week 5 and despite hitting Nick Foles twice, he didn’t have a sack. Michael Brockers is typically strong against the run, but even he struggled against the Eagles’ offensive line.

The defensive line simply has to play better, both against the run and as pass rushers. If Donald can’t generate pressure, someone else has to, considering he’s eating up most of the blocks.

Definitely not a good look. Starting to become more and more clear why the Chiefs were over him.

Well, Marcus Peters is officially trending on twitter now because of his heckler incident. Which has led to several people posting replays of him letting a RB nobody's ever heard run for 5 extra yards and a TD instead of just tackling him. Which might explain why somebody was heckling him to begin with.

Guy is gonna have people heckling him wherever he goes now that everyone knows he has rabbit ears.
Without a doubt!

I agree wholeheartedly flv. Seems like ROD functions better when things are in its own catergories but now it’s starting to spring up in multiple places , I might add capping off the lock date has also helped it spill over. I understand the theory behind the intended uses but I’m not seeing them pan out as planned.

That’s freaked up

Fucking wow. Starting to run out of patience with Peters. Tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but he’s starting to do dumb shit. And I’m less forgiving on him make zero contact on that should not be a TD run. Ffs

I dont really blame Peters for getting fed up.
freak these guys. There was WAY TOO MUCH NOISE all game. You can prepare for that on the road. Catching it at home would tick me off too.
Eagles fans talking mad crap at pro athletes? Nothing new to see here.

Yeah, I have no issue with it. As long as he doesn't put his hands on anyone, do what you gotta do. I'm more pissed at his bullshit antics on the field.

I was going to defend him assuming that he got out of the way instead of getting run over when the guy was almost certain to score, but then, I saw the video. That's fucking inexcusable. Dive at his freaking ankles, dude. That's the least you can do. That bullshit is just so fucked.

All I have to say is that as of the last 3 weeks, we're playing like a team that is going to be One And Done in the playoffs. Terribly scary feeling.

Agreed. Our ONLY hope in the playoffs was our offense racking up a shit load of points to compensate for our bad D. Now the O looks just as bad as the D, this team does not have a chance in the playoffs. We look tired and our opponents have our O figured out.

Too many flaws. DB's as a unit are awful. LB's not up to scratch. Can't stop the run. Not getting pressure on the QB.

Offense looks mentally exhausted and predictable. O-line has regressed. Todd looks less explosive. Goff looks....umm...bad.

We have the workings of a good team. We have a very smart HC and a great core of players, but it has all unwound at the worst moment of the year.

I'm not upset about it; we've had a great year, and it was thrilling when we were on top of the world. The reality is, our Defense is not playoff caliber and our offense (and Goff) has all of a sudden regressed at light speed. So whatever happens in the Playoffs, have fun and don't take it to heart. It's been a fun year.

P.s. Wade clearly has to go.

I don't know if this has already been said but I should have known we were going to lose before the game even started.

We are 0 and whatever whenever Vinobitch refs in the last 10 years or so.

Coincidence? Curse? or ...

I hate to say it, but I agree with you. As Rams fans, I think we need to look at perspective here. Would we rather experience what we're going through now or go back to the Spags, Linehan, Fisher eras? I'll take McVay any day, forever.

We're a young team. We have a lot to learn, and frankly, we need a lot more depth on both sides of the ball. I want to shore up this offensive line and get some key players added to the defense for next year. I wouldn't be too sad if we saw Peters or Suh leave. They've been beyond disappointing.

Wade I think needs more of "his" players, but he of course worries me too.

This week will be interesting. If we win and get back on track in a dominant fashion, my faith will be somewhat restored. I wouldn't sleep on the 49ers either, as much as I hate to admit that. They just beat the Seahawks, who are a scary team heading into the playoffs right now.

What I'd LOVE to see:

-Get two more Ws to end the year 13-3.
-Let Gurley and some OL rest. Let's see what Noteboom can do.
-If Gurley is on the bench, we're putting everything on Goff. He did it against the Chiefs, there's no reason to believe that he's incapable of leading this team. His play has been worrisome, don't get me wrong, but he also hasn't had the protection he's used to--that throws off everything. Regardless, adjustments need to be made during the game and I'm not sure why that hasn't been happening.

Overall, it's nice being in the playoffs two years in a row. I'd love to see us get to the Championship game at the very least for experience's sake. But let's see what happens. Frankly, I'll be in panic mode if we lose to AZ...

It's been a fun ride and I anticipate getting more valuable pieces in the draft. No more high profile FA signings with questionable personalities. It just doesn't work with what McVay's trying to do with this team.
