This is going to be a big test for our team in Dallas. The Boys have a defense that has done a great job vs the pass so far in this young season, making QBs uncomfortable and as a result their scoring and pass defense are both near the top of the league. That unit is going to be a big challenge for us. These guys are going to be licking their chops after seeing the shit show the Rams just put on in SF, with their one dimensional approach predictably falling short as is usual vs their division rivals.

So what is there to do? RUN THE FUCKING BALL.

Dallas is much more pedestrian vs the run. Those guys want the sacks. They don't want to do the work. They are ripe to get run on.

In both our Super Bowl years McVay emerged from his pass induced fugue state in-season and accepted that he has to run the ball. And what ensued were runs of brilliance (no pun intended there) where his team rolled the opposition with balanced attacks that were very hard to stop. Right now we are in the same exact state of being that we were in before. Where teams are going to just crash the LOS and blitz their asses off and watch our median OL struggle to do anything. But that is not necessary if McVay is willing to prioritize the run game again.

Now in both those previous seasons the run game resurgence came with the addition of a physical RB in Anderson and Michel. Both brought elements that were missing from McVay's pass happy injury clappy RB room. I don't think we're in a position to add another one. I'd love to be wrong there but chances are they have to go with what they have. Which means line the big boys up in practice this week and have some fucking padded practices where you focus the run game. Akers looks tentative as shit, but maybe if we can open some damn holes for the dude he will get sorted early and we'll see the guy who started to show a bit the other game. Hendy is running hard and so far hasn't been hurt, which I think has more to do with him wanting a big FA contract but I won't go there. But also we have Brown back and he is capable of adding physicality, well, up until the point where he gets hurt.

I think our RB backfield has a JAG problem. I think these guys just aren't good enough. But either way we do have the pieces to go get a big win vs Dallas and keep growing this offense. And McVay doesn't have a choice here either. If he doesn't do that Stafford is not going to survive this season. And we'll end up with him playing hurt and looking like shit. So prioritize running the fucking ball. Just do it. Please.

I admit, our RBs arent the best, and JAG is probably the best way to describe them. But our lack of a run game is losing in the trenches. Opposing defenses are constantly moving the line of scrimmage backwards making our RB's look extra poor. But I agree, we won't be able to protect Stafford consistently against Dallas pass rush so our key to winning would be per usual, establishing a strong run game. Lord help us!

I know this was sarcasm, but funny that I had a similar thought last night except that 2nd HB was split out WR1 Kupp (since he's the only WR Stafford sees anyway).

I actually think this is the winning formula until we get some guys back.

I agree with you somewhat. I was half serious.
Your line about lining up Kupp as the lone WR isn’t crazy because like you said, he’s the only WR getting targets.

Fuck it.
2TE(Higs & Blanton)
FB/3rd TE(Sko)
1 RB
Kupp

If we can’t protect and open running lanes in that set then what are we doing? Oh yeah…we’re running empty sets on 3rd and short.

I was watching nfl live and they were saying that the 2 high shell is taking over and that to combat that teams are going to play action from under center. I thought the 2 high of Fangio was the reason why McVay had to go away from the play action offense that he brought to the rams.

I think we have the makings of run game dominance behind Jackson/Havenstein. Both those boys can move the pile. So you put your best run blocking depth OL in there as a TE on the right side, call the formation 12 if you want with Higs lined up wide on the other side.

And you fucking mash the right side behind the big boys. Let them fire the fuck off. If Akers gets going I guarantee you Dallas won't be able to handle that shit.

I know there is a Dak thread but might as well put it here.

Jones points to at least another week for Dak.

As the team awaited a medical update on Dak Prescott's right thumb after his Tuesday visit to the doctor, owner Jerry Jones is preaching patience on who his starter will be Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Rams.

On his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones - sorta - answered the two key questions:

1. Is Prescott's surgically repaired thumb sufficiently healed?

"No. Not well enough to play," Jones said. "I know it's better. I know he's gonna go out every day and make progress toward being able to grip the ball. He'll have a big week and he'll be hard on himself getting ready to go.”

Let's look at the bright side. Dak might not play and if he does, he's been out for several weeks.

I'm still ticked off about losing to the whiners but at the end of the day, we're still right in the mix for the NFC West. Our injured players will return and we'll be okay. I trust McVay to right the ship and I know he will.

We were a bit gloomy last season in November (and of course, that's because we hadn't won an SB under McSnead) but now we know that a rough patch can be fixed. It's just too bad that Lance got injured because for whatever reason, the Rams just play badly against crapollo. I don't understand it but at least we beat them when EVERYTHING was on the line.

I'm a long time Rams fan and in the 70's, the Rams were a powerhouse, but they could always found a way to lose in the playoffs. I'm glad we have 2 banners in the stadium. I was worried at one time that I might pass without seeing a super bowl win.

I’m more than a little worried about Stafford’s play heading into this one.. an opportunistic defense.
To be sure..the O has tons of problems.. but Stafford could overcome a lot of them. Hasn’t been that guy yet this season.

Maybe playing in his hometown will spark something.

This may get ugly for us. I just don't see us being able to stop there pass rush and we've all see how Stafford deals with a constant rush.

Its simple for me. Win the turnover battle. We need to start forcing some turnovers and things will look a lot more bright for us.

Win this game and build some momentum.....

There is only one known surefire way to rid oneself of the sour taste of defeat: be beating the snot out of the next opponent! Thus, the Cowpokes have to sacrificed at Sofi for the good of Horns Nation. So it is written; so it shall be done!

I dated an ex Dallas Cowboy cheerleader when I was younger and she was a student at San Jose when I was in California for business.
I also worked with an ex Ram cheerleader a few years ago. But she was older and not in shape, unless round is a shape, anymore.

Regardless of it being played in our stadium, probably gonna have a lot of cowboy fans.
