NFL.com has us taking C Jackson Powers-Johnson in their mock. Will be really interesting to see how this one plays out.

Respectfully disagree. I think big, stud centers are substantially harder to find which is why they almost never come available in FA
Bottom line is Avila IS a center. He's also a G.

Who knows how they really feel about Shelton. Could be sayronara.
They may be confident they can resign Dotson.
They may have other options for Avila's spot.
You never know but I'll bet they do.

This draft has a beast at Center, a few blue chips. There and maybe a red. Can see why it was time for him to go.

I’m still skeptical and ever hopeful the Rams will pick up a legit OC draft pick though..

A beast Center has the ability to take off some of the protection responsibilities of Stafford to focus on coverage, to bull doze some of these DT’s to create 1-4 yard carries to 7 yard plus carries up the heart of the defense.

Playing with the cap tracker, I noticed cutting Allen would be a nice chunk of change off the cap. This doesn't surprise me. What I hope it means Shelton is staying on whether he picks up the option or they re-sign him.

The organization did right by him.
Releasing him early means he’ll have a better chance of finding a new team.

He’ll land on someone’s roster.

Shelton is a pretty good center. Resign him for the right price. We have bigger holes to fill at LT and defense in the draft.

Top 4 centers in the draft projected to be 1) Jackson Powers-Johnson 2) Graham Barton 3) Zack Frazier 4) Sedric Van Pran.

Only JPJ likely goes round 1. I'd rather get an OT first.

If we draft have him and re-sign Dotson, our interior line would be set for some time. I wouldn't complain about that strategy.

They may be harder to come by but they're also definitely less important. I could enumerate again all the football reasons why but at the end of the day, just look at the salaries.

If we traded down a bit in the first round and were able to get JPJ and another 3rd round pick. That would be good IMO. Means we’d have to get a FA Edge though. Can’t count on R2/R3 rookie to fill the other Edge position.

Just couldn't stay healthy and it's tough to trust that he could make it through a season without getting hurt and thus upsetting the continuity on the OL.

However, he was the starter in 21' and helped get us a SB Title.

Nets about a $4.8M savings. Hopefully he catches on somewhere else or considers resigning with us for less.
Listed on OTC as a $4.9M savings, but he gets replaced in the top 51 by a 800k - 900K salary for a 2nd yr guy, so really its about a $4M savings.

If Shelton opts out, they save another $4M - $900k replacement.... so that gets us to about $34.6M overall, but then a need at C.

I think they restructure one of the big 3's contracts to open up another $10-12M or so. With close to $50M, they can do some real damage with some smart signings and maybe one big one, or trade for a high priced guy.

I think the Rams will kick a couple of tires in the first wave, but ultimately decide to resign Dotson at $13-17M/yr.

There will be a lot of big names cut and available in a second wave. I’d look at Demario Davis, Tredavius White, Ogbah, Mack, Kendricks, Justin Simmons, DJ Jones, and Nick Chubb.

Oh and our favorite late hit poster boy is likely a cut coming off a major injury, Dirty Dre. Couldn’t think of a more deserving player.

I don't know what to expect because they always seem to surprise the fanbase. All I know is they will make moves to improve the team. And that many will be upset with them because they didn't do what they thought they should. Clearly though, the only thing that derails these guys is a lot of injuries.

Not a shock. I’ve mocked a C in every draft I’ve done. I truly believe the Rams shore up their OL this draft. A C, OT, and OG will be drafted this year.

Yeah, I see a trade down, maybe 2 along the way, to get a 5th & 6th top 100-120 pick.

Then address those 3 OL positions, along with CB, LB, WR and or DL. Again, all depends on FA regarding which positions they don't need so much.

They will try to add cut players vs FAs in order to preserve comp picks, especially if they lose Dotson. He might net them a 3rd for next year.

As much as I want defense loaded... IF they were to snap up J Powers in round one on top of resigning Dotson we might end up with one of those OL that road grade everyone. Because that dude is a load and so is Avila & Dotson. Now yes I know Dotson isn't dominant in run blocking but that would be a trio that would win in both run and pass. You'd be hard pressed to find a way to beat them consistently with any DL.

So yeah I'd be good with that. Though I think @Loyal would need to lock himself in the head with a jar of vaseline like that time he was ten with a Farrah Fawcett centerfold.

The 2024 draft is a pretty good one for IOL. Rams need to continue to build the offensive line by getting some young cap controlled OL studs like Avila to protect Stafford’s final years. Puka had a great season as did Young and Turner but Avila had a bigger impact than any of the rookies. Without Avila Puka doesn’t have the season he had.

If your QB can handle protections, you want your QB handling protections.

Some of Purdy's worst moments in the Superbowl was cause the center handled the protections and then didn't see the movement after his head went down.

All the greats handled their own protections.
