If it was for a late round pick, absolutely. At worst he's an elite KR and at his best, given some time, he can be a top WR in this league, he has elite potential. Why not?
They aren't giving up on him - just letting him learn. We all knew he was raw coming out - but still if a guy isn't all pro immediately, then he is somehow worthless.
I mean when making up a cap you can afford X amount of dollars per position and I'm thinking we are probably at the limit ,a first round rookie contract is more than the guy he'd replace unless it was TA .

Patterson is only making 1.8M Per, that's only .4M per year more than Quick or Britt, for example. We just picked up Barron who's making twice as much as Patterson without any problem, and we were supposedly already right up against the cap.
Players taken that late in the first round don't really make that much money anymore, they have hardly any cap implications relative to the players they replace.

AND IF we trade or let Austin go because we had Patterson his g jack gets accelerated ,but there is that 5th year option thing, have to admit I didn't check Pattersons salary .
I don't think we need two return guys who aren't very effective WR's, so IMO it's either or
